Sunday Ramblings & Buddy

May 30, 2010 by Darlene

Good morning everyone. I guess I haven’t done one of these in a while so I thought I would today. Buddy is resting comfortably on my shoulder looking out at the snow – yes I said snow (I have a few pictures).

There isn’t any more news on him yet but he did have one really bad day this past week in which I hurried him in to the vets. He wouldn’t eat at all – not even treats. I’d give him one and he’d drop it on the floor and leave it. He was very sluggish and just sleeping. Needless to say it scared me a lot. He didn’t want to drink at all either which is why I took him in because with a kidney issue it’s not good if he isn’t drinking. The vet poked him and all and had said that he would have days like that where he just didn’t feel good but I have to really watch so he doesn’t dehydrate. Part of the problem is that he only wants to eat his meat and carrots – he turns his nose up at the rice or spits it out on the floor. So I had given him some potato which I guess since he’s eating mostly protein caused him a good tummy ache. Does anyone have any suggestions on other safe carbs to give a dog? Anyhow, the past few days have been normal again so I’m very grateful. I was terrified that it was what the vet had told me that he can go from good to bad in a matter of a day. I thank God that wasn’t the case. Please keep praying for him everyone. Here’s a few pics of the little guy this week…

Buddy in his standard pose. As soon as the camera came out he plopped his butt down and wouldn’t move.
Buddy was hiding from me in Grandpa’s coat. Isn’t this adorable? This is definitely going to be one of my favorite pics- the two guys I love most in the world. (ps- I do not smoke but unfortunately my mom does)

Nothing too special going on here other than it’s very cold and snowy. It melted some overnight but geez it’s snow in almost June. I’m not feeling the best; with Buddy being sick and me stressed my rheumatoid arthritis is really acting up. I haven’t done a lot of reading this past week – I seem to be in a reading slump again. I did finish One That I Want by Allison Winn Scotch and I really liked it. My review will up this week on Wednesday I think it is. I started Souvenir by Therese Fowler and wow is it good. I’m having a really hard time putting it down so hopefully it’s what I needed to get me out of my reading slump.

And here are the pics of the snow! It’s cold on top of it- of course it would have to be for the snow to be staying around. I’m hoping I’ll be able to wear my summer duds soon and sit out on that bench you see upside down in the picture (keeping the rain and snow off)…

Those are our flowers we’ve got covered up so that they wouldn’t freeze last night. Our tomatoes are covered elsewhere in the yard. Thankfully all that is planted in the garden is potatoes and they are still underground.

I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend! Did anyone do anything special or just hang out inside like I did? I wanted to say thanks again to all those who comment and ask about Buddy on a regular basis and those who send me private emails. You all are great friends and I feel grateful to have you all in my life!

It is hard to imagine snow when I am enjoying 80 degree weather and have been in the pool all weekend. Love the picture of Buddy and Grandpa. Continued prayers for you and Buddy!

Dar, I love the photos. Hugs to you and Buddy. Wow, you have snow!? Warm and humid day in my area. We're celebrating my husband's birthday with family and a cookout at our house later today.
I hope your area returns to spring very soon!

Snow? Are you kidding me?! It has been 80's even 90's here! I had no idea.
You would never know about buddy's health by looking at him. He looks so healthy and happy!
And yes, cute picture of Buddy in Grandpa's coat! I am always praying for you my dear!

I hope things continue to go well for Buddy – he so adorable! I moved to Denver a couple of years ago from the midwest and I still haven't gotten used to seeing snow up on the mountains when it's almost June! It snowed a little bit here a few weeks ago and I finally packed away the winter coats yesterday. We had a couple of really hot days last week in the city but this week should be nice and springlike!

I hope Buddy continues to feel better! Our BJ has issues too, and when we give him beef and rice, he tends to eat around the rice. Amazing that he can accomplish that after I thoroughly mix it up! And of course that's where the medicine sticks! Our girl Kasha use to get a special food for her Kidneys from the vet, a canned food, but other than the meat and rice, I'm not sure what other carbs to mix. If anyone can suggest something I'll make a note of it too!

Other than that, I can't believe you got snow! I guess Connecticut isn't the snowiest state! 🙂

Thanks for sharing your week! I hope you feel better too!

Sorry to hear Buddy isn't feeling well again right now. Might he be able to eat some oatmeal with a bit of sugar? I am pretty sure that is safe for dogs, as it is a natural food, and I know it is basically a carb rich food. I also can't believe you still have snow! Over in Florida it is about 93 degrees, with intermittent rain, and it's humid as all get out. Maybe you and I can switch houses for a week, and you can get a suntan, while I cool off!

Snow is insane at this time of year! We are about to sweat to death down here…my pool water is 90 degrees!

I say a prayer for little Buddy every time I think of him. And you too. Hang in there Dar!

I can't believe you have snow, and I have the AC on… and I'm in Canada.

Guess no one will call us the Cold Capital anymore… lol.

Love the picture of Buddy and Grandpa! The snow is crazy! Maybe some barley mixed in with some of Buddy's meat might be good? My mom always says that barley is good for the tummy. I have Souvenir in my bookcase. I'll have to dig it out and read it! I think of you and Buddy often and am keeping you both in my prayers.

Buddy looks so cute with your dad! I wish I could send some of our heat your way – it was in the 90's at lunch time already.

Have you ever tried yogurt with Buddy? The bacteria in it is great for finicky digestive systems, human and canine.

May snow! That's so foreign to me. LOL

I am so sorry things haven't been going well for Buddy. My heart goes out to him and to you. I hope you are feeling better too, Darlene. I definitely understand the stress a sick pet can cause. We love them so much and worry for them so. Anya's had so many ups and downs the last couple of months . . . It's taken a lot out of me.

I hope you have a great week.

Love the picture of Buddy and Grandpa – that definitely needs to be in a frame somewhere. Snow at this time of year is just wrong! I sure hope that is the end of it. Thanks for the update… I've been thinking of you and Buddy.

Snow in May is nuts! Do you think the abrupt change in temp sent your RA into overdrive? I hope you and Buddy feel better this week. Please take care and thanks for posting the pics. {{hugs}} to you both.

Oh wow, snow? You must be tired of that already…lol.
It's in the 80s here and summer seems to have arrived.
Awwwww…Buddy! Cute as always. He looks like a stuffed toy. He's very cute peeking out of grandpas coat.
I am praying for Buddy to get well.
As far as carbs, what about pasta or oatmeal? Diego won't eat rice either.

Buddy reminds me a lot of my cockapoo KC. She is definitely my book buddy. Every time I lie on the couch to read, she jumps up and sits on me. She is such a little lover bug.

Sorry to hear about Buddy's illness. I know how hard it must be as I know he means the world to you.

Hey Ms. Darlene. I'm sorry to hear that Buddy hasn't been eating very well. My heart continues to go out to you and the little guy. I'm sorry I haven't responded to your email–I've been battling with my own demons–but I did want to say that I understand what you mean about not really wanting to put forth the effort anymore. It's tough, but just remember that there are so many people here who love you–that might help continue to get you through.

And boo to snow in May!!
