Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
I am very eagerly anticipating John Saul’s newest novel called House of Reckoning. It will be released October 13, 2009 by Ballantine Books. I have read every one of his previous 35 novels I think it is and I can’t wait for this one! He is at the top of my list of favorite authors and has been for years. Here’s a bit about the book from John Saul’s website…
For more than three decades John Saul has haunted the New York Times bestseller list-and readers’ imaginations-with his chilling tales of psychological suspense and supernatural horror. His instinct for striking the deepest chords of fear in our hearts and minds is unerring, and his gift for steering a tale from the light of day into the darkest depths of nightmare is at its harrowing best in House of Reckoning.
After the untimely death of her mother while she is still in her early teens, Sarah Crane is forced to grow up quickly-in order to help tend her family’s Vermont farm and look after her grieving father, who’s drowning his sorrow in alcohol. But their quiet life together is shattered when her father is jailed for killing another man in a barroom brawl, and injuring Sarah in a drunken car crash.
Left in the cold care of a loveless foster family and alienated at school, Sarah finds a kindred spirit in classmate Nick Dunnigan, a former mental patient still plagued by voices and visions. And in eccentric art instructor Bettina Phillips, she finds a mentor eager to nurture her talent for painting.
But within the walls of Bettina’s ancestral home, the mansion called Shutters, Sarah finds something altogether different and disturbing.
Monstrous images from the house’s dark history seem to flow unbidden from her paintbrush-images echoed by Nick’s chilling hallucinations. Trapped for ages in the shadowy rooms of Shutters, the violence and fury of long-dead generations has finally found a gateway from the grave into the world of the living. And Sarah and Nick have found a power they never had: to take control, and take revenge.
Ooooh-la-la, it sounds good. John Saul has not disappointed me even once with his novels and by the sounds of this one, it will be no different. I’m not trying to rush the summer but I’d love to already be reading this. lol.
How about you? What are you waiting for? Leave me your link or share in the comments.
Holy Mackeral, Dar! If there were an award for impressive author fan, you would win hands down. 35 books by the same author and you have read them all says a lot about that author. The only book so far that I am eagerly awaiting is Return to Sullivan's Island by Dorothea Benton Frank.
This sounds really good. I think I have read most of his books too, though I don't have all of them at the moment. He is a great writer and he's changed some over the years, but I still enjoy all of his books. I think I started reading him when I was about 13 and some of those first ones scared the mess out of me.
So I will be definitely waiting on October 13th right there with you!
He is quite the prolific author. His work must be good if you've read it all.
I don't think I've read more than 10 books by the same author…oh, well besides Lemony Snicket I guess.
ooohhhhh!!! I haven't read one of his book in ages but I have a good friend who loves him..will have to let her know!!
I've never read this author before, but this does sound really good! I'll add it to my wish list too!
Thanks!
Blimey – 35 books and you have read them all.
The cover is fantastic – really scary looking. I shall add to my list. I love books like this.
I love John Saul! I think I have read almost all of his book (and there are alot!)
I wanted to let you know that I won a copy of "A summer affair" from Toni. I can't remember If I entered yours or not but if I did you can take me out of the running.
I love John Saul, too! I'll be looking for this one!
Talk about a testament to how good an author's work is; what a commitment. This is my first time hearing if this author.
I'm waiting to get over a Urinary Tract Infection I've been battling since May 7th. I'm sick of being sick.
I have learned about a lot of new authors and read a lot of new books this year. I have posted reviews and wrote authors to encourage them. There are so many authors out there with good books people do not know abut. I have introduced many authors to this area this year. Have a great day.

I absolutely LOVE his books! Dar, do you remember The Blackstone Chronicles? Still remember them & get chills.
It's been ages since I've read one of John Saul's books. This one sounds good.
One more author that I really need to check out 🙂
Well, I'm back again with an award – this time it is the brand new Bingo award. Plese stop by when you get a chance to pick up the button and the criteria.
I used to read so much John Saul when I was in high school. I read all of his older stuff but haven't read him in years. I'm going to have to look into his newer stuff.

Hi Dar! Daisy is the best dog…very affectionate and loving. She is afraid of our cats and still a little bit wary of the Chihuahuas. I took her to the vet yesterday for a check up. She got a clean bill of health except for one thing. Every now and then, she will regurgitate a little bit of undigested food. The vet advised me to give her Pepcid for her tummy. But he also said it could be a more serious condition called Megaesophagus. I have been on the web all morning researching it and it sounds like she has it. I am worried because that will be major…probably surgery, probably lots of $$$$$$. We are leaving to go on vacation for a week on Saturday…the dogs are coming with us, so we will continue to monitor her. If she keeps doing it daily (which she has been doing) we will deal with it when we get home. In the meantime, I am going to buy her an elevated feeding bowl. Maybe that will help! Thanks so much for asking about her. 🙂
Have a great day!
Wow! That sounds like it's going to be great!! I'll look for that one.
I'm waiting for the next Sena Jeta Naslund book. I have no idea if there is one coming, but I just love her writing. Ahab's Wife took my breath away.
I used to read him, but haven't in a while. I had no idea that he had written 35 books!! I am desperately awaiting Lori Lansens new one The Wife's Tale in September.
I thought I was following your blog on a daily basis, but I guess not SORRY 🙁 This John Saul book looks good! Thanks Dar
I didn't know John Saul has a new book out! I'm a John Saul fan too! 😉
It has been a while since I read him, Dar, but what a fan you are!
I also came by to tell you to stop by my blog as I have an award for you! Thanks!
This one does sound very good.
Wow, youve read his 35 books!

I know, bad me. I'm very behind in comments and I keep saying I won't do it anymore and it keeps happening. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrg.
lol-Yes 35 books is a lot. It makes me remember how old I am when I realize how long I've been following his writing.
Diane, I do remember The Blackstone Chronicles. I remember when they first came out they were just the skinny little books and then you had to anxiously wait for the next one. Now you can get them all together. lol.
Missy, how's Daisy doing now?
