2010 Challenges Wrap Up: One’s I did OK on and One’s I’ve Given Up On

December 4, 2010 by Darlene

It’s that time of the year to wrap up challenges for me. This past year has been a rough one for me to keep up with my reading therefore I didn’t do as well as I would have liked.

After finding out Buddy was sick in April, many things were put on the backburner and I’m ok with that. It was important to me to spend as much time with him as I could and that’s what I did, essentially just reading when he slept. 2010 is a year better forgotten for me as I miss my little Buddy a lot so I’m just going to wrap things up early and look forward to next year.

My plans for next year are only going to be challenges I set for myself – I feel like trying something different and plus if I don’t succeed then I won’t have to feel as guilty for not meeting all the challenges I join. So far I’m going to set myself up for a Harry Potter Challenge, the Sookie books, the Outlander series and there are a few other series that I have that I plan on challenging myself too. If anyone out there will want to join me that would be awesome.

Here are the challenges that I did succeed at – the only one I didn’t complete fully was the 100+ reading challenge. Here is how I did:

1. 2010 Young Adult Reading Challenge: I committed myself to reading 12 books and I actually read 16 so yaaaaay! for me. You can see the books I read here.

2. ARC Reading Challenge 2010: I chose to read 25 or more ARCs and I more than exceeded that at reading 69. I knew that this one was challenge I would meet. You can see my list of books read here.

3. Romance Reading Challenge: I committed to reading 5 books and I ended up reading 14 so another challenge met. You can see my reading list here.

4. 2010 Chunkster Challenge: I committed to reading 6 or more chunksters and I read 9. A chunkster is classed as being 450 pages or more but I had a couple of books that were 448 pages and I figure that’s good enough. You can see my list here.

5. Historical Reading Challenge 2010: For this challenge I committed to reading 6 books and ended up reading 16 so another challenge met. You can see my reading list here.

6. E-book Reading Challenge: I knew I would do well on this one and had no worries about meeting my commitment level of 20 eBooks. I ended up reading 35 books and you can see that list here.

7. 100+ Reading Challenge: Well of course this is to read 100 or more books in the year. So far as of December 31 I’m at 87 books. It’s safe to say I will not make 100 this year but there is always next year. You can see my complete list of books read so far here.

And, here are the challenges I did not succeed on at all…

The Tudor Book Challenge
Vietnam War Reading Challenge 2010
Gilmore Girls Reading Challenge
Outlander Reading Challenge 2010
Random Reading Challenge
Sookie Stackhouse Challenge

So, I’m already looking forward to next year and my own reading commitments. So how has everyone else done on their challenges? I really look forward to seeing everyone’s recaps this year.

Well, all things considered, I think you did great! Challenges are just for fun, so you shouldn't feel bad about those you didn't finish.

I love the puppy reading the book!

I think you did a great job with all that happened last year.
I know you did way better than me.
Reading should be fun anyway. Quality not quantity.

I think you did really well under the circumstances. I am abandoning all reading challenges too and not bothering next year. I hope to set my own too. Here is too a happy new year for you, your family and your new addition, Sammy.

You've had a lot on your plate this year, and finishing reading challenges should be the least of your worries. You did good, though. Hope you'll consider joining the U.S. Civil War Challenge next year.

I like the idea of self-challenges and may do that myself. I know it has been a tough year for you and hope 2011 will be easier – how could it not with adorable Sammy at your side 🙂

I think you did a great job on the challenges. I'm still going to sign up next year but we'll see how well I do on them!!

You managed to read A LOT! I am sorry that 2010 has been so rough and hope that 2011 is full of good things for you. I challenged myself to read the Harry Potter series this past year and it was a great experience and something I am so glad I did. I haven't thought of any personal challenges for this year, except to keep from signing up for too many. I failed quite a few of mine and dumped some here at the end as I was not enjoying my reading. I hope to read more of whatever suits me at the moment this next year.

I think you did great on your challenges! I took a peek at mine and decided I didn't do so well on most of them except the ARC challenge. I hope 2011 will be a year of only good things for you! By the looks of Sammy, you will have a very busy year! He's a busy little guy!

I love the self-challenge idea! I didn't do all that well with challenges this year and I signed up for some in 2011 already. I'm not going to sign up for as many as I usually do and see how it goes.

I think you did great Dar. I finished maybe two challenges this year. Next year I don't htink I'm joining more than that myself. Theres just no enough time.

You did great on your challenges, Dar! I think I'll still participate in a few challenges next year, but my priority will still be reading the books on my TBR pile first. 😉

Wow, Dar, you did great. Really over achieved on the ARC challenge! It sounds like a good idea to just challenge yourself. I'm only doing 2 challenges – that's enough for me as I am still trying to get to the bottom of the book piles around here.

I think you did quite well, all things considered. I totally sucked at most of my challenges, even the one I started myself. That takes the cake, huh?
Oh well, better luck in 2011 and I'm sure you'll be fine 🙂

Thanks for your comments everyone. I went through my books in my head and realized I have many that are part of a series.

I wrote all those down and there are way too many to do them all in a year so I think I'll pick some and go with those.

I wrote them all down on my challenge page if you want to take a peek. If anyone has any interest in joining me on any of them, send me an email and I'll make sure to pick that as one for the New Year.
