Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week is Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah to be released by St. Martin’s Press on February 2, 2010. I have a couple of Kristin Hannah’s books on my shelf that I will be reading in the New Year as my goal is going to be to work on reducing the amount of books I have on my shelves. As I’ve found with Kristin Hannah’s books, the cover of this one is beautiful as well. Here’s a bit about the book from Fantastic Fiction…
From the author of the smash-hit bestseller Firefly Lane and True Colors comes a powerful, heartbreaking novel that illuminates the intricate mother-daughter bond and explores the enduring links between the present and the past.
Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard: the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father fails ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters. As children, the only connection between them was the Russian fairy tale Anya sometimes told the girls at night. On his deathbed, their father extracts a promise from the women in his life: the fairy tale will be told one last time – and all the way to the end. Thus begins an unexpected journey into the truth of Anya’s life in war-torn Leningrad, more than five decades ago. Alternating between the past and present, Meredith and Nina will finally hear the singular, harrowing story of their mother’s life, and what they learn is a secret so terrible and terrifying that it will shake the very foundation of their family and change who they believe they are.
Yet another one I’d love to read! Doesn’t it sound fantastic! How about you – what are you waiting for this week?
Sounds good! I am waiting for the Paperback of Steig Larson's 3rd book 🙂
You are right, this sounds wonderful! I just read about one posted by My Friend Amy that has got my juices flowing called Fireworks over Taccoa. Go check it out.
I also wanted to tell you not to worry if you haven't been around lately. It would break my heart if you felt bad about it. You just get yourself better. I think you need to move to Florida – that might help! We are humid and warm down here!
Sounds like a good book, Dar. I plan to read off my shelves much more in the coming year. I'm also not going to do as many challenges – probably just the Read Your Own Books : )
I have only read one by her. I really liked it and always intended on reading more… but there are so many books out there!
As a fan of Kristin's books I will be on the look out for this one.
This is on my list, too…great pick!
Darlene, I love Kristin Hannah's books! Thanks for the review, I didn't know she had a new one out. Have a great day!

Interesting cover but it's the title that I really like. It conjures up many wonderful images!
It does sound fantastic, Dar!
