Musing Mondays (April 13)

April 13, 2009 by Darlene

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about blog comments
How do you respond to the comments on your blog? Do you try to email individually or comment on post yourself answering the comments above? What do you think is the best way to respond to comments and do you respond to all of them? Do you feel slighted if you don’t receive a response back from the blog owner? (question courtesy of
Jenn)

Ugggggh. I have been so bad about answering comments lately. I used to be so good and I don’t know what changed. I do however love and appreciate all the comments you all leave on my blog and I read each and every one of them. I’m just late in responding to them of late. I usually just respond by leaving a comment on my post but sometimes I will respond personally if the comment warrants it. Truthfully though, up until a little while ago I didn’t even know I could respond personally. lol. I normally do try to respond to all the comments on a post but will bunch several people together in one response if it makes sense. Do I like receiving responses to comments I leave on blogs~sure I do but I don’t feel slighted if I don’t unless I’ve asked a question. It’s nice though to know your comment has been acknowledged which makes it even worse that I haven’t been doing that lately myself.

How about you? Do you respond to comments personally or on your blog? Do you feel slighted when I don’t respond to comments you leave on my blog right away? Gosh, I sure hope not…and again I promise to get better…

I didn’t know either before recently that you could respond personally…should actually try it though to check it out. But I like to do it on my blog

I try to respond to all my comments, because I’m new at blogging and I’m SO EXCITED when I have a comment. Sometimes I post back on my blog, and sometimes I send an email.. it kind of depends on the type of comment it is.

I always respond if there is a direct question, but not always on other comments. From what I can see, many others are that way, too. 🙂

I don’t get many comments on my blog but I do try to respond if someone has left one — even if they haven’t asked a question. I can understand, though, if someone has a busy blog, how it would be hard to respond to everything (I have a forum which is busier than my blog so I know how it is)

I don’t usually feel slighted if someone doesn’t respond to a comment I’ve left EXCEPT when I’ve left several comments and not one of them has ever been acknowledged.

Dar, I think you do a great job responding to comments. It is hard as it can be time consuming and if someone just says “great review” there is no need to answer. I am probably in the minority as in my Musing post I said something similar to what Lynn posted here. I don’t feel slighted when someone doesn’t respond to my comments unless I’ve left many comments (besides great review!)and they are never acknowledged.

I usually respond by email if the comment asks a very specific question but I will post a comment on my blog if a lot of folks ask me the same question.

I just know that when I visit other blogs to comment, I often forget to go back and see if they responded back to me. I am always thrilled when they do, but I know that a lot of blogs with heavy traffic just cannot comment on every comment. It’s just too much so I don’t feel slighted at all.

I do try to respond to all direct questions, but I don’t thing *every* comment needs a response.

Certainly, a direct question will get a response. Usually, most other comments may get a sort of group response. I do want to acknowledge that I have read them and appreciate comments, but on the other hand, I am not at all slighted if my comment somewhere is not responded to…I never said I was logical!

This has been a great musing and it’s been interesting to see so many views. I respond personally if I really have something to say or to answer a question. If I want other commenters to see my response (e.g., responding to an author comment), I’ll respond through the comments.

I always get annoyed when someone asks a question in their comment, but then their email is hidden and you can’t respond that way. I wish every blogger would have their email listed in their profile. It’s so much easier to respond to someone personally.

You do a great job at responding Dar. Way better than I do!

I am going to start doing it on my blog, because otherwise I forgot or never have enough time.
I think you are pretty timely my dear! Besides you always drop a line or a post or smething and that’s always good enough for me 🙂

Dar, you do a great job responding to my posts, and I know you follow so many, so I do appreciate you! I don’t necessarily need responses to my comments on your blog. I try my very darndest to respond to all of my comments, but it just gets to be difficult to get to all of them sometimes. This could easily be a full-time job, huh?

I echo the others. I think you did a great job in responding, Dar! For me, I’ll try my best to answer every comment unless the post doesn’t warrant a reply. I’ll also send a separate email if it’s personal. 🙂

I like when people respond to comments in their posts, but I also know how time consuming it is, especially when there are so many comments to respond to. I do try, and I usually go for bunches. I’m not sure if anyone ever subscribes back to the comments, but they’re there if people want to read them. I understand if people don’t respond back in their own posts–everyone has their own style. I always subscribe to follow up comments unless I know that the person doesn’t answer. Does any of this make sense? Anyway, don’t get down on yourself, Dar! You do a fantastic job and we all know how much you care.

This was a great MM for discussion, wasn’t it?! I think we all feel like we could do a better job with our commenting, after reading everyone’s answers 🙂 But I do think you’re a great commenter and I always look forward to what you have to say!

I’m so bad these days about responding to comments right away. I do try and respond–it just may be days later. I hope no one is turned off by that. :-S

I love it when people take the time to comment on my blog and so I try and acknowledge their comment by responding as a result. I also try and visit the commenter’s blog if I can.
