Books, Flowers and a Quiet Day

October 4, 2008 by Darlene

Hi everyone, it’s a quiet day for me. I’m relaxing with the dog and a book. I had thought about grooming the dog and doing laundry but it’s gloomy and cool outside so I gave up on that idea. Staying warm and cozy appealed to me much more.

I’m reading and am completely hooked on The Triumph of Deborah. What a great novel. I should have the review up tomorrow because I can’t seem to put it down for long.

The wind is really blowing here today so I thought I should go and pick some of our sweet peas. I thought I’d share a picture of them with you all. I only wish I could somehow send the wonderful smell of them along to you also.

So, is anyone up to anything exciting today? I sure hope you’re all having a great weekend!

    Dar,

What gorgeous flowers…love the colors! I bet they smell wonderful. Enjoy your day. Those kind of days are the best, relaxing and reading a great book that you can’t put down. I’m looking forward to reading your review.

It’s been a pretty quiet day for me as well. I’ve been trying to work on some catch up blogging (uploading pictures from recent trips) and now I hope to catch up some on my google reader. Your flowers are beautiful! And I can’t wait to hear what you think of the book–I’ve been seeing it around a lot lately.

I have that book too!! I need to review it this month 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your pretty flowers. I do wish I could smell them too.’

Tonight I get to go to my book club meeting 🙂 We go out to dinner and then come to my house to discuss the book. We all read The Hiding Place together. We’ll see what everyone thought.

Just getting Halloween reviews done over here!

I hope you and Buddy stayed warm and cozy today.

I loved The Triumph of Deborah. Now I want to read her other two books.

I’m finally ready to settle in with my book now that the kids are in bed, the house is clean, the dog and cats are fed.

My day has turned out much like yours. I do wish it would rain outside instead of offering the threat of doing so. I love a good rainy Saturday.

Sounds like a perfect day! And that book looks really good. I spent the day with Max on the agility course, but you knew that. 🙂 I’m going to be posting our results in a couple of minutes. Short version: He was fabulous!

    Hello there Dar…
Worked on another hobby today.. but had a relaxing later part of the day.. a little movie and knitting.

The Sweet Peas are so beautiful they look fake! I love them.. they look like a second infusion of spring. Enjoy the color while you can.

My grandmother always grew sweet peas on the side of her garage and they were my favorites. I swear, I can smell them still!

Thanks for that memory! Hope you enjoyed your cozy day of reading! Sometimes, I look forward to lousy weather just so I’ll have an excuse to do that!

Picking my outside flowers and bringing them inside is something I just never do. I wish I’d remember because yours look so pretty. Enjoy your lazy day!

Those flowers are so pretty. It was rainy yesterday and I loved it. This morning the sun is shining once again so I think the rain has taken a hike.

Bonnie, I can’t agree more. Not much got done but I sure enjoyed the book.

Trish, I’ve got to pop over and see if you have any pics up. I hope you got caught up a bit. That google reader can be overwhelming.

Bethany, that sounds like so much fun. A face to face group is nice. Hope you had fun. I’ll pop over and see if you blogged about it.

Thanks Breeni, I’m on my way to see what Halloween treats you have for me today.

I have to go back to your review now Shana. I just starred the ones I found. I never like to read them until I’m done the book myself. I hope you had a relaxing evening with your book.

Literary Feline, you should have been here-it finally started raining. Today, however, it’s only pretending to. I’d like some sunshine cause it’s pretty cold out there.

Lezlie, I’m so glad it went well. I’ll be heading over to read about it soon. The book was great. My review is up now.

Mary, I’m glad the book got there finally 🙂

Toni, sounds like a nice night. I put those sweet peas by the bed last night-it was like a piece of heaven.

Linda, your welcome for the memory. We have them on the side of the house this year and they love it. They’ll be going there again next year for sure.

    Thanks Nymeth 🙂

Bree, I have the habit of forgetting to bring the flowers in also but at this time of the year I’m holding onto every last piece of summer I can so they came in.

Ti, you must have sent the rain my way. It started a bit last night-really light-it was actually really nice but today is just gloomy and wanting to rain.

Thanks Tracy 🙂 I’m glad everyone enjoyed my little piece of summer left over still.

It will be on my other blog, but when it’s all finished I’ll make a little annoucement. I got all the pictures uploaded (from my trip to Agentina), now I just have to write the narrative.

    Beautiful! What wonderful colors!

I made a concentrated effort to cut and bring in flowers from our yard this summer. I have one rose bush that’s still giving me pretty pink tea roses; you’ve inspired me to put some in a vase. Thanks!

Gloomy days are the best for reading! So, tell me about your dog.

I had a great weekend. 🙂 I did read Fri or Sat, but spent it watching movies.

Kristen, thanks for popping by. Reading takes priority over everythng-that’s why things that need to get done, don’t. lol.

Dawn, thank you. I hope you do cut some flowers and bring them in-they sure do cheer a person up at the end of season, that’s for sure.

J.Kaye, I’m glad you had a great weekend. OMG-do you really want to ask about my dog-I could talk about him forever. lol. He’s a pomeranian poodle-although not really small-he’s 20 lbs. He’s 6 yrs old and can be such a terror. He’s a handful and a half and he keeps me on my toes the majority of the time. But I love him more than anything-he’s a sweet, loveable guy except for when he’s barking and snarling like a mini rotweiler at people or the mailperson. lol.

What a pretty picture! It sounds as though you had a delightful and wonderful day. I love those gloomy chilly days when there is nothing to do but cuddle up on the couch with a cozy blanket and a great book!

Thanks April, those really are the best kind of days, aren’t they. We’re kind of having another one today-the wind is blowing so hard you can’t even stay on your feet outside. lol.
