Giveaway of The School of Essential Ingredients

January 14, 2009 by Darlene

Time for another giveaway. I’m giving away my gently read arc of The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister. This was such a good book that I really enjoyed and was sad to see end-it was one of those books for me that could have continued on for another couple hundred pages. You can read my review of it here.

The rules are as follows:

  • for 1 entry leave me a comment(be sure to leave an email address if you don’t have a blog so I have a way to contact you or you won’t be entered)
  • for 2 entries tell me about a favorite smell that takes you back to somewhere good in your memory
  • for 3 entries subscribe to my blog (tell me if you already are and you’ll get an extra entry)

I’m leaving this giveaway open worldwide as I have a few readers who wouldn’t be able to enter otherwise. I will draw for a winner on Saturday, January 24. Good luck everyone!

I’ve wanted to read this Dar. Please enter me! Smells? Wow, there are so many. Does it have to be food related? LOL! When I smell horses, I think of my grandparents and spending time on their ranch. Burning wood takes me back to my dad and our camping trips.

I’m already a subscriber. Actually, I might even be a follower. I should check!

The smell that takes me back… roasted turkey is a fave but so is popcorn made in an old fashioned popcorn cart. Makes me think of the fair.

Sounds like a delicious read. I loved your review.

Hmmm, you’re already in my reader. A smell that takes me back? Oh, wow, that’s hard. I’d say that fresh smell after a spring rain. Usually, it smells moldy and damp, here, but on those very rare occasions when there’s a fresh smell after rain, it reminds me of how much I loved curling up during a thunderstorm in Oklahoma.

The scent of frangipani always reminds me of a holiday I went on to Bali four years ago. Ah, the tropics! I even bought a potted frangipani because I love the fragrance and all it evokes, but its growth is rather stunted here in Tassie.

One of my favorite smells is Play-Doh! Whenever I smell it I can distinctly remember my little blue table I sat at as a kid while creating with my Play-Doh. Now that I’m a teacher I find ways to incorporate Play-Doh into some of my lessons…the smell is a bonus.

One of my favorite smells is watermelon hubba-bubba. I don’t chew gum, but when I was expecting my first baby I could smell an unopened package from about 10 feet away. I just couldn’t get enough of the smell. So now when I smell it it takes me back to the joys and excitements of that first pregnancy.

(I’d spent all day doing laundry- my dad used Tide- and then when I got to work and smelled the boy’s shirt when he was standing next to me, he smelled exactly the same as the detergent we used at home, and he smelled so good! LOL Who knew that swooning could be done to the scent of laundry detergent…Even now, the scent takes me back…)

My favorite smell has to be, and don’t think I’m crazy, but it’s the of a cow field. It reminds me of these trips we used to take in middle school to an old, run down graveyard. It was on top of a ridge and the only way to get there was to duck under the electric fence and walk through the cow field. We would spend the day there cleaning up, setting up the headstones, mapping, putting up a fence, the memories are so good, they make manure pleasant!
