Life Update: Been Sick

February 16, 2009 by Darlene

Hi everyone, I’ve been really hit hard by the flu. The last three days have been spent in bed without even the energy to get up for anything. You know the kind—bronchitis with a really bad headcold to top it off. Something I’ve not shared on this blog I don’t believe is that I have rheumatoid arthritis (an auto-immune disease that affects your joints); so when I get hit by a flu like this it also affects every joint I have making it extremely painful for me to move around and sapping even more of my energy. I think I’m on the mend now though. I feel partially human this morning so I’m thinking that’s got to be a good thing right???

Oh yeh, on another note—I went back to the eye doctor for my eye that I hurt after Christmas (remember the whole cut cornea incident). Turns out it’s still bothering me because it’s not healing properly. I’ll be going back later this week to have my cornea scraped to take down the scar so it’ll start to heal. Let me tell you that I’m more than nervous about this so if anyone has ever had a cornea scraped and can tell me that it’s not so bad I’ll be eternally grateful. For now, I’m ready to run the other way. Anything near my eyes makes me extremely nervous-always has.

I am very behind on my blog stuff. I’ve got to draw for a winner of The Italian Lover first thing here this morning. Then I must apologize once again to Marcia at The Printed Page for not getting my wrap up done on Friday of Sarah’s Key. I absolutely hate letting people down like that. So, that is also on the agenda for this morning.

Unfortunately for me I didn’t get any reading done. I couldn’t even do that with the bad headache I had. On a good note, in my mail today I saw that I won Signora da Vinci from Julie over at Booking Mama. I must admit that went a long way to cheering me up this morning. I really, really wanted that book. Thanks again Julie!

So, that’s all for now. I’m going to get started on trying to get everything back together here and running smoothly again. I’m feeling a tad overwhelmed at this point but I’m sure with the return of some of my energy I’ll get things under control.

Hope you all have an awesome week!

Sorry to hear you’ve been so under the weather and I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend. I haven’t had my cornea scraped, but I’m sure they numb it.

I’m sorry you haven’t been well. I know how you feel with the RA though. I have it as well along with Lupus and a simple cold can even cause complications. I DO hope you feel better soon.

I have not had eye surgery so I have no words of wisdom on your upcoming procedure but I do hope it goes smoothly and that you heal quickly.

Oh, so sorry you’ve been sick. I didn’t know you have rheumatoid arthritis, but I do know about auto-immune diseases and I feel for you. It’s so strange that the body can attack itself in that way, isn’t it? I’ll pray about your cornea work. I’ve never heard of having a cornea scraped, so I’m no help. Hope you feel better, soon!!

    Sorry you’ve been sick. 🙁

Hamburger had his eye drilled once. (!) Creeped me out to no end, but he was fine and it didn’t take long at all.

    Get better soon!!!

Sorry you’ve been under the weather — I had a flu-like sickness (as did the rest of my family, though not as bad as I did). It was absolutely no fun — all I could do was sit/lay around and watch TV — wasn’t able to do much reading. I enjoy your blog!

Dar, so sorry to hear you’ve been ill. I hope you feel much better very quickly. And I hope the eye issues will be taken care of easily and painlessly. I’ll keep you in my thoughts.

Congrats on the book win. I’ll watch for a review. Sounds like something I’d like.

Dar, sounds pretty yukky – not to even be able to read! The eye thing sounds weird, but the doctors deal with those situations all the time. Congrats on the book win — I wanted that one, too! Sending good thoughts for your full recovery!

did they really use the word “scrape”!? you’d think they’d use something more pleasant like “cornea altering” that wouldn’t make you as scared!!

hope buddy is taking good care of you!!

Dar, that nasty flu stuff is running rampant down here in Orlando, and I know how it feels. You just want to crawl on hands and knees to the woods and die peacefully. On the eye note, awhile back I had Lasik surgery on both of my eyes. My right one has always been dry, and in the healing process, it got so dry that blinking caused my eyelid to scrape my cornea. Talk about slipping quickly into a depression (especially for someone who reads all the time). I was assured that the cornea heals very quickly, and it did. I just had to use alot of drops and be patient. I’m sure everyone out there feels your pain, and understands. No pressure on this end!

So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well, this time of year is terrible for bronchial viruses. Hopefully you’ll be feeling better soon. And I wouldn’t worry too much about the cornea scrape, a friend had to have that done and said it was painless and quite quickly done, in her case the Dr. put a numbing drop in the eye first so all she felt was a little bit of pressure. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do great 🙂

The cornea scraping sounds scary but those eye procedures usually SOUND worse than they really are!
