Well friends it’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Sunday Ramblings. No excuse really. I just couldn’t seem to find the energy to get one written out. I’m back suffering my migraines and they really drain me. However, this week I am putting my foot down and getting a post written.
There hasn’t been a whole lot going on in the life of me. It’s winter here and we Canadians tend to hibernate in the winter – well at least some of us do and I’m one of them. Our temperatures have taken a serious tumble downwards in the last few weeks and it’s just so, so cold. You can’t go outside without full winter duds or you’ll find your skin freezing within minutes. Again, I have to wonder why I continue to live here – oh yeah, family and friends! Anyhow, at least we haven’t gotten any more huge dumps of snow but I’ll tell you spring and summer can’t come fast enough for this girl.
On the reading front I’m currently reading Love, Love, Love by Deborah Reber. It’s a young adult novel and really cute so far – I’m enjoying it. I’m also reading The Tudor Secret by C.W. Gortner for his blog tour with Pump Up Your Book and really enjoying that one – the Tudors are always my favorite to read about. This week is a busy one here at Peeking Between the Pages – here’s the lineup as it stands now:
Tuesday – I hope my review of Love, Love, Love by Deborah Reber (this may not happen)
Wednesday – I hope a guest post with Deborah Reber (won’t happen if I don’t finish book)
Thursday – review of The Tudor Secret by C.W. Gortner
Friday – guest post with C.W. Gortner
Whew! I get tired just looking at that. What I do know is I’d best get down to some serious reading. lol. Thank goodness both books are really good and have captured my ever wandering attention.
On the Sammy front things are going much better. He is becoming much more behaved everyday, thank goodness. He can still be a little terror at least a few times a day but now he is much more prone to actually listening. I had him at the vets last week and he said Sammy was chubby so I said he isn’t fat though and my vet looked at me, laughed, and said yes he is. lol. It’s ok though because he’s a puppy and up to 2 years he’s still growing into himself. He’s already 18 lbs though and he’s a heavy little guy.
I’m finding that Sammy and me are forming a bond now. I think at first I expected so much because I missed the Budster so terribly. I talked with a girl at the vets that I had become friendly with when taking Buddy and she said that you have to give it time. I had Buddy for so long that he was just another piece of me. So will Sammy be that; he’s already getting there but it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience and just being together. He’s definitely my puppy though. He follows me around absolutely everywhere except when he’s off getting in trouble chewing a baseboard or something and he cries up a terrible storm when I’m not around. I love him so much that it scares me especially after Buddy but I know I can’t live thinking like that. I just have to enjoy now and love my Sammy Bear.
So, I’m off to do some reading and have some more coffee but not before I leave you with a few pictures of Sammy. He desperately needs a haircut but with our cold weather I haven’t yet. It’s just too cold. Hopefully soon the weather will break and I’ll see what kind of a mess I can make. lol. So what are all of you up to today? I hope whatever it is that you are having a wonderful and relaxing day!
Enjoy…

Aww Dar, he is just so cute! I love the belly pic. The lady at the vets is right, it will take time. We all know how much you loved Buddy and it will take time to be able to love Sammy the same way. Big hugsx
Sammy looks like a bear skin rug in that one picture! I know you will always miss buddy, he's in your heart, and no dog can replace that.
Thurs and Fri here were in the upper 50's! Then – BAM – yesterday we got 6" of snow and it is 16. Snowin like crazy right now!
Buddy will always be in your heart but I think he may have guided you to Sammy. Who couldn't love him. Wow 18 lbs! He's your little "big" guy. Sammy's cute. I can't say I miss the puppy stage with Cooper. We bought him for the kid but I think he's the family dog. I think he depends on each of us for different things.
Hope to get some reading done today.
I love the pic of your dad and Sammy 🙂
That picture of him all stretched out is precious! I know it is very difficult to bond with a new pet when you have lost one that was such a huge part of your life. Just like with people, it takes time to get to know each other. Sorry about the cold weather…come down to visit us in Florida! It was 82 yesterday!
We don't have the kind of cold you do, but I'm ready for spring too!
That looks Sammy's giving you in the second picture actually reminds me of Buddy!
Hope your migraines ease up soon! Sammy is such a cutie! I wish Fia would learn to listen 🙂
Glad to hear things are going so well with Sammy… what a little cutie! Hope your migraines aren't as bad this week.
He has grown – in size and hair! LOL We had a reprieve from the cold, but it is on the way back.
Sammy is SOOO cute! I just love these pictures. We have rain here but at least it is starting to look like spring is on its' way. Both of the books you are reading sound really good and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these. Have a great week!
Lol, Sammy looks so cute while sleeping 😀 And he has sure grown
I love those flat dog poses! Such a cutie. The one with your dad is precious too.
Sammy is just so darn cute Dar! My Jake likes to sleep on his back like that too. Looks very funny since he is a 70 pound dog! The weather is not nice either. I hear you on the hibernating. This time of year the snow gets to be old. Looking forward to spring too! Until then I am happy in the house with a book!
Ha ha on me, my comment showed up funny so I deleted it, just want to say that your new doggy is adorable, and I like the photo of your two favorite guys.
Your blog schedule sounds busy this week. I am giving away one copy of a book this week, and posted my review of it "The Upside of Downsizing", on my blog.
Great pictures! I totally know what you mean about being afraid to love someone too much! Very, very scary!!!
So cute! I lost my dog a few years ago and still haven't taken the plunge and got another one. It is partly that where I am living right now is so small, but it is also some issues with getting another dog after losing my other one. I am sure I would be fine when it happens, but I just keep putting it off.
Migraines are such nightmares. I'm sorry you've been having to battle them, Darlene. I am glad though to hear that things are going well with Sammy. He's such a cutie. I let Riley have a sleepover at my friend's house the night before last to see how he'd do around her three dogs. She's going to take him for a couple of days when I go into labor (I don't want him home alone–cats or no–overnight). He did great and made a few new friends.
I hope you have a great week, Darlene!
I love seeing pics of Sammy, he's precious! It's so nice to see a pic of your dad, too. That's great how he's carrying Sammy! Sammy looks so small in your dad's arms. It's wonderful that you and Sammy are bonding so well. He couldn't have a better "mom".
You are reading some interesting books especially the one about The Tudors! Busy week for you, I hope it pans out.
I'm sorry about your migraines, Dar! I hope they stop and you feel better.
Both Daddy and Sammy are very cute! Here in eastern Ontario, we had a super warm day on Friday; it actually hit 48 degrees F. Sorry but I can't think in C degrees. Yesterday, I almost froze to death just going between the car and the shops. But spring is about one month away!!!
What a cutie! You enjoy yourself! I know what you mean about missing Buddy and expectations of Sammy. I did that myself after losing my first fur baby Awesome. We still had his sister Kasha, who was 8 years old. We brought BJ home to keep Kasha company, and they hated each other! And he just took over the house and my heart. I saw so much of Awesome in BJ, but eventually BJ became his own little self. BJ is 12 now, a little slower but still my baby! Every day is made special when he gives me a little smile!
Thanks for sharing about Sammy! And I hope you feel better soon! Migraines are the worst!
Oh honey I do hope your migraines get better. Sammy is adorable as usual and I am so happy you posted pictures of him and your dear dad! Love to you honey. Let me know if I can help you in any way from afar.
Dar! I got your message last night while I was out for dinner, and have to say thank you so very much for calling me on my birthday! It wasn't the greatest day, so your call really turned everything around for me. Thank you, my friend.
I am glad to hear that Sammy is learning to control himself a little better and is starting to listen, but am sorry that you have been going through so many migraines. I know that is rough, and that you can get quite sick when you have them.
I hope that you begin to feel better soon, and when you get the chance, give me another call or pop me an email!
Have a great week ahead!
I passed an award on to you! Here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/49g9tje
Congrats!

I hope that it warms up for you soon…spring can't get here soon enough for me either! Love the pictures of Sammy and the one of your favorite men, great picture of Sam and your dad.
Sorry to hear about the migraines. One of the gals that works for me suffers from them severely; it's not uncommon to have her need to leave suddenly. I get them periodically; they really do take it out of you for days at a time. Glad to hear that Sammy is getting better behaved–he sure is adorable!
I hope the weather warms up soon, Dar! Our weather has been rather unpredictable for the past few weeks (sunny now and rain storm the next) and I wonder what's up with Mother Nature.
Sammy looks adorable as always! Thanks so much for sharing the pics with us! 🙂
Hi Dar. Lovely post. Cute pics of Sammy and your dad too.
Enjoy your week and I hope the migraines get better.
love the pic of your two 'boys'!
Dar-he is adorable-I know what you mean about loving too much. I have had strange feelings of guilt that I forgot my other cat and worrying about silly things like that. We love all of them for different reasons. He does not look like an 18 pound dog.
Enjoy being able to pick him up while you can.

Oh my gosh, Sammy is adorable, especially in that first photo!
I'm glad you're okay, I was wondering how come there weren't Sunday ramblings over here in a while 🙂
Can't wait for that C.W. Gortner interview (just finished reading 'The last queen' and have 'The confessions of Catherine de Medici' next in line)
Have a wonderful week!
Hope you are feeling better!
Love the pics of Sammy, and him and your dad. Glad that he's growing up abit and listening to you now.
They are such a comfort to have around and so much fun too.
First off that pic of your Dad and Sammy is adorable!! Your two sweeties in one shot.
As far as your weekly schedule, I totally hear you on that. It can be very overwhelming at times. Hang in there 🙂
I hope the migraines are easing up, I know how debilitating they can be.
I love the picture of your Dad and Sammy! You should seriously frame it. I don't have any photos of my dad with any of my dogs but I hope he is playing with them where ever they are. I miss my dad, so I,m a tad jealous.
Sammy is so adorable! I like all the pictures. I never get the chance to experience that type of cold here where I'm living. It's hot (and wet) all year round!
