Once Upon a Time Challenge

March 24, 2009 by Darlene

Ok, I wasn’t going to join any more challenges but I’ve seen this one around at so many of my favorite bloggy friends that I just couldn’t resist. It’s the Once Upon a Time III Challenge and it’s running from March 21 – June 20. If you’d like to see what this challenge is all about and join in, head over to Carl’s blog at Stainless Steel Droppings here and check it out.

I’m choosing to do The Journey and Quest the First. With The Journey you are agreeing to read just one book. With Quest the First you are agreeing to read five books. Now I know for a fact I will definitely read one of these books as it’s also on my reading list for April and I’m pretty sure I’ll read more hence joining Quest the First also. Ok, so have I lost everyone yet. lol. My list is as follows…

  • Inkspell by Cornelia Funke (has been on my bookshelf forever now)
  • Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay (also on my shelf for ages) (new author to me)
  • Keeper of Light and Dust by Natasha Mostert (new author to me)
  • The Wild Wood by Charles de Lint (new author to me)
  • The Little Country by Charles de Lint (I have heard so many good things about his books that, by now, I need to give them a go. Also, he’s a Canadian author which is always a plus to me.
  • Sea Changes by Gail Graham

So, I’m excited to get going. I’ll be reading Keeper of Light and Dust first and then I think I’ll save Inkspell to start for the read-a-thon as I think it’ll be a fast read even though it’s a lot of pages or who knows maybe I’ll delve into a Charles de Lint book instead.

Glad you decided to join in Dar! Of these books I have only read The Little Country, which was one of the earliest fantasy books I remember reading.

Inkspell is indeed a pretty fast read. ^-^ Also the only one of the books there that I’ve read. I still need to get my hands on Ysabel to read. I love Kay’s works. ^-^ de Lint is also on my list of new authors which I hope to read for the OUaT challenge.

    Happy reading!

It seems like many of my blogger friends have jumped on the bandwagon with this one! I’m impressed. I have signed up for enough challenges already that I will most likely not finish the ones I have!

When I first started blogging, I read a few reviews on Charles de Lint books, and I wrote his name down. I still haven’t read any of his books, but I’m looking forward to seeing if you really like him!

You are the second blogger I’ve read that joined this one. This is right up my alley too, but I don’t know. Not sure if I can finish what I have now…how sad is that. I’ll definitely think about it though.

I have The Little Country on my list too. And I’ve heard nothing but wonders about Ysabel. Happy reading, Dar!

You have some great titles on your list. I have not heard of them. I am going to put Ysabel on my list for this challenge. Thanks for posting your titles.

So glad to hear you are joining us too. It wouldn’t be the same without you. Can’t wait to hear what you think of Inkspell, I really enjoyed it.

Carl, thanks for popping by. I’m looking forward to reading something different than I normally do-namely De Lint. I think I’ll enjoy it.

Trish, I’m excited for the read-a-thon. I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to read but I’ll probably just end up reading a whole bunch so I don’t get bored.

Everyone else who is in the challenge I look forward to seeing some reviews.

As for challenges, I probably shouldn’t join anymore and I’ve vowed that this was it otherwise I may be embarassed at the end of the year when I do my wrap up. lol.
