Waiting on Wednesday (June 17)

June 17, 2009 by Darlene

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I am very eagerly anticipating John Saul’s newest novel called House of Reckoning. It will be released October 13, 2009 by Ballantine Books. I have read every one of his previous 35 novels I think it is and I can’t wait for this one! He is at the top of my list of favorite authors and has been for years. Here’s a bit about the book from John Saul’s website…

For more than three decades John Saul has haunted the New York Times bestseller list-and readers’ imaginations-with his chilling tales of psychological suspense and supernatural horror. His instinct for striking the deepest chords of fear in our hearts and minds is unerring, and his gift for steering a tale from the light of day into the darkest depths of nightmare is at its harrowing best in House of Reckoning.

After the untimely death of her mother while she is still in her early teens, Sarah Crane is forced to grow up quickly-in order to help tend her family’s Vermont farm and look after her grieving father, who’s drowning his sorrow in alcohol. But their quiet life together is shattered when her father is jailed for killing another man in a barroom brawl, and injuring Sarah in a drunken car crash.

Left in the cold care of a loveless foster family and alienated at school, Sarah finds a kindred spirit in classmate Nick Dunnigan, a former mental patient still plagued by voices and visions. And in eccentric art instructor Bettina Phillips, she finds a mentor eager to nurture her talent for painting.

But within the walls of Bettina’s ancestral home, the mansion called Shutters, Sarah finds something altogether different and disturbing.

Monstrous images from the house’s dark history seem to flow unbidden from her paintbrush-images echoed by Nick’s chilling hallucinations. Trapped for ages in the shadowy rooms of Shutters, the violence and fury of long-dead generations has finally found a gateway from the grave into the world of the living. And Sarah and Nick have found a power they never had: to take control, and take revenge.

Ooooh-la-la, it sounds good. John Saul has not disappointed me even once with his novels and by the sounds of this one, it will be no different. I’m not trying to rush the summer but I’d love to already be reading this. lol.

How about you? What are you waiting for? Leave me your link or share in the comments.

Holy Mackeral, Dar! If there were an award for impressive author fan, you would win hands down. 35 books by the same author and you have read them all says a lot about that author. The only book so far that I am eagerly awaiting is Return to Sullivan's Island by Dorothea Benton Frank.

This sounds really good. I think I have read most of his books too, though I don't have all of them at the moment. He is a great writer and he's changed some over the years, but I still enjoy all of his books. I think I started reading him when I was about 13 and some of those first ones scared the mess out of me.

So I will be definitely waiting on October 13th right there with you!

Talk about a testament to how good an author's work is; what a commitment. This is my first time hearing if this author.

I'm waiting to get over a Urinary Tract Infection I've been battling since May 7th. I'm sick of being sick.
I have learned about a lot of new authors and read a lot of new books this year. I have posted reviews and wrote authors to encourage them. There are so many authors out there with good books people do not know abut. I have introduced many authors to this area this year. Have a great day.

I used to read so much John Saul when I was in high school. I read all of his older stuff but haven't read him in years. I'm going to have to look into his newer stuff.

You were tagged on my blog:

Hi Dar! Daisy is the best dog…very affectionate and loving. She is afraid of our cats and still a little bit wary of the Chihuahuas. I took her to the vet yesterday for a check up. She got a clean bill of health except for one thing. Every now and then, she will regurgitate a little bit of undigested food. The vet advised me to give her Pepcid for her tummy. But he also said it could be a more serious condition called Megaesophagus. I have been on the web all morning researching it and it sounds like she has it. I am worried because that will be major…probably surgery, probably lots of $$$$$$. We are leaving to go on vacation for a week on Saturday…the dogs are coming with us, so we will continue to monitor her. If she keeps doing it daily (which she has been doing) we will deal with it when we get home. In the meantime, I am going to buy her an elevated feeding bowl. Maybe that will help! Thanks so much for asking about her. 🙂
    Have a great day!

I know, bad me. I'm very behind in comments and I keep saying I won't do it anymore and it keeps happening. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrg.

lol-Yes 35 books is a lot. It makes me remember how old I am when I realize how long I've been following his writing.

Diane, I do remember The Blackstone Chronicles. I remember when they first came out they were just the skinny little books and then you had to anxiously wait for the next one. Now you can get them all together. lol.

    Missy, how's Daisy doing now?
