I have come to the conclusion~~~although truthfully I’ve known this for a long time~~~I have no self control when I go into a bookstore.
I went today only to renew my club card at the bookstore. I had 20% off the renewal so of course I had to take advantage of that. The thing is that they know once they have me in the store they’ll make up that 20% and more because I will undoubtedly buy something.
And I did…
- The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie (this one I will blame on Ramya at Ramya’s Bookshelf because she speaks so highly of his novels)
- Virgin by Robin Maxwell
- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society (which everyone knows about and most have read except for me)
- The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill
So, there you have it, more evidence of my addiction. LOL. Now I’m going to settle in and read some of the ones I have started for March. Oh, and I’m going to get my update for February posted. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!
Don't forget that you also cause others to lose their self control when you post about beautiful new books… 😉 Great choices!
I read GL&PPPS on audio and loved all of the accents.
I totally understand.
That’s why I’ve tried my best to avoid bookstores lately!
I sure do know about that addiction. Bookstores are dangerous! LOL
Don’t worry…you aren’t alone and admitting your problem is step #1. Ha!! Nice choices…you will LOVE the Guernsey book!!
Well, it could be worse…the addiction…right? At least that is what I tell my hubby!!! You made some fantastic choices!! Loved Guernsey and the others I’ve heard of but now I can’t wait for you to finish reading them to see if I should too!!! No pressure 🙂
BTW…I have no self-control when I go to the library, even when I tell myself…just get the ones you put on hold. DO NOT LOOK at any shelves!! I always do and I always leave with at least 3 extra than I planned to!!
I get so irritated with my son at his willingness to spend his last penny on video games, and literally starts to twitch when we are on our way for a Game Stop visit. But then I have to check myself, because I am the same way at the book store. Why fight it? We should just enjoy the ride and wave of happiness, right? BTW, you will fall in love with Guernsey. It stole my heart.
I went to two bookstores yesterday and did not buy a single thing. Obviously, I was having an off day.
And hey…you did a little remodeling, too. Pretty spiffy!
Welcome to the club 😀
I will be very interested in your review of THE ENCHANTRESS OF FLORENCE I also bought it because of Ramya!
“THE GUERNSEY…” is still sitting on my TBR.
I am on the last 150 pages of THE STORY OF EDGAR SAWTELLE” It is 600+ pages so counts as 2 books in February…so I read 3 books, wasn’t a good month. Hope to enjoy reading in March
Have a nice upcoming week Dar
Well I am one of those fools that always declines the club card thinking it is a waste of money but then spends three times as much not buying one.
I haven’t read Guernsey either!
Well, at least you know you are among friends with the whole book buying addiction, right? I’m looking forward to your review on the Potato Peel one. I really want to read it myself one of these days…it sounds so good!
I have no control either which is why I ask hubby to make me tell him exactly why I want a book and I let him decide how many I can get. I just spend WAY too much without him lol.
I’ve no self control either, when it comes to books that is! LOL.
Tee Hee! That’s how they get us every time. However, we go out of there happy campers, don’t we? 🙂
Hi Dar….does it feel good to confess. Ha ha.. but in blogland we wil just enable you. ha ha..
I have a nice new copy of Guernsey to read myself. I can’t wait to read it. 🙂
lol, I made my husband go into the bookstore to pick up a b-day gift I wanted for my little girl’s friend just so I wouldn’t be tempted…
Enjoy your books Dar, I’ll look forward to your reviews!
This is one addiction I’m happy to admit. I hope we never have to join BLA (Book Lovers Anonynous).
oh please, woman, we are all addicted! lol
and of course you had to take advantage of the 20% off, so I dont even blame you 🙂
happy reading.

Dar, you’re not the only one who hasn’t read Guernsey… I haven’t either, but a friend did lend me her copy, so I’ll be reading it soon!
I adored The Enchantress of Florence – I hope you enjoy it!
LOL-thanks everyone for making me feel better about my addiction.
Staci, I have no control in the library either. I bring the books home and wonder where I can even put them so they don’t get mixed up with the others.
Jill, I can’t believe you made it out of a bookstore with nothing. Wow, I’m in awe.
lol Dave, Book Lovers Anonymous might not be such a bad idea.
Swapna, I’m thinking of getting Midnight’s Child too. My fingers are trying to control themselves to not do any online purchasing today. lol.
aren’t we all addicted to books and bookstores…? I know I am…I’m also addicted to entering these carnival contests.
I think we’re all just a bunch of addicts and enablers. If you’re going to lose control once in awhile, at least you’re buying books, not crack. 😉 Happy reading!

Diary of an Eccentric
The Lawrence Hill book was my favorite from last year. It really stuck with me. It is weird though because I think the Canadian and American releases have different names. I can’t quite figure it out. Enjoy!
Can’t wait to see what you think of The Enchantress. I haven’t read it, but like Ramya, I loved Midnight’s Children. Enjoy the new books–and a little unselfcontrol is ok sometimes, right? 🙂
Serena, I was busy entering those contests too and didn’t win a thing—all that time wasted. lol.
Anna, you’re right-we are enablers. I went and bought more books last week. Why with all I get from everywhere else-who knows.
Rachel, I’ve noticed that some have different titles too. Weird isn’t it. I think it’s strange how many different book covers are out on a book too.
Trish, yes I think it’s ok once in a while. It’s so ok that I went and bought Midnight’s Children last week. lol.
