Ok, so I’m snagging this from Marcia at The Printed Page. She is an amazing blogger who keeps coming up with good ideas. Mailbox Monday is hers and so is By the Chapter which is a wonderful way to discuss great books.
Now this is what Marcia had to say…
- ‘I’m a very visual person and love beautiful cover art. It doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll read the book but at least I might stop and take a peek instead of walking right on by.’
That’s me exactly. I can spend hours pulling books off the shelf because I love the cover.
My cover attraction this week is actually a book sent to me by Marcia…
Title: True Colors by Kristin Hannah, Released February 3, 2009. A description from Amazon.com…
- True Colors is New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah’s most provocative, compelling, and heart-wrenching story yet. With the luminous writing and unforgettable characters that are her trademarks, she tells the story of three sisters whose once-solid world is broken apart by jealousy, betrayal, and the kind of passion that rarely comes along.
The Grey sisters have always been close. After their mother’s death, the girls banded together, becoming best friends. Their stern, disapproving father cares less about his children than about his reputation. To Henry Grey, appearances are everything, and years later, he still demands that his daughters reflect his standing in the community.
Winona, the oldest, needs her father’s approval most of all. An overweight bookworm who never felt at home on the sprawling horse ranch that has been in her family for three generations, she knows that she doesn’t have the qualities her father values. But as the best lawyer in town, she’s determined to someday find a way to prove her worth to him.
Aurora, the middle sister, is the family peacemaker. She brokers every dispute and tries to keep them all happy, even as she hides her own secret pain.
Vivi Ann is the undisputed star of the family. A stunningly beautiful dreamer with a heart as big as the ocean in front of her house, she is adored by all who know her. Everything comes easily for Vivi Ann, until a stranger comes to town. . . .
In a matter of moments, everything will change. The Grey sisters will be pitted against one another in ways that none could have imagined. Loyalties will be tested and secrets revealed, and a terrible, shocking crime will shatter both their family and their beloved town.
With breathtaking pace and penetrating emotional insight, True Colors is an unforgettable novel about sisters, rivalry, forgiveness, redemption—and ultimately, what it means to be a family.
What do I love about this cover other than the very beautiful colors~well, it looks so peaceful and beautiful. What a perfect place to spend time with your girlfriends. Any covers take your fancy this week? I’d love to see them.
I love that cover as well!
I am a sucker for pretty covers as well!:) I don’t judge the book by its cover but I sure decide if i want to pick it up immediately or later based on the cover:) I just finished “Hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet” by Jamie Ford and loved the cover.. I am sure you must have seen it around:)
Oops.. I forgot to add that I loved the cover of true colors.. everything about it is so appealing and i love the shells that are in focus:)
I agree – there’s nothing like a great book cover. A great cover draws me in and a lousy cover can turn me off.
Thank you for the kind words Dar.
‘True Colors’ does have an amazingly attractive cover. If it hadn’t been sent to me by Anna at Authors on The Web I would have most certainly bought or borrowed it. The colors are very peaceful and inviting.
Ramya – my original ARC of ‘Hotel’ had a very plain Jane cover but a story I absolutely loved. I mailed it off to another blogger not thinking twice about keeping it as I don’t usually keep my books. Once I saw the final cover I just knew I had to have a copy for my bookcase. Mr. Ford was kind enough to send me another ARC with the beautiful cover art.
I do love the cover for this book! My interesting cover for this week is from The World in Half. It is very visually arresting and I think that even though there is not a whole lot of embellishment, it is subtle and beautiful. My favorite cover of all time has to be the old cover for The Master and Margarita, you can’t find that version much out there anymore. It had a cartoon version of a black cat with a serpents tongue sticking out of a mouthful of fangs. I can’t verbally do it justice, but it was a great cover. The book remains one of my favorites of all time.
What a coincidence. I just had this discussion via e mail with Stephen Lovely, author of Irreplaceable. I had sent him a copy of my review and told him how much I liked his book BUT the cover smacked of sappy chick lit. Caite, over at a Lovely Shore Breeze reviewed the book also and didn’t like the cover so I asked her what would be the alternative. “Less pink” was her answer. Stephen said he doesn’t like the cover either and is afraid it will turn people off. I neve knew before that some authors have no say in the cover design. I am a cover junkie. If the cover is appealing, I will pick the book up, no matter what the title is. Kristen Hannah’s cover is nice because it does evoke a feeling of peace and serenity although from the weathered porch railing I get a feeling that things can be eroded. The shells are brittle and can be chipped easily. Hannah has a way of writing that gets below the surface to the very heart
of the character just as the paint has been eroded off the railing over time.
I love this cover too!
Like Ramya, I don’t judge a book by its cover but they do entice me to pick up the books especially if they’re books I’ve not read/heard of. My cover for this week will be The School of Essential Ingredients! I just loved the colours and the layout. Very pretty and oh looks so yummy! 😉
I LOVED the cover of this one too, but unfortunately, the book…not so much 🙁
Beautiful cover Dar… I would totally be a sucker for that one… a good cover is a must.
I have requested this book from the library but there are now 35 people ahead of me! I do love the cover. I also love the covers of The 13th Tale and Tallgrass.
I noticed this book over on J. Kaye’s Blog and I also love the cover. I wanted to let you know that I gave you an award.
The cover is beautiful – it is definitely the colours in it. I love to look at covers and they definitely influence which books I buy. Thanks for letting me know about reading Luxe first. I will get that one next.
I almost always judge a book by its cover!! this one is gorgeous and makes me want to read it!!
I love that cover………
God bless
I’m not really in love with any covers this week although I did get some interesting things from the library!
that is a beautiful book cover. I do the same, I pull books off the shelves at the bookstore or library to look at the covers. I’m a sucker for a good book cover. True Colors sounds like a great read.
Right now I’m reading The Mighty Queens of Freeville, and I like that cover. It reminds me of summertime and family.

I absolutely am attracted to (or avoid) books because of their covers! I like the colors on this book you highlighted, it looks peaceful and inviting.
It’s true that some books have more cover appeal than others but ultimately, it is the back cover that determines whether or not I bring the book home.
Based on the front cover alone, I might or might not pick up True Colors … sometimes it just depends on what I’m in a mood to read.
Is this a weekly event? You know I’m a fellow cover lover (haha – I’m rhyming here) so this sounds like fun.
I really like this cover as well. Even with the author’s other book, Firefly Lane, I would walk by it in the store and have to stop and take a peek every time. I never actually bought it though (although I did end up with a copy eventually, just not one I bought for myself).
I’m like you and Marcia. I am attracted to certain covers and they may be the reason I pull a book off a shelf to take a closer look.
I love this cover, too. Warm skies always attract my attention.

Thanks everyone for stopping by my cover attraction from —oh last week I guess. As you can tell I’m very behind in comments and must get better at replying in a timely fashion. I will be working on that this week. That said I found your comments interesting.
