Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
My pick this week is A Secret Kept by Tatiana de Rosnay which releases September 14, 2010 by St. Martin’s Press. I read Sarah’s Key and absolutely loved it so I’m really looking forward to more from this author. Here’s a bit about the book from Amazon.com:
It all began with a simple seaside vacation, a brother and sister recapturing their childhood. Antoine Rey thought he had the perfect surprise for his sister Mélanie’s birthday: a weekend by the sea at Noirmoutier Island, where the pair spent many happy childhood summers playing on the beach. It had been too long, Antoine thought, since they’d returned to the island—over thirty years, since their mother died and the family holidays ceased. But the island’s haunting beauty triggers more than happy memories; it reminds Mélanie of something unexpected and deeply disturbing about their last island summer. When, on the drive home to Paris, she finally summons the courage to reveal what she knows to Antoine, her emotions overcome her and she loses control of the car.
Recovering from the accident in a nearby hospital, Mélanie tries to recall what caused her to crash. Antoine encounters an unexpected ally: sexy, streetwise Angèle, a mortician who will teach him new meanings for the words life, love and death. Suddenly, however, the past comes swinging back at both siblings, burdened with a dark truth about their mother, Clarisse.
Trapped in the wake of a shocking family secret shrouded by taboo, Antoine must confront his past and also his troubled relationships with his own children. How well does he really know his mother, his children, even himself? Suddenly fragile on all fronts as a son, a husband, a brother and a father, Antoine Rey will learn the truth about his family and himself the hard way. By turns thrilling, seductive and destructive, with a lingering effect that is bittersweet and redeeming, A Secret Kept is the story of a modern family, the invisible ties that hold it together, and the impact it has throughout life.
Wow, I think this is going to be another great one by Tatiana de Rosnay! I can’t wait to read it. How about you? What are you waiting on this week?
I still need to read Sarah's Key! I have heard so many good things about it, and I own it, but just need to read it.
I also need to read Sarah's Key and now I'll have to put this one on my wish list-great reads!
NO pink blog?? LOL I like this one too Dar!
This book goes on my wish list as well.
This is going on my list! Read Sarah's Key with my book club -it was a popular choice and we had a great discussion.
I read Sarah's Key, and while I liked it, I felt it was out of balance because I really only wanted to hear about Sarah but not Julia! Despite this, Rosnay does a good job of revealing horrible secrets, which sounds like she is doing here as well. I'll have to see if my library is going to carry the audio.
Thanks for the heads up on this book. I read Sarah's Key this past spring and loved it. Can't wait to read this, too.
This does sound good! I've read mixed reviews of Sarah's Key, and I am looking forward to hearing more about this new book.
I haven't heard of this author before, but the book sounds great!
I imagine a lot of people will be waiting for this book – I bet it's wonderful.
Holy cow..I'm excited!! I loved Sarah's Key so I can't wait to read this one. Great pick!
I like the idea of the brother and sister story. It sounds really good. I have not read Sarah's Key either so I should try it too.
I loved Sarah's Key, and this sounds good as well. Thanks for spotlighting this book, Dar!
Although I have Sarah's Key, I have yet to crack that one open. I know everyone raved about it…so this one is probably going to soar. Thanks.
Good wow pick, Dar 🙂
I have not read Sarah's Key and I like family sagas so this should be up my street.
I heard and read many good things about Sarah's Key too!
I haven't read Sarah's Key and didn't realize these were related but the cover made me immediately think of Sarah's Key. So long to wait until September!
I loved Sarah's Key too and was hoping she'd have another book soon. Now, I see she does! I'm so glad I checked this out.
Last evening I went with my sister to walk her cockapoo, Angel, on the beach and her curly coat reminded me of Buddy. Hope he's doing okay!
Oh, I haven't read Sarah's Key yet and this one sounds great too.
Oh! Good find Darlene. I haven't read Sarah's Key yet either, but it's on my long neglected shelf. Thanks for the reminder.
