Welcome to Fall here in Canada. The above picture is of a park by my house that Sam and I walk by every day. This was taken on a bit of a cloudy day and then I forgot the camera after that to take a better one. It still looks really nice with the leaves turning and the bench just sitting there and waiting for someone to sit down with a book. I might mention though that it is unlikely that anyone will be sitting and reading a book outside anywhere right now. It has turned quite cold here although on the plus side there is no snow yet so that’s good. When you have winter six months of the year, the later the snow comes, the better. The leaves are now falling quite a bit, the grass is yellowish, and there is a definite feel of wintery bluster in the air. This next picture is the tree out in my front yard. I love the colors this tree turns. We have the exact same tree in the backyard and yet it doesn’t seem to turn colors like this one. These fall pics are for everyone’s enjoyment but especially Trish who wanted to see some of the fall colors here.
Aside from freezing and trying to get used to it not much else has been going on. As I said yesterday I seemed to have picked up a stomach bug and I’m still not feeling the best. I did get some reading done, although not as much as I would have liked to. I’m reading Goddess of Vengeance by Jackie Collins right now and I’m supposed to have a review up tomorrow but I may have to move it to Tuesday. It depends how much reading I get done with a headache. I used to love Jackie’s books and it’s kind of fun to get back into one as it’s quite different from what I normally read now. On another note my dad was in a car accident yesterday. He’s fine but sore as he got rear ended and then he hit the car in front of him. Those of you who pray I’d appreciate a prayer for him to feel better soon.
Here’s the happenings this week on the blog…
Monday – Review of Goddess of Vengeance by Jackie Collins (I hope – maybe Tuesday)
Tuesday – Book Trailer of my friend, author Millenia Black’s book, The Great Pretender
Wednesday – Waiting on Wednesday Post
Thursday – Review of Summer in the South by Cathy Holton
Friday – Review of Space by Emily Sue Harvey
Another fun-filled week at Peeking Between the Pages. I had mentioned yesterday that I am reviewing now for The Book Trib’s Review Crew and I have a few reviews posted there now. You can see my page here if you’d like. The reviews I post there I will re-post about a month later here on my blog.
Now for Sammy – what is a Sunday morning or afternoon without Sam right! He hasn’t done anything this week other than chew a chunk out of the basement stairs. I was sorting laundry and wondering why he was so quiet. I should have known he was up to no good. I come around the corner and there he is gnawing on the corner of the stair. I yell and he just looks up at me all innocent like as if to say ‘What mommy, what did I do now?’ LOL. Here’s a few pictures for your enjoyment of my baby boy…
Really mommy. That gosh darned camera again!
How is a puppy to get his beauty sleep with all that flashing going on mommy???
Isn’t he just adorable! So what is everyone doing today? Did you go anywhere or buy anything exciting? I need to live vicariously through you guys today since I haven’t been too motivated myself. What are you all reading? It can’t hurt to add more to my already huge wishlist. Whatever you’re all doing I hope you’re at least enjoying some time with family, friends, or a good book!
Oh, that Sammy 🙂 I hope you feel much better as the day goes on, Dar. The fall colors are beautiful in your area. We’ve had a lot of wind the past few days so most of the color is now on the ground. There are a few trees with green leaves still so maybe we’ll have a Fall, Part 2.
I’m reading Celia Rivenbark’s You Don’t Sweat Much For A Fat Girl. Also Kristan Higgin’s latest: Until There Was You.
Sending good thoughts your Dad’s way. That must have been quite frightening!
Mary, I am feeling much better this afternoon. The colors here would have been nicer but we’ve had wind as well and those trees not strong enough to hold their leaves lost them. I’ll see if I can still get some more pics before the snow falls. Thanks for the thoughts for Dad. It was quite scary. He’s sore but so far so good. He’s going to the doc tomorrow.
Hey Darlene,
Hope this morning finds you feeling better than yesterday, and I’m holding good thoughts for your dad 🙂
Sammy is a cutie, that’s for sure — are the basement stairs wood? I hope they’re not concrete, otherwise he’ll surely need dental work, lol.
Congrats on the trib review crew!
BookGirl, I am feeling better and thanks for the thoughts for Dad. The stairs are definitely wood – this is an older home. The floors are concrete but not the stairs.
I hope you and your dad are both feeling better!
I had a busy week with 2 author events and a book club meeting.
Sammy is adorable!
Kathy, I am feeling better. Thank you. Dad is sore but so far so good. You sure did have a busy week. I’ve got to get to your blog today yet and see what you’ve been up to.
Fall is such a beautiful time of year! I spent a day with my camera early this week… good thing because it got very windy the last couple of days, so not many leaves are left. I hear the ‘S word’ in the forecast last night – flurries in the air Thursday morning. Let’s hope they are wrong! Have a good week.
JoAnn, fall is beautiful but it also means winter is on the way. I can’t wait to see some of your pictures. It’s such a beautiful area where you are. Yikes, we haven’t had the ‘s word’ in our forecast yet but it has snowed up in the mountains.
Hope all good things come with autumn for you and your family.
I may see Canada sometime in November, but when all the leaves have gone!
Harvee, thanks. What part of Canada would you be coming to? Yes, by November the leaves will be gone – there will probably be snow instead!
I love fall and the months leading into winter other than the sicknesses (is that a word??) that seem to come about. My daughter managed to wake up in the middle of the night and throw up all over my bedroom floor. But she’s fine now so go figure :/ I hope you start to feel better soon! Have a great week.
Sam, it never fails I always get hit with the flu in the winter or coming into it. I’m glad your daughter is feeling good now. I’m feeling much better than I was. Hope you have a good week too.
Your fall colors are beautiful. Our colors were starting to peak but the big winds came and now the pretty colors are all on the ground. I hope you are feeling better and I will be sure to keep your dad and you in my prayers. I hope he is not too sore. Congrats on the trib review crew! That Sammy is so cute! Even when he gnaws on stairs! I am reading Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’easter by Lisa Patton. I just saw a clip of the author on Bermudaonion’s website. I am loving both the author and the book!
Beth(bookaholicmom), we had wind too here so a lot of our leaves fell off as well. That tree in our front yard is a strong one – it holds onto it’s leaves. Thanks for keeping Dad in your prayers.
Thank heavens your dad didn’t get more than sore! Hope you two are back up to speed soon!
Jill, I agree. He is pretty sore and will see the doc tomorrow but it could have been so much worse.
We don’t get much of a fall down here in Florida, and I miss that. We go from hot to cold. A cold front went through and for the last two days it is has been mid-80’s! Ha! Hope the bug goes away. Just because we are sick, I know the world doesn’t stop, and we have to keep trudging on. Love the pictures of Sammy and glad to hear your dad is OK.
Sandy, your leaves don’t even change there, do they? I wouldn’t think it’s cold enough. Yup, the world or the work doesn’t stop cause you’re sick. It would help if it would even a little.
Oh, he’s very adorable!
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I will be finishing up the book, The Lady of Bolton Hill by Elizabeth Camden 🙂
Na, thanks. He knows he’s adorable too.
I love the beauty of the fall, but just don’t like the cold weather that follows! I hope you are feeling better. Sammy looks very relaxed in the first picture!
Nise, I am the same as you. Fall is beautiful but it leads to winter. I am feeling better thank you. Yeah, Sammy was pretty laid back there. lol.
Oh, that Sammy is lucky he’s so cute! Will definitely say a prayer for your dad to feel better; glad to hear the accident wasn’t worse.
Lisa, that’s what I always say to Sam – that’s he’s lucky he’s so adorable or he’d really be in trouble. Thanks for the prayers for Dad.
Hi Dar, isn’t this time of year lovely? I like those photos. And Sammy is tooooo cute, I want to squish him 🙂
sorry about your dad, Im glad he is ok. I hope you are feeling better too. There’s all kinds of bugs going around now. It’s not fun.
Enjoy your Sunday 🙂
Naida, yes fall is lovely. I just wish it went back to warm after it. lol. Sammy is definitely squish material – he’s too adorable for his own good. I’m feeling better this afternoon and dad is sore but seems ok otherwise. He’s going to the doc tomorrow. I hope you’re enjoying your day too.
Oh Dar! I am so sorry to hear about your dad and the accident! Rest assured that I will add him to my prayer list. It sounds like it’s been a tough week for you over there, what with the stomach bug and with the weather slowly turning frigid for you. I wish you could be here with me in the warmth! Here’s hoping that this coming week is better for you and the family. Drop me an email sometime when you can!
Heather, thanks for adding papa to your prayer list. I wish I was there in the warmth too! I have got to give you a call let alone an email. lol.
I really should have taken some nice fall pics, the leaves are falling like crazy now :/
Sorry to hear about your dad :/
Linda, I keep thinking today that I should go out and get another of my favorite tree as it’s turned some more and it’s incredible. Too bad you didn’t get any pics. I would have liked to see some from where you are.
Sorry to hear about your dad. Will add him to our prayer chains for a quick recovery!
I too love the pictures of the fall colors. We don’t get much of that in Florida.
Sammy is cute as always. LOVE doggies!!
Vicki, thanks for adding dad to your prayer chains. I appreciate it. Sammy is a cutie for sure!
So glad that your Dad wasn’t seriously hurt! I’ll be praying for him for sure. That tree is gorgeous..our colors are in full peak right now. That nip is in the air for snow but I’m sure that you’ll get it first!I always know that if I can’t hear Daisy then I’m in trouble..or rather, she is!! LOL!! Hope you’re feeling better. Have a great week Friend!
Staci, thanks for the prayers for dad and yes thank God it wasn’t worse. He’s really sore though. You should take some pics of your fall colors. I bet I’ll get snow before you too. lol. Hope you have a good week too my friend.
I love Fall! I just wish we’ve that over here!!
I’m glad your dad is ok, Dar.
Hope you all have a wonderful week ahead! 🙂
Melody, fall is nice. It’s winter that isn’t. I do like the cooler weather and if it would just stay like this I would be pretty happy.
Love the fall colors! We’re starting to get them here. And I hope your dad is Ok. That is always a little scary. And I could totally see Romeo eating our stairs too!! You are so right … a quiet dog is a dog up to no good!
Jenners, I love fall colors too. It’s the snow I’m not fond of and that comes after the fall colors unfortunately. If Romeo gets in half the trouble that Sammy does your hands are going to be full. lol.
Such cute pics Darlene! Sammy is adorable!
Sheila, thanks. Sammy is definitely a cutie. That’s why he gets away with so much.
I also had a stomach bug yesterday and a bit today…ugh …Hope you feel better soon. The foliage isn’t as pretty this year as in the past.
Hope u have a great week Dar.
Diane, hope you’re feeling better. My tummy was still a bit iffy today yet. That was a wicked bug.
Where in Canada are you? I did not like fall when I lived there just for the reason it meant winter was coming. I hope you are and dad are feeling better. Maybe Sammy still is craving Thanksgiving dinner.
Esme, I’m in Alberta. You were in Montreal weren’t you? I feel the same as you did. Fall means winter to me no matter how pretty it may be.
Congrats on the BookTrib review crew! That must be fun. I hope you aren’t having too bad of weather yet. We went to see Alma Katsu read on Saturday, and I posted my recap on Sunday…but other than that we got some more of the new house unpacked…yes, we moved in March, but there are still things in boxes and the study is nearly done…maybe I can actually work up in there soon.
Serena, thanks on the Book Trib. I’m really happy to be reviewing there. The weather isn’t really terrible yet but it’s only a matter of time here. How did I miss your Sunday post? Ok, note to self – must go see that next. As for the boxes, I can believe that. I’m terrible at unpacking but anyhow, you had an excuse – you had Wiggles which was much more important than unpacking.
true, very true.
A chunk? Oh my Sammy must drive you crazy and make you worried because those chunks have to go somewhere!
Congrats on the Book Trib, glad your Dad is ok, and love the fall photos. I feel like you haven’t gotten any summer up there Darlene! have a good week 🙂
Jen, I do worry when I see Sam chewing on something. He’s better now than when he was a puppy but he’s still a little devil with the chewing. We really didn’t have a great summer this year. It was windy or chilly and they’re calling for an extra cold winter. I really hope they’re wrong.
That Sammy likes to keep you on your toes! I caught the Otter Pup chewing on a plastic hanger the other day. At least she knows not to swallow the plastic! She is not normally a chewer but it fell onto her bed so she thought it was a toy!
I hope you feel better today. I had a horrible pain on the right side of my chest yesterday. I thought I was going to have to hit the ER at one point, but it’s totally gone now. I have no idea what it was but I don’t want it to come back. Google said right side pain is Gallbladder related. I certainly hope not.
Ti, Sammy definitely keeps me on my toes. I lost over 40 lbs because of him (and a bit more) but a lot was because of running after him. Sounds like the Otter Pup likes to chew as well.
Isn’t that scary when you get pains like that. I almost get more scared thinking about going to the emergency room. I hope it isn’t gallbladder either – I had mine out years ago. I’m glad that the pain went away!
The tree in your front yard is beautiful! I love the colors.
Congratulations on reviewing for Book Trib, that’s fantastic! I’m going to check out your page after this. I like that site a lot.
Sammy is so adorable! What personality he has…he looks like he’s mugging for the camera!
Amy, I love the colors of that tree too. It’s the only one in the yard that turns so nice. Thanks on the Book Trib – I’m happy to be reviewing over there.
Yeah, Sammy is a cutie, isn’t he. I’m lucky to have him.
I love the fall photos and Sammy is just too adorable!
Carol, I love the fall photos too. Yup Sammy is adorable and he definitely works that angle. lol.
Awwww, thanks for including the pics for me, Darlene. 🙂 I know I’m slow to comment these days but I’m still here reading!
Looks like from the first picture that many of the leaves have already dropped! We don’t have any hint of color yet (and I don’t expect much), but our temps have dropped significantly!
Hope you’re doing well Dar. Give Sammy a cuddle!
Hi Dar! Hope you are feeling better by now. Hope your dad is also, so sorry to hear of his accident.
Love the pics of your area and of course of Sam!
It’s been windy and cold here this week, down to freezing last nite. Warmer today and sunny.
I have a couple books going. Horns by Joe Hill and also the Music Lesson by Victor Wooten.
Hope you and Sam have a great weekend!
I see he’s still in his terrible twos. Hopefully he will grow out of it soon. D.J. finally did, for the most part. I can’t mention in public what he chewed on last time, I can only say he got it from the garbage. LOL!
A stair, that’s pretty ambitious.
