Today’s noontime chat is here as well as at J. Kaye’s Book Blog. Make sure to head over there and see J. Kaye’s final thoughts on the book.
As you can probably tell from the discussions to this point I am loving the book. I’ve still got about 100 pages to go. I had planned to have it finished today but family matters came up (pops is still in the hospital) and I didn’t make my goal. However, there will be a full review of the book up sometime this weekend as soon as I’ve completed it.
Now, on to final thoughts. I am totally enjoying the book. I love the story and the writing. Unlike J. Kaye, I was hooked from the very beginning on the story and I love the history. J. Kaye brought up an interesting point and that is that maybe people who love historical fiction view the book diffferently and I think that’s probably true. For me, the historical aspect of the book is enhanced by the fictional story surrounding it.
My favorite character remains to be Kate. She’s now at Powder Mote being hidden by Francis and his father but she’s been seen there and now I’m beside myself wanting to get back to the story and see what’s going to happen. I’m also partial to Francis and am rooting for him and Kate-another aspect of the novel that I’ve enjoyed and I can’t wait to see what transpires at the end for the two of them, if anything.
Stay tuned for my full review this weekend. Otherwise, if you’ve missed any of the chats along the way, here they are:
Day 1 here at J. Kaye’s Book Blog
Day 2 here at Peeking Between the Pages
Day 3 here at J. Kaye’s Book Blog
Day 4 here at Peeking Between the Pages
Day 5 here at J. Kaye’s Book Blog and the above post.
Thanks to all who joined us. I wish J. Kaye would have taken as much pleasure from the book that I am but you know that’s what makes this blogging business great-we all have different opinions and likes and dislikes when it comes to books and that’s what makes it so awesome to have discussions like this.
It’s interesting to see a discussion from both sides though, rather than both people gushing or not. I plan on reading through the whole series of posts once I read the book. I didn’t want to get any ideas in my head first. 🙂
Happy Halloween, and I hope all is well!
Lezlie
Lezlie, I agree. I don’t blame you for not reading the posts until you’ve read the book. I’m anxious to see what you’ll think of it.
I am really excited to read this book. I also like the concept of what you two have done.
Jennifer, this was a lot of fun to do. We should try something like this in our book selections on our page. Have each person talk about a section and the rest of us comment. What do you think? Might be fun and spur more discussion than waiting to be done.
Interesting! I like the 2-pewrson format! Gives a more comprehensive view of the book.
Linda, I agree and it’s fun too. It’s probably more interesting this way because we feel differently about the book. People get a view both ways.
Cross-posted on J Kaye’s Book Blog.
I didn’t read it, but J Kaye told me about parts of it, and she made it sound interesting, but I do read history books.
I think it is great that people can ‘chat’ about a subject even though they have different opinions – it makes the points of view fuller instead of one-sided, and you get a better understanding of your opinion.
Keep up the good work!
I have been reading about this 🙂
I actually like it too!
Sorry I didn’t make it by here on Friday. My computer was being moved and I didn’t get back online until late.
I think it’s fantastic you connected to the characters in this book. I think for fans of HF, this is the perfect book.
Considering your week, I am surprised that you had time to read at all.
Hey Steve, thanks for popping in. I absolutely agree. That’s what I loved about the chat. For me I’m loving the book and yet other may not. I too really enjoy the history aspect and in thinking a lot about it, I think that’s what may make the difference. I’ve also read other history books so for me I’m reading a lot already familiar to me which makes it even more interesting. I had a lot of fun with J. Kaye doing this and I’m anxious to do more noontime chats in the future.
Veens, glad you’ve been reading along 🙂
J. Kaye, I agree with you. Those who like historical fiction should really enjoy the book. Unfortunately I had planned to finish it yesterday but I’m just exhausted so I didn’t. Hopefully today after grooming the dog. Thanks so much for a wonderful chat J. Kaye. I can’t wait for the next one.
