Library Loot hosted by Eva and Alessandra asks us to list what we brought home from the library this week. I got a whole bunch. Not sure what I plan on doing with them all but I have them. lol. On a side note, all those I had listed last time went back to the library today. Sheeesh, I plan on making a concentrated effort to read at least one of these…
- Bubbles Unbound by Sarah Strohmeyer (audio version)
- 3 Willows by Ann Brashares (I loved Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants—I hope this one will be just as good)
- A Is For Alibi by Sue Grafton (I’ve wanted to read this series forever)
- The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith (I read this years ago but I’d like to get back to the series again)
- Scot on the Rocks by Brenda Janowitz (Well I’ve seen so many good reviews of this—I figure I should read it)
How about you—have you brought home any goodies from the library this week? Play along.
I really liked the first couple Ladies’ Detetive Agency book. I think I read too many back to back though and got a little bored, so I stopped. I need to get back to them someday, too.
“A is for Alibi” is the only one I know. I like Grafton´s series very much. They are not scary thrillers but rather cosy whodunnits, and after some time the main character, Kinsey, feels like an old friend.
Dorte is spot on with the Grafton series. It is comfy and reliable, like your old pair of sweats you wear around the house! I have read them all. I am scared Ms. Grafton will die before she gets to Z…
I got two very exciting books from the library this week. One is called “The True Story of Hansel and Gretel” by Louise Murphy. I got it on recommendation for my WWII reading challenge. I also received via interlibrary loan “Death in Breslau” by Marek Krajewski. This is a hot crime series in Poland, and my husband is reading them in Polish. They have only translated this one book of the series. It is not easy to find…my library had to get it from Bremerton, Washington! I can’t read fast enough!
And that’s the reason I hesitate to do this meme. I get a lot of books from the library, but even before I realize it, the 3 weeks are up and its time to return many unread.. I did get Scot on the Rocks from the library this week as well!:) I brought a couple of heavy books to read, so i picked that up for a little comic relief..:)
My book club has been reading the No. 1 Ladies-we usually read one of these a year. I can see how they would get boring, like Lezlie said, if you read too many in a row. Reading one of these a year I have found that we are always looking forward to the next one and we just love them! I think In the Company of Cheerful Ladies is probably our favorite so far.
Scot on the Rocks sound fun too!
The Grafton series is amazing. I LOVE Kinsey Millhone – she may be my favorite protagonist. I am on F and they have all been good.
I have two books out right now…The Bone People and The Bookseller of Kabul (which is overdue). I was supposed to read them for tomorrow’s book group meeting but never even opened them!
great books dar, I loved The first two sisterhood books and do want to read the rest. I saw that she had the other book out, I wonder if its good?

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Scots on the Rocks
Dar, I read Bubbles Unbound last year and enjoyed it. Let me know how the audio version is!
It sounds as though you got some goodies! I’ve wanted read the Bubbles series for forever!
I must be one of the only people in the world who HATED the Ladies Detective Agency series. Well, hated is probably too strong. I just really couldn’t get into it at all. I like mysteries/thrillers, though, so I’ve liked some of the Grafton books, just not enough to keep reading them. Love Kellerman (both of them, now that I think about it), and have just come across a new author, Geoffrey Gluckman, who wrote a book I just finished, “Deadly Exchange.” Great thriller and a real page-turner (which is really what I require in a book these days!) Espionage, conspiracy, even romance, — it’s a thought-provoking spy novel with many shades of gray. I recommend it. And now I’m off to my new book, a journalist series, by Jan Brognan.
Scot on the Rocks was fun! I have Jack with a Twist to finish… & Sue Grafton's on my list of authors to check out, but I don't know if I can take on another long line of books like hers, after 17 Stephanie Plum novels almost back-to-back! Maybe next month… =)
My current library list includes Pretties, Specials, and Extras by Scott Westerfeld; Testimony by Anita Shreve; and Extreme Measures by Vince Flynn. Yeah, I know, pretty light for me… =P
Happy reading!
I loved The No 1 Ladies Detective agency. i lent it to a friend and never got it back. Keep meaning to buy the set.
I’ve been meaning to read Grafton and Mcall-Smith’s series for awhile now. I hope you enjoy both and I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts!
I only know the ALEXANDER McCALL novels, not all of them. HBO sattelite/cable channels will start I think in April a new series based on those novels, should be fun.
Do you receive these channels?
Good group! I Bubbles was fun to read and I liked Grafton (but only made it up to I). I’ve been meaning to read Janowitz. I never did take to McCall, but I’m going to try the HBO series.
I love the alphabet series by Sue Grafton!! I’m on I right now.
I haven’t read the Sue Grafton series, I’ll have to keep them in mind.
I love Alexander McCall Smith’s Sunday Philosophy Club books, but I haven’t read the detective agency books yet.
I hope you enjoy your books! (And I can totally relate to taking back a load of unread books to the library.)
Lezlie, Jo-Jo—I read the First Detectives first one so many years ago for my book club that I want to reread it. I think sometimes I start a series and get hooked and keep reading them and that's when I tire of them. Maybe if I pace myself it will work much better.
Sandy & Dorte, I love books that make me feel as though I'm visiting an old friend. I think I'll really like the Grafton series. Sandy, I've heard about the Hansel & Gretel book somewhere-I remember being very interested in it. I'll be watching for your review of it.
Ramya, our library now has extended the period you can have things out for unless there are holds on it. It ends up being 9 weeks—you'd think I should be able to get at least one of them done in that time. lol.
Erika, Sam, Kristina— it seems a lot of people really like the Grafton series. I guess that's why she's written so many of them.
Ti, that's too bad. I really enjoyed The Bookseller of Kabul. I had hoped you'd get around to that one.
Naida, are you referring to 3 Willows or her other one called The Last Summer or something like that? I have that one too but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
Cheryl, I've heard Scot on the Rocks is good. I sure hope I can get to it.
Mary, the audio version of Bubbles is pretty amusing so far. I'm enjoying it. I have the feeling I would have liked the books.
April I hadn't even heard of the Bubble series. Janel from Janel's Jumble had mentioned a book written by the same author and by chance there was this audio on the shelf so of course it came home with me.
Liz, I have one of Kellerman's books to get to—Bones.
Drey-lol—you'd better not get started on Grafton or we'll have another run like the Plum series is right. That's too funny.
Scrap Girl, that's why I'm getting all these books at the library. Better than buying a series and having yet more books on the shelf.
Madeleine & Beth, we do get HBO but it's extra to pay for and for me it's just not worth it. For the most part I have my favorite shows and that's enough. The rest of the time I'd rather read.
I just put mine up. I’ve been meaning to read the Bubbles books but I haven’t gotten around to it.
I only saw the movies, but I really liked the first Sisterhood one. 🙂
I really really want 3 Willows. I think it’s such a cute idea.
