Booking Through Thursday-Coupling

October 23, 2008 by Darlene

This weeks Booking Through Thursday ask us to…

“Name a favorite literary couple and tell me why they are a favorite. If you cannot choose just one, that is okay too. Name as many as you like–sometimes narrowing down a list can be extremely difficult and painful. Or maybe that’s just me.”

Mine are…and there are more than these I’m sure; I just can’t remember them…

  • Scarlett O’Hara & Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind
  • Ron & Hermoine -they were just too funny pretending they didn’t like each other when they did.
  • Bridget Jones & Mark Darcy who I stole from Shana at Literarily. I’ve always loved these two-they are so funny together.
  • Stephanie Plum and Morelli/Ranger -seems she’s picked Morelli but who knows. Either way it’s a hilarious situation.

So, how about you-any favorite literary couples and why?

My first thought when I saw this was Gatsby and Daisy from The Great Gatsby. You’ve come up with some good ones, too!

bermudaonion, I’m ashamed to say this but I have never read The Great Gatsby. I think that’s probably a bad thing right. lol.

Dar, Gatsby is a pretty quick read. I’ve read it a couple of times, most recently two years ago on vacation. Also saw it on television several weeks ago – Robert Redford played Gatsby in that version (from the 70s, I think).

You’ve done a good job, but I have a different answer.

Rhett and Scarlett always made me really mad. 😛 Well, I guess mostly Scarlett. Bridget and Darcy are one of my favorites as well.

I must really be into “lone wolf”-type characters, because I can’t come up with a single answer to this. Wait! Maybe Temperance Brennan and Andrew Ryan from Kathy Reich’s series. I’ve always liked them.

Oh! I was suppposed to give a reason — I love their sense of humor. They’re cautious about their relationship without being melodramatic, and they don’t whine about each other’s jobs. Although, the end of last year’s installment left me pretty mad at Ryan. 🙂 I’ve just started Devil Bones, so we’ll see if that gets resolved!

Lezlie, that’s a good one. I have not read the books but I faithfully watch the show and love their relationship there.

You know who else from Harry Potter was Ginny and Harry. I read it on someone else’s blog. It was so cute how Ginny had such a huge crush on him forever. lol.

I had Scarlett and Rhett, Ron and Hermione as well as Harry and Ginny on mine. I’m in the minority in that I didn’t like the Bridget Jones books…

I was wondering what book Ron & Hermione were from, but after reading the comments, I'm thinking it's Harry Potter – a book/books I’ve yet to read.

Ron & Hermione! I hadn't thought of that one, but I agree! I remember early on thinking they'd get together, but my husband was always pulling for Harry & Hermione. I told him if he read the books, he'd know. LOL

I might have already asked you this, but have you read Rhett Butler’s People? I really enjoyed it, even though some people didn’t appreciate the little differences in writing and characterizations from GWTW. What I liked about it is that the time goes beyond GWTW, so you get more of what really happened between Rhett and Scarlett after the ending of GWTW.

Holly, it might have been your post that I noticed Harry and Ginny. I hadn’t thought of them before.

Shana, you’ve never read Harry Potter? Wow, I would have thought you would have.

Anna, I had never thought of Harry and Hermione. They just always seemed brother and sister to me but I was rooting for Harry and Ginny in later years.

Laura, I haven’t read Rhett Butler’s People but I do have it and want to read it. Did you ever read Scarlett? I also have that but haven’t read it yet.

Naida, I had forgotten Bridget and Mark too yet they are so good together. This makes me want to watch the movies again.

Madelaine, I was the same although I knew right off the bat Scarlett and Rhett.
