I’m doing my Moby Dick Mondays post today because I have a review going up tomorrow morning. Moby Dick Mondays is being hosted by Ti at Book Chatter.
I’ll admit to being intimidated by this book but to be very honest I’m enjoying it. I’m probably not really getting the literary or all the Biblical references being made but the story is keeping me reading and that’s all I care about.
We meet Ishmael who is looking to set out on a whaling boat. The first part is kind of dreary but still I wanted to keep reading. However when we got to the part where Ishmael meets Queequeg, a harpooner, I had trouble putting down my eReader. From what I gather he is one scary looking character and Ishmael is plain old scared of him. To top it off he has to share a room with this guy. What ensues with these two characters had me laughing. I’m looking forward to reading more about their interactions with each other.
I’m just now on Chapter 6 so I’m not sure if I’m where I should be or not as I’m reading on my eReader. I’m anxious though to fit in a few pages again tonight and see what’s going to happen next.
Check in next week for another update on my reading of Moby Dick.
I am living Moby Dick through these Moby Mondays.. loving it. I hope to read along and catch up. It is so enjoyable. I have mine in a big old leather bound volume and my reader. The reader is so much easier. Happy Reading.
I think at the time Moby Dick was considered quite humorous in parts, and that's certainly how I take it now. I loved "the bedroom scene" with Ishmael and Queequog!
I need to read MOBY DICK. Can't believe I still have not done it. Arrgghh…
I'm still intimidated by Moby Dick, but enjoying everyone's posts!
Glad you are enjoying it!
It sounds like all of you are enjoying Moby Dick much more than you thought you would!
Queequeg is definitely one of the (few) highlights of the book for me. I was very happy to meet him!
It's funny because when I tried to read this seven other times, I did not get the humor between Queequeg and Ishmael. I must have been so down on reading it that it skipped right over me.
This time around I am getting all the lovely nuances and reading it with a group is just so much more pleasant.
Sorry it took me so long to comment. I got hit with a whopping head cold and it caught me by surprise.
I bow before your courage and commitment!
I was looking for you Moby Dick Monday posts. Saw your comment to Ti today. Don't worry Dar, you are not really behind. I'm deliberately going slower to enjoy every turn of phrase. My post today is my first as I just joined last week. Maybe something in it will peak your interest in continuing:
