I’m really excited to say that this week I’ll be chatting about The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker with my good friend Toni from A Circle of Books. Most probably don’t know but Toni and I met 5 and a half years ago now through an online book club called The PageTurners. We are now a close group of women who’ve grown from a book club into a family. So, of course I’m really excited to be reading and chatting about this book with Toni.
This books is about Truly Plaice who was unfortunately born to be a giant from what I’m gathering so far. At the time she was born in the 50’s this was defintitely not something people were used to seeing at all and she is tormented and ridiculed. She has already found a place in my heart and I’m anxious to see where else the book takes her. The first part that we’ve read is odd to me because it’s told from Truly’s perspective and that includes from the time of a baby-it’s an interesting way the author has chosen to tell it and I like it-it’s intriguing.
We’ve also learned some about the Morgan doctors, the witches or who people thought were witches, and a bit about the county Aberdeen and its people. So far to me the whole county sounds like a different bunch of people.
This novel captured my attention from the beginning. I love when I run across a book like that. I believe Toni and I are in for a treat with this novel. It will be released by Hachette on January 8, 2009 so many thanks go to Miriam for the ARC of this book.
Make sure to head over to A Circle of Books to see what Toni thinks of this first part of the novel and tune in tomorrow as Toni and I venture into the next section of the book and see where the adventure takes us. Feel free to comment if you’ve read the book or even if you haven’t.
Hi Dar… I like how you very nicely say the town is full of “different” people. So true, and very “classic” small town folk. I can’t wait to find out where the book is going.
I have this and get to read it soon, I am a little book overwhelmed at the time 🙂
Toni, that’s true-small town folk. They definitely have their ways. I’d love to live in a small town someday…
Bethany, I read your post today but haven’t had a chance to comment yet. Yes I’m a bit overwhelmed too. I’m just going to take it one book at a time and try not to stress anymore.
I’m looking forward to all the reviews of this book. I just couldn’t read it right now – life getting in the way, the way it does sometimes…
This book looks and sounds so good. Can’t wait to see what y’all think of it.
Looking forward to the discussion.
Mary, yes life does do that as I well know. I think it’s something you’d like. My copy is your copy when I’m done.
Kathy, it is good. I need to do some heavy duty reading here before Toni and I chat tonight though. lol.
Ti—hi:)
this sounds interesting.
I love it when a book grabs my attention from the beginning too.

Naida, I think I may have already said this but I think you’d like this book. It really is quite good. I really need to get back to it today.
Now that I’m halfway through the book (and loving it!), I’m catching up on your bookchats last week. The idea of the witch doctors is really interesting–and now that Truly has moved into Bob bob’s house and Tabitha’s quilt keeps coming into the picture I’m really curious to see what will happen!
The baby narration was a little strange for me as well, but it worked.
Trish, I love the parts on the witch doctors. It’s funny how nobody ever wanted to talk about them and yet when there was a problem that’s where they went. The whole concept of herbs and things like that being made into remedies is just fascinating to me.
