Waiting on Wednesday (June 10)

June 10, 2009 by Darlene

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I have two this week. They are…

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella which will be released by Random House on July 21, 2009. I’m a fan of Sophie Kinsella and I really enjoy her stand alone books. Here’s a bit about this one from Random House…

Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, but suddenly that imagination seems to be in overdrive. Normal professional twenty-something young women don’t get visited by ghosts. Or do they?

When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie–a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance–mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, and Sadie cannot rest without it. Lara, on the other hand, has a number of ongoing distractions. Her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, her start-up company is floundering, and she’s just been dumped by the “perfect” man.

Sadie, however, could care less.

Lara and Sadie make a hilarious sparring duo, and at first it seems as though they have nothing in common. But as the mission to find Sadie’s necklace leads to intrigue and a new romance for Lara, these very different “twenties” girls learn some surprising truths from each other along the way. Written with all the irrepressible charm and humor that have made Sophie Kinsella’s books beloved by millions, Twenties Girl is also a deeply moving testament to the transcendent bonds of friendship and family.

The second one is Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay which will be released by Random House on August 11, 2009. I’ve really gotten into reading his books in the last few years so I’m looking forward to this one too. Here’s a bit about it from Random House…

Seventeen-year-old Sydney Blake’s summer is shaping up to be typical for a teenager: she’s spending it with her father, and she has landed a part-time job at a local hotel. One night, Syd fails to come home from her shift, and her father Tim is a bit alarmed. However, that alarm turns to full-on panic after he visits the Just Inn Time hotel and the manager claims that Syd has never worked there. Grilling his daughter’s friends for clues leads Tim nowhere — except to threats against his life — and as he frantically chases every lead, he can’t help but wonder if Syd is even still alive. Despite a growing list of unanswered questions, all Tim knows for certain is that he must continue searching for his daughter — no matter how high the stakes become.

So how about you? What are you anxiously awaiting? Leave me your link or share here in the comments.

Yep – both are on my TBR List! 🙂 I'm also a fan of John Grisham and yesterday I found out that he has a new book coming out in November called Ford County: Stories. "Stories" is different, so I'm even more curious now. And, excited!

Kinsella has written some fun books, but I prefer the suspense of Barclay. Great suggestions. Here is mine:

I've read her "Domestic Goddess" and love it. That's just about the only Kinsella book that I like. 🙂

I am so behind on my Sophie Kinsella books. I guess it's good most of them aren't a part of a series. 🙂 I don't normally read these types of books, but I do like Kinsella's writing and stories.

    Fear The Worst sounds fantastic!

Unique mystery/thrillers are something that I really enjoy, so I'm looking forward to that one!

I have been wanting to read Linwood Barclay's mysteries for a while now. I was a huge fan of his humour column in the Toronto Star back when he was writing them.

Now your second choice Fear The Worst – that I am dying to read 🙂

I am more than a month behind in comments. For shame! I apologize.

Thanks everyone for stopping by and leaving me a comment. I do really appreciate them and love hearing from everyone even though I don't ever seem to get to them in a timely fashion.

Nicole, Kinsella has a few stand alones and they are all quite good.

Joy, I've never read anything by Grisham although I've heard so many good things about his books.

Trish, Dar or Darlene is fine by me. Whichever you like to use. I find people always have a preference and I'm ok with either. Darlene just looked a lot nicer in a signature than Dar. lol.
