Cover Attraction is being hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. I’m not sure she intended it that way-lol-but I liked the idea so much that I wanted to do it too and I’ve seen several others taking up the idea. I think it’s a great way to see some new titles out there or even some great book covers that I normally wouldn’t have gotten to see.
My pick for this week is a book called A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenberg. It was released on March 3, 2009. Here’s a bit about it from Amazon.com…
- When Molly Wizenberg’s father died of cancer, everyone told her to go easy on herself, to hold off on making any major decisions for a while. But when she tried going back to her apartment in Seattle and returning to graduate school, she knew it wasn’t possible to resume life as though nothing had happened. So she went to Paris, a city that held vivid memories of a childhood trip with her father, of early morning walks on the cobbled streets of the Latin Quarter and the taste of her first pain au chocolat. She was supposed to be doing research for her dissertation, but more often, she found herself peering through the windows of chocolate shops, trekking across town to try a new pâtisserie, or tasting cheeses at outdoor markets, until one evening when she sat in the Luxembourg Gardens reading cookbooks until it was too dark to see, she realized that her heart was not in her studies but in the kitchen.
At first, it wasn’t clear where this epiphany might lead. Like her long letters home describing the details of every meal and market, Molly’s blog Orangette started out merely as a pleasant pastime. But it wasn’t long before her writing and recipes developed an international following. Every week, devoted readers logged on to find out what Molly was cooking, eating, reading, and thinking, and it seemed she had finally found her passion. But the story wasn’t over: one reader in particular, a curly-haired, food-loving composer from New York, found himself enchanted by the redhead in Seattle, and their email correspondence blossomed into a long-distance romance.
In A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table, Molly Wizenberg recounts a life with the kitchen at its center. From her mother’s pound cake, a staple of summer picnics during her childhood in Oklahoma, to the eggs she cooked for her father during the weeks before his death, food and memories are intimately entwined. You won’t be able to decide whether to curl up and sink into the story or to head straight to the market to fill your basket with ingredients for Cider-Glazed Salmon and Pistachio Cake with Honeyed Apricots.
In addition to loving the cover, I’d love to read the book too. You know me and anything ‘foody’. How about you, find any great covers this week. Join the fun and post about it. I’d love to see your picks.
I admit I buy books for their covers all the time. 😀
That book is on my wish list too! It looks and sounds wonderful.
I’m just dropping by to let you know that I’ve given you an award! http://athomewithbooks.blogspot.com/2009/03/awards-roundup.html
That book looks and sounds wonderful!
I do like the sound of this. It sounds so homely. I always imagined having a big kitchen with a fire burning in the middle and everyone sitting in the kitchen chatting and having fun, whilst I prepared dinner.
I love foodie books as well, but had never heard of this one. Sounds like a great read. Thanks!
What a great cover. It sounds like a great book!
The only trouble about the cover is I would not be sure if it was to read or the latest IKEA catalog *grin*

I already put this on my Amazon wish list!
I discovered this one a few days ago myself. You know me, anything about food and I’ll read it! Although I agree that the cover and the title caught my attention.
That’s a great cover! Sounds like a good read too!
Love that cover. This would definitely be a book I’d pick off the shelf at a bookstore. I’m adding it to my wishlist.
It is a cool cover. I’m such a sucker for creative cover design.
Thanks for the sweet comment! I’m hoping to kick this bug today.
Great cover, too. Another great meme I need to start participating in 🙂
I nominated you and your blog for an award here.
I hadn’t heard of this one, but you’re right. It does sound good and the cover is attractive.

I just love the title of this and it sounds like a great story too. Hope you read it!
That is weird…I know I left a comment on this post yesterday but here I go again…I saw that book this weekend @ B/N and totally was drawn to it!! I can’t wait to read this and I already reserved it from my local library…just letting you know that you will be blamed for this! LOL!!!
Thank you for posting a Cover Attraction this week. I love the beautiful silver green color. The kitchen is a rather lonely place in our house. A better use for it would be a library. 🙂
And yes everyone is welcome to post their own Cover Attractions. To show off those great Cover Attractions stop by The Printed Page and leave a link to your blog post.
Oh, I really love that book cover and hope to be able to participate in cover attraction sometime soon! – Stephanie
That’s definitely a terrific cover!
sounds good, and I really like that book cover too!

This sounds great Dar! Thanks for sharing it, this is a great feature. I’ll be adding this one to my wishlist as I love foody books!!
Thanks everyone for stopping by. Marcia that is funny-using your kitchen for a library. Thankfully I love to cook.
Scrap Girl, that would be a dream kitchen for me too to have a fireplace in the middle. Wouldn’t that be so cozy.
lol Staci, I know it’s my fault. I love to blame others for picking up new books too. Don’t we all?
That is a great cover! In my old house I had my teacups hung up in my cabinets like that and I loved the look. Haven’t done it at my current place, though. Hope you enjoy the read!
What a great new idea for a feature. I love the cover you picked Dar ( and the book sounds good too!)
