Testimony Giveaway

October 23, 2008 by Darlene

Hey everybody, I just finished reading Testimony and I did enjoy it. It’s a book that makes you ask many questions. You can read my review of it here.

Miriam with Hachette Books was generous enough to offer to send a copy of Testimony to one lucky reader. Isn’t that awesome!!!

Here are the rules:

  • comment on this post for one entry
  • for two entries share with me whether you like books that really make you question things-books that may deal with difficult subject matter but are really important and a good book at the same time. Have you read any like that lately?
  • three entries if you spread the word and blog about this giveway

This contest is open to US and Canadian residents only. I will draw for a winner on Thursday, October 30.

I have just finished Tim O’Brien’s “THE THINGS THEY CARRIED”. It is a book about Vietnam, however not the war as much as the relationshp between the soldiers. It is one of the best and heartwarming books I have read this year.

I just wanted to stop by and let you know I am adding your contest to my contest element on the sidebar…no need to enter me in this contest…

I love books that post questions for the reader and that deal with difficult subject matter; I think those books are the best because they have you exercising your brain and because they often stick with you long after you’ve read them.

I just read an older book, The Bitch Posse, by Martha O’Connor that kind of had the same premises. One act as teenagers had spiraled three women’s lives out of control, even as adults. It was interesting to read, but at times difficult to get through just because of the subject matter.

Dar, please enter me in this book giveaway! I love Anita Shreve’s books. In answer to your question, I do love a book that makes me question. I haven’t lately read a book that makes me question. I have read certain books over the years that do, one I read over the summer was The Richest Season by Mary Ann McFadden. It was a great book! I just recently met the author, just this past Monday as a matter of fact. She is great!

I much prefer to read books as a relaxing period and go with flow and try not to think too hard. When I do read books that deal with difficult subject matter, I usually like it. I love Sarah Dessen’s writing if you’re going into YA authors. She has dealt with sexual assault, abuse, abandonment, and other subjects and has written them beautifully.

It really depends on my mood…sometimes I want something simple, no thought after a long day. Somedays, after speaking toddlerese all day, I want something to challenge my mind, and spirit.

Thanks for the giveaway. I would love to be entered.

In general, I tend to read light books that don’t make me think too hard. But, I definitely like a book with some meat once in a while.

Yes, I like my novels to go to a deeper level on some important issue. I don’t read to escape, I read to experience things. Psychiatric problems interest me very much. I recently read The Whalestoe Letters by Mark Z. Danielewski, very powerful. Please enter me, I have read five of Anita Shreve’s books and liked them all. Thank you

Please enter me — I’ve never read any of her books, but this one looks like a good one to start with. Thanks for the chance!
I do like a book that makes me think (but not every time — I might hurt myself!). I like novels that give me a new perspective on historical events, especially if I gain a better understanding of a point of view in opposition to my own. Right now I am reading THE SAFETY OF SECRETS by Delaune Michel which deals with issues of trust, betrayal, family, loyalty, and forgiveness. So far, I’m not liking the characters, but I’m learning to forgive them, and I think that maybe that’s where the whole story is going. (I keep hearing that Don Henley song in my head.)

I keep hearing about this book and how good it is. I have read some of her other books and she comes up with some unusual situations. I like different books. Sometimes I need something that’s just silly but will make me laugh out loud and other times I like a deeper read. I’ve read some recently about the Japanese internment camps during WWII. Reading about what we did to our own citizens made me angry.

Please enter me in your contest. I will list it on my blog. Thanks for your offer!

I would love to win this as I’ve heard so much about it. I do like to read books that make me question things. Haven’t read any lately and don’t that often, but every now and then it’s a good change.

I’d love to win this one!! To answer your question, I love to read books that make me think. Jodi Picoult is another one that makes you think about difficult subject matter. Her book Nineteen Minutes was about school shootings. That was a hard one to read.
    Thanks for hosting this contest!!

I love Anita Shreve’s books so please enter me in a chance to win! Another book that I think deals with a difficult subject was Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. It makes you realize that the shooter was a real person with feelings and came from a regular family.

Of all the Anita Shreve books I’ve read so far, “Resistance” and “The Weight of Water” were my favourites. I’d love to win and read “Testimony”, please enter me into the draw, thanks. 🙂

I just finished and posted my review of Night by Elie Wiesel. It was one of the most disturbing books I’ve ever had the “pleasure” of reading!
