Sunday Ramblings & Videos of Sammy

May 22, 2011 by Darlene

Happy Sunday! Wow this week sure did pass by fast! What has everyone been up to this weekend? Summer has pretty much arrived here now and the wind has settled down thankfully. It’s been pretty hot the last week or so – really more muggy I would say. I keep waiting for a good storm but so far nothing. I’m curious to see how Sammy is going to react to thunder especially. Buddy never really cared although sometimes he’d bark.

The flowers and the garden are planted. What a chore it is to convince Sam that flowers and dirt are not a food group. I can’t believe how much this dog loves to put things in his mouth. The second he gets outside he’s got his nose down and something in his mouth – half of which I can’t even see until he digs it out of the lawn. We put up a pretty little fence around the garden but he’s sticking his nose right through the railing so I can just imagine how fun it’ll be when things start growing.

On the reading front I’m working on getting Elizabeth I by Margaret George finished for Friday and it’s a humdinger of a book. So far it’s pretty interesting but I haven’t gotten really far into it either yet. I’m also reading Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy for my Reading Cove book club and so far I’m not liking it much at all. I’m still pluggin along with it and while it’s ok, it seems to be more a bunch of short stories that to me aren’t making sense and certainly don’t seem to go together. So, it’s going to be another busy week at Peeking Between the Pages though. Here’s the rundown:

Monday – Book Spotlight/Giveaway with Eric Van Lustbader, author of First Daughter and Blood Trust
Tuesday – Guest Post/Giveaway with Aine Greaney, author of Dance Lessons
Wednesday – Buddy’s would be Birthday, Guest Post/Giveaway with Diane Chamberlain, author of The Midwife’s Confession
Thursday – Guest Post/Giveaway with Deborah Cloyed, author of The Summer we Came to Life
Friday – review of Elizabeth I by Margaret George

Yup, I better get started on those guest posts already – this should definitely keep me busy this week. What about all of you? What are you reading? Anything exciting going on with your blog this week?

As for Sammy I don’t think I have any cute Sammy stories this week. He’s back in his I don’t want to eat stage. He drives me crazy with that. He eats for a few days, then doesn’t for a few days. Makes no sense to me. He’s a funny little guy though and he loves to snuggle which I love. His newest thing is to jump on my leg to pick him up and he does it often; then he lays his head on my shoulder and makes himself very comfortable. It’s very cute but lets all keep in mind that Sammy is 20 lbs. The good thing is my flabby arms are disappearing – lol. This week I managed to get a few videos of him having a jolly good time chasing his tail. The first one is pretty short and the second one a bit longer. He stopped in between so I thought I might as well post them both. You might want to turn your volume down as I’m talking some baby talk to Sammy to get him to look at the camera at the end. lol. Enjoy…

Well that’s it for this week. I hope you enjoyed Sammy and his little antics. May you all have a great Sunday and week!

Silly doggy! He is still such a puppy. You can see it in his eyes, the need to be exploring! I'm glad it has warmed up for you, but of course now I'm wishing it were cold again. I can't even walk thirty feet outside without sweating.

You have a big week ahead on your blog, Dar! I've heard good things about Elizabeth but MG's books are huge! I read the ones about Cleopatra and Helen of Troy. I'll look forward to your review. Thanks for sharing the Sammy videos 🙂

Cute Sammy!! You sure have a busy week ahead! I think I do too – I'm at least going to be absent this weekend, so I need to plan for two weeks. Yikes!

Happy Sunday, Dar! Sammy is a darling! I can't wait to read all the posts you have lined up for the week. I'm thinking to read a thriller this coming week. Definitely in the mood for one.

So Sammy has decided to be a gardener, huh? Well, I am sure there are more destructive things he could be doing! I am glad to hear that the wind dies down over there and that the sun has come out. I know it has been a rather long winter and spring for you. I hope you have an amazing week over there, and that Sammy gives you just a bit of a break!

Milou put everything in her mouth when she was young too. It looks like you don't need to buy Sammy any toys since he has his tail to play with!

I'm lucky Diego doesnt bother with my flower garden, he does stand in between with the flowers, but he doesnt dig them up or chew.

My dog was a chewer as a pup too – that goodness that destructive phase is over!

I did enjoy Whitethorn Woods. I remember somethign about hwo each story had a charcetr from teh previous story in it so that was what connected them – wonder if I am remembering that correctly! (may be sedning you on a goose chase looking for connections!)

How cute that Sammy puts his head on your shoulder! I hope he doesn't want you to pick him up too much longer considering he weighs 20lbs now!

I haven't read Maeve Binchy in a few years but usually her books are enjoyable so I'm sorry to hear the one you're reading isn't. I expect Elizabeth I is probably pretty interesting, at least I hope so!

Wow, you have a busy week! That's great!

Didn't you have snow just a few weeks ago? Your weather changes quickly. I hope you enjoy it!

    Darlene,
Enjoyed Sammy's gymnastics. At the end of one video, seems like he is looking out the window checking the action outdoors. As for the garden, when we first moved here there was a large rabbit who used to yank everything out of the garden when I planted new things. He would do that once, just to check on its eatability I guess.
    Have a good week

I do not understand the chasing your tail to bite on it thing that dogs do. That has to hurt! I can't believe he's 20 lbs already; how big will he get?

    Love Sammy. 🙂

Sammy is such a cutie cutie cutie! I love watching him chase hid tail, that is so funny. Why do dogs and cats do that?
I am going to go and help my daughter plant her garden today.
She (my daughter) has just started a new book blog! Please check it out, she know all about you! –

Oh my goodness those videos are hilarious!! He is such a little doll! When Lexi was a puppy she used to chase around the laser pen–of course it was always more fun with Maggie who would actually jump on the walls trying to get the red dot!

Look forward to your thoughts on Elizabeth I! Have a great week sweetie.

Sammy is such a cutie. He's so big!

My pup was barfing this morning. I'd be more worried if she were an outdoor dog but she never goes outside so I know she could not have gotten into anything.

She ate some this morning and played like normal so I wonder if her tummy was just upset.

You have a busy week coming up, sounds like some heavy duty reading. I have the vet coming on Wednesday to give the horses their yearly shots but if we have rain I might see if he wants to change days.
Love the videos of Sammy, he's such a little actor!

I hope Sammy reacts better to thunder than our little guy; he is so terrified of storms, he jumps at the door constantly I think because he's under the impression that if he leaves the house, he will get away from the storm, poor thing.
He shakes and shakes, and paces until it's over 🙁

Good luck with all you have to get done this week on the blog!

I am so sorry for the late reply to this wonderful post! First of all, wow, you have a great week planned. I am SO excited for "The Midwife's Confession" – I've been DYING to read that book! 😀

Also, my Gosh Sammy's such a DARLING! He totally gives a new meaning to "chasing tail" 😉 And those beautiful & heart-melting eyes, even if they only look towards the camera for a mere moment, are TO DIE FOR!!!! 🙂

I always love cute doggie videos! The eating issue, is that something with the breed, or are you just lucky enough to have dogs who change their mind about eating? My mutt doesn't eat a lot, never did, but she is a champ at begging your food!
I say finishthe M. George book. I am not a fan of short stories, especially when they don't mesh. Like what the heck? Have a great week pumpkin!
