Wicked is the fifth installement in the Pretty Little Liars YA series written by Sara Shepard. I’ve really enjoyed the series and this latest book was just as good to me as the first ones were. It’s almost like visting someone you know and feeling the comfort of that when you read another book in a series that you follow.
This one finds Spencer, Hannah, Aria and Emily still trying to hold onto their sanity trying to figure out who ‘A’ is. In the last novel we had, or so we thought, had found out who ‘A’ was but no, we were mistaken. In this installment, Spencer is struggling with who she is-is she a Hastings or not? Her parents are ignoring her and her life seems to be in a shambles. Hannah still has major issues with her appearance and maintaining ‘skininess’. She seems a really shallow character and yet there is so much more to her. Aria I’ve always liked. She’s different from the other girls in that she pretty much goes her own way and isn’t one to conform. This novel finds her struggling again with her attraction to older men and finding herself in a heap of trouble because of it. Finally there is Emily who again really has no idea about her sexuality. She seems even more confused than ever.
I think this series is really great for young adult women as it covers a lot of issues that they may face and remains fun while doing it. Throwing in a little mystery and suspense makes the stories even better. I was left once again not knowing who ‘A’ is and I’ll have to wait for the sixth book to find out-hopefully. The author will probably just fool me into thinking I know what I really don’t.

This book also qualifies for a few of my challenges: The Library Challenge and Read 100+ Books
Sounds like a good series Dar. I sure know what you mean when you are reading a sequel and it is like “going home.” I have never been a big sequel reader but I am becoming more fond of this all the time. I am currently reading Knit Two and it is like “yes… I know these ladies..”
Glad you have the 6th book to look forward too.
PS… I can NOT believe how organized your reading challenges are. You are EXCEEDINGLY organized Dar and did a great job with your challenges.
Did I miss the age range that you would recommend this for?
I saw these books and the covers really intrigued me, now I may have to read them!!!
Great review!
my mom loves to read. she’s never heard of these books before but your review and the cover of the book sparked her interest. she really likes the shopaholic series – i dont know if you read them; shes reading a book by that author (sophie kinsella) that is not part of the series but is enjoying it. she said she plans to pick up pretty little liars next!
Buddy is AWESOME! Want to squeeze him!
Woo-hoo! Welcome back!
And that looks like a Barbie Doll on the cover of the book!
Look at all these posts … great to see you back at it, Dar!
My niece would probably like the Pretty Little Liars series.
Thanks for posting my blog giveaways Dar! I hope that your eye is feeling better and healing well.
Hey Dar, Haven’t heard from you lately. Wanted to make sure you weren’t all frozen up!
With the start of a New Year, I’ve signed up for a few reading challenges. Looking forward to it.

I’ll be recommending this one to my students. Thanks!
This does sound like a great series. I agree, it can be like re-visiting someone you know when returning to great books in a series.
