Sunday Ramblings & Pictures of Sammy

May 1, 2011 by Darlene

Hi everyone! What have you all done with your weekend – anything exciting or fun? I wish I could say I did but no such luck. I got hit with a headache yesterday and that pretty much ruined my day. I wasn’t even able to get much reading done and I have a lot I need to get finished for the coming week.

Nothing really happening around here yet. I’m still waiting for warm weather. It’s still cold and seems windy most of the time which would be ok if it was a warm wind. We are seeing patches of green grass trying to make an appearance now though. It’s so nice to get out in the yard again and not be stepping on piles of snow. I’m thinking of getting my knitting out again and trying to work on some projects I have. The last time I did Sam still thought the yarn was a plaything so I put it away. He’s gotten a lot better in the last month so I was thinking it might be safe to try now.

As for Sammy, he’s still a terror. Granted he is listening a lot better, but he still gets into everything. He gets things in his mouth and starts chewing faster than I can get them out. He was chomping on something on our walk yesterday and I have no idea what. I found after I started walking him, his behavior seemed to get better. Maybe more energy burnt means better behaved pup. lol. I’m thinking of getting some roller blades though and just letting him pull me because wow, does he truck along at a good pace. Thank God I had lost all that weight before I got him or I’d never have been able to keep up with him. As it is he pretty much just pulls me along. I’m trying to teach him not to pull but as with everything with a puppy you have to keep persevering to get it accomplished because as of yet he hasn’t caught on.

So the big news is I took him to the groomer. We just went to Pet Smart and they did a really good job. I tried a few more times to get him done and once he jumped right off the table and the rest of the time he would just sit down and push back into me, being scared of the clippers. So I figured I’d give them a try and they succeeded. Apparently he howled for the first while and then finally calmed down. He was going through some separation anxiety too. He trails after me everywhere at home and when I leave he howls at the top of his puppy lungs. So, he came home and seemed no worse for the wear so we’ll keep going back. They had to clip him fairly short because he did have some matts – his hair was awfully long already. Here are a few pics of the little monster.

If I look a little ticked off in this picture, I am. Mommy keeps trying to put this coat on me. And yes I’m cold – I was doing this weird shivering thing this morning – but still! Why does she insist on trying to dress me all the time? Well I got her cause I can get my paws out all by myself! (From mommy – This very lovely sweater is from his Auntie Carla – thank you Auntie Carla. She was nice enough to make him some very lovely sweaters and some bandanas and we thank her very much. He won’t have a choice but to wear them in the winter if I have to tape it to his fur – lol.)
Acccccccccccck!!! I’m naked now! What happened to that lovely fur coat I was wearing just the other day? I’m cold! I’m pretty cute though! (From mommy – isn’t he tiny now? lol – he’s still heavier than the dickens though)

On the reading front it’s going to be a busy week here at Peeking Between the Pages. Right now I’m reading The Sandalwood Tree by Elle Newmark and it is good just as I expected it would be. I’m also reading Secret Daughter by Shilpa Somaya Gowda which is fantastic so far. I expect to have two glowing reviews this week since I’m enjoying both books. Here is the week so far:

Monday: The Sandalwood Tree by Elle Newmark book review.
Tuesday: Guest Post/Giveaway with Elle Newmark.
Wednesday: Book Spotlight/Giveaway for I’d Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman.
Thursday: Secret Daughter by Shilpa Somaya Gowda book review.
Friday: Probably a Friday Finds post.

I’d love to get caught up on my reading so I can maybe get ahead on next week. We’ll have to see how today goes. My head is still a bit sore so that will determine how much reading gets done. I wish it was already warmer so I could read outside. How about you – what are you reading this week?

Well that’s it for this week folks. I can’t believe it’s already May. Time sure has been flying by. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and thanks for stopping by and sharing a piece of mine.

Thanks for the Sammy fix. He's a character. I believe he has a distant cousin named Cooper. Lol
I'm reading The Violets of March & The Informationist. One day I hope to get around to The Secret Daughter. School is whining down and I look forward to a summer of reading.

Doesn't Sammy look so cute??? Love this pics! I'm not sure how you keep up with all of your reading…I'm pretty far behind with no hope of catching up. I just keep plugging away though πŸ™‚ Hope you have a wonderful week and the weather takes a turn for the better!

I can so relate to your grooming story; my dog has always put up such a fuss that I don't know who is more anxious, him or me! Finally, I seem to have hit on a place where he is somewhat relaxed about it, and they get him done in under two hours, which is great.

I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying The Sandalwood Tree; I thought it was wonderful, and I am looking forward to your guest post with the author on Tuesday.
Hope your headache clears up soon πŸ™‚

This week has flown by for us Darlene and the weekend as well… The only excitement I have to report will not take place until June when I have reservations to go to Dallas/Ft.Worth area authors Tea and get a chance to meet Nalini Singh, Dakota Cassidy, Jaye Wells and some others and also get a Hardback Copy Of Kiss Of Snow from Ms. Singh… That will keep me excited until it happens and beyond!

Sammy is as usual adorable, feel better and keep on enjoying those books when you can get to them!
I will gladly send you some warm weather, it is springtime and already this past two weeks in the high 90's everyday!

    Dear Sammy,

You are a DARLING, and I am loving your new groomed look. Tres chic, I tell you! πŸ˜‰ Stop terrorizing your mommy, and give her some credit – she's not just trying to accessorize, you know, she's just trying to keep you warm, and get you some "ooohs" and "aaahs" for you from her followers, which you rightly deserve coz you're so darn ADORABLE! πŸ™‚

    Dear Sammy's Mommy,

I hope your headache is better. The upcoming week looks amazing, and I'm REALLY looking forward to Wednesday, as I love Laura Lippman and her work! πŸ˜€

Much love to the both of you,

Could it be that spring is finally springing it's way towards you?? I hope that is the case and that you start seeing a lot more green over there! I know also that my dogs need to have a walk everyday, because if they don't they are just little terrors to live with. The big dog actually needs to pull my husband around the block a few times while he is riding the bike BEFORE he gets a half hour walk. Now that's some serious energy to burn off! Buddy is looking adorable, as usual. Glad you were finally able to get him groomed.

Sammy does look a bit sheepish in those photos as if he has been caught naked. I saw beautiful dog coats at Pet Valu this week – for small dogs and the nicest one is PINK. Pink for Sammy; he should love that.
It has been like summer for the last two days and I managed to get a lot of gardening done, with a lot more to do. Still haven't spread the manure and straw on the large garden but managed to get rid of the old perennial stalks.
Had to go to Tim Hortons today to reward myself for working so hard.
Hope you have a nice week.

Aww, Sammy looks so cute! We got back from Florida late last night and found the snow had finally melted. Looks like spring has arrived – hope you get some warm weather soon, too. Zelda had a bath this weekend, and wasn't happy about it at all!

Enjoy and feel better. Have a great week! πŸ™‚

You know what they say, you have to be the boss! LOL. I know, easier said than done. I am so lucky Chloe is submissive to us. She tries to assert herself sometimes, but I give her a stern look and she cowers, belly-up. Wish my kids did that.

Chloe pulled when we walked, but then I stopped every time she pulled and now she gets it.

Sending some of my vacation weather your way sweetpea! Summer will be here soon. Pull out some of that knitting too. It's never too late for a summer shawl. Have a good week and give Sammy a tummy rub for being so cute πŸ™‚

Love his hair cut! What a character he is! Sorry about your migraine. What an awful way to spend your Saturday. My sister used to get them so bad that she had a shot she had to administer to herself. Once she got off the pill and went through menopause, though, they stopped. What a relief, she said!

    Have a good week!

It's always great to see Sammy whether it's Sunday or not! Sammy you are a handsome little devil! Maybe you can just lay down and curl up with your sweater. Would that be ok by you?

Hope your head feels better Darlene. Those really knock you down. I don't have migraines but when I have a headache sometimes chocolate helps. (Go figure.)

Your books this week sound great. Will look forward to your thoughts.
Glad your weather is getting better. Good for you on the knitting!

Sammy is just adorable, he looks so cute with his haircut πŸ™‚ and he's getting so big! Or at least that's what it seems like looking back on the photos.

Hope you're doing well, take care! *hugs* and to Sammy too πŸ™‚
