Happy Sunday everyone! Have you all had a good weekend? It hasn’t been too bad here this weekend. It’s most definitely fall though (Trish, I will get you some pics of the trees turning color just as soon as they do- they’ve started but not enough yet). It’s been quite cool, rainy, and foggy all last week but finally on the weekend the sun made an appearance and while it’s cool out it’s still nicer with the sun. I started out the weekend with hopes of getting lots of reading done but as usual I got sidetracked by just about everything else. I’m not impressed with this slump of mine and just have no idea already what to do to get rid of it. It’s not the books because what I’m reading is good so I’m at a loss as to what’s causing it.
As I told you all before our flowers and gardens are pretty much done. The marigolds are still hanging on though but earlier this week I looked out front to find a nice surprise – this rose in full bloom despite the very cool temperatures in the morning. Isn’t it just beautiful?
This week isn’t too busy on the blog thankfully although I do have a few reviews which means I need to get my butt in gear and get reading. Here’s what’s going on…
Monday – Book Spotlight & Giveaway of Recipes for Life by Linda Evans
Tuesday – Review of The Manicurist by Phyllis Schieber
Wednesday & Thursday – nothing planned
Friday – Review of Veronica’s Nap by Sharon Bially
So, not too busy thankfully. How about you – do you have anything coming up on your blog this week? What are you all reading right now?
As for Sammy, well he’s busy as always. I’ve got to book him in for a haircut this week – hopefully it’ll last him till about January. I don’t like cutting him too much in the winter because it’s so cold here and he does have a nice, warm coat and he refuses to wear any kind of clothes so he needs something. I have one little story about him this week. I make my breakfast and then sit in the living room in the morning while he looks out the window. So I brought in my bowl of peaches and toast and went back for my coffee. I come back around the corner and there’s Sam standing up on the table with his front paws lapping up my peaches! He gets into almost everything but that was the first time he snacked on my breakfast. I’ve got a few pictures for your enjoyment this week; not that it was any easier to get a picture but I just sat with the camera pointed at him until I could get some kind of shot. lol.
Oh boy, I’m going to get this bone eaten sooner or later! Of course it would help if mommy wouldn’t keep taking it away and trimming it.
Even better than a bone! A sock!
Ok Mommy, now what can I get into???
That’s it for this week folks. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and get to do something you really want. I’m going to try reading again along with a bit of housework that I keep putting off. See you all in blogland this week!
Oh bless! He ate your breakfast. That is so naughty yet so funny. Can’t wait to see him with his hair cut.
Viv, naughty is right! lol.
Sammy makes me laugh! Vance left some food on an end table one time and when it disappeared, he blamed me. I’m sure you know the real culprit was Milou! I love the picture of Sammy with his bone!
Kathy, yes Milou was the culprit! lol. I’m really going to have to keep an eye on my little monster now. Now that he’s done that once, he keeps putting his paws up there and looking around.
A peach-eating puppy? I wouldn’t think he’d be interested! That is hilarious. I hope your slump ends soon. There is a readathon going on in a couple weeks, maybe that would help.
Sandy, ha – Sammy is interested in absolutely everything and yet some! I’ll be skipping the readathon this year – it’s on the same day as the day I had to say goodbye to Buddy. Not going to be a good day for me I expect.
I love the picture with Sammy and the sock. He sounds like he is a handful but how can you not love that cute face??? LOL! I just love it and I have a feeling that he would get along really well with my crazy kids 🙂 Hope you have a great week!!
Sam, that’s just the problem. It’s impossible to stay mad at him for long because he’s too cute and he sucks up really well. He loves kids so I’m sure he’d have a great time with yours. Hope you have a great week as well.
We’ve found about the only food Bailey doesn’t like is lettuce – therefore, we never leave food unattended, LOL. Sammy’s just normal 😉 And adorable!
I reviewed Recipes For Life yesterday. While I don’t usually read celebrity memoirs I have to say I really enjoyed Linda Evans’ story. And she shared a recipe that I plan to try very soon.
Don’t worry about your slump. I think it happens to most people.
The rose is lovely. Have a great week, Dar. I hope you see lots of the sun.
Mary, I won’t be leaving anything unattended anymore. LOL. There are some things he turns his nose up but not a lot.
Sammy is just so much fun! He always brightens my Sunday!
Jill, I’m glad Sammy brightens your day. He certainly brightens mine!
I can’t believe how much bigger Sammy is getting!! Not a little baby puppy anymore.
I’m sorry about the slump. I’m not reading much anymore–even before baby I just kind of burned out. Too much scheduled reading that it almost took the fun away from it. Hope it gets better.
Look forward to Recipes for Life! Is it a foodie book?
Trish, yes Sammy is big – he’s about 25 lbs now, maybe a bit more. He grew big fast. Recipes for Life is about Linda Evans along with a whole bunch of recipes that look great. I hope to have a review on Thursday for it. Make sure you enter for a copy tomorrow.
I love that last picture of Sammy! Coop likes to try licking our food. Apparently he thinks if he licks it, it’s his. Of course, it often works. Who wants to eat food with dog slobber on it, LOL!
Janel, the rest of the peaches went in the garbage. Who knows where that mouth of his has been. lol.
The rose is gorgeous and Sammy is just (ahem) peachy! Guess you’ll have to guard your breakfast from now on! I’m finishing up THE LADY OF THE RIVERS today so I can post my review this week. I’m really enjoying it and glad to have “discovered” a “new” historical figure to read about. When I’m in a reading slump, I try to just read short fiction. As much as I love to read, sometimes I do have to get my nose out of the books and look around at the “real” world for awhile. Hope you’re back to loving your books again real soon. 🙂
Gwendolyn, I am most definitely guarding my breakfast now. If I leave the room, so does it. lol. I can’t wait to read your review of The Lady of the Rivers. I have that one on my shelf. I hope the slump passes soon. It’s lasted too long.
That rose is gorgeous! It is in the 80’s here this weekend! Crazy weather! They say next weekend will be below average. Maybe Sammy wanted a peaches and cream complexion. Nothing is safe in our house either. I didn’t get much reading done either. I did some housework and gave the dogs baths. I hope we both have a great reading week.
Beth (bookaholicmom), I thought the rose was beautiful too especially this late in the year for us. Our weather is supposed to turn quite chilly after tomorrow. Yeah, nothing is safe in the house with Sammy. He doesn’t have to be watched quite as much as when he was a baby but still if he’s quiet, one had better check out why. lol. I hope we both have a good reading week too.
It sounds like the weather has been a bit nicer over there, which is good, because I know how much you hate the cold. Your rose is just beautiful as well. I just bought my daughter her first rose bush, and it was blooming a nice little red bud just this morning. I am also feeling you with the reading slump. I don’t know when it will go away, or what I can do to make it get better other than just pushing through and keeping myself diligent about it. I hope that you and Sammy have a wonderful week, and also that he keeps his paws off of your breakfast!
Heather, you’re right about me and the cold. Today has been great. Just one light jacket is enough and the sun is shining. I wish it would last but I know it won’t. With the reading slump, that’s what I’m doing too – just plugging away and hoping one day it’ll be gone. LOL on Sammy and his big paws in my breakfast – he’s a little terror this one. Have a great week Heather.
I adore your Sammy. Love the photos of the last roses of summer. Enjoy the week!
Harvee, Sammy loves compliments. lol. I love rose too – it was just so unexpected to see it there and not frozen. I hope you enjoy your week too!
That last picture of Sammy is hilarious…he looks like he’s about to take off after the next thing that moves!
I cannot believe he ate your peaches! Dogs really will eat the strangest things… I shouldn’t talk too much though since I have a cut who adores BBQ potato chips and pancakes with butter and syrup!
Gorgeous rose! Thank you for posting a photo. Your weather sounds like Fall…the weathe we should have but we’re having a few days of summery weather, no humidity though so it’s okay!
I’m so sorry about your reading slump. They’re annoying! I hope yours works itself out soon. I was able to get myself hooked on a good mystery and that finally did the trick.
I hope you have a great week, Dar!
Amy, you are right – Sammy is usually looking for the next thing to take off after. lol.
It’s definitely fall here. Today was quite cool – back to the heavier fall jacket. I got some pictures of one of our trees that’s turning color so I’ll have to post that this weekend. As much as I don’t like fall the tree is really pretty.
Glad you were gifted with the rose! That last picture of Sammy is great!
Nise, I really did feel like that rose was a gift. It just looked so beautiful at the top of the bush like that.
Beautiful shots of the flowers. I’m sure that its going to get cold there. We had a really nice warm weekend and got to take “Wiggles” to the pumpkin patch. She had a great time and picked out some little pumpkins and the big one we’ll carve for Halloween. Sammy sounds like he wanted to share your breakfast…it was nice of you to leave it accessible for him! 🙂
Serena, I bet Wiggles had a great time at the pumpkin patch. It’s so fun to watch little ones experience things for the first time. Ah yes, there will be no more leaving food accessible for Sammy Bear. lol.
Poor Sammy. No more food handouts! LOL Oh she was fascinated by all the giant orange globes and the people running around the local farms. Lots of people watching.
Look at your big Sammy boy!! It makes me realize how much more Romeo has to grow!! I’m thinking of taking him into a groomer to get a trim too. He can barely see with all the hair in his faces! And too funny about him lapping up your peach juice! I guess he has a sweet tooth!
Jenners, yes Sammy is big. I doubt Romeo will get that big – most Havanese don’t. I sent a few pictures to the breeder and she just couldn’t believe it. She suggested a diet and no treats. lol. The thing is he really isn’t fat – he’s just big!
Oh, no… Sammy ate your peaches!? Very naughty, yet also kind of cute.
It’s not going to be very busy on my blog this week. The girls are all home for a couple more days, so we’ll be spending more time together. The weather has been beautiful, too.
JoAnn, yes the stealing of the peaches was kind of cute after the fact. I hope you have a great time with your girls!
He sounds a bit like Daisy! She walks on the back of the couch, climbs into the window sills, and gets up on the coffee tables!!!1
Staci, they are little devils aren’t they? lol. Sammy won’t go up on the back of the couch on his own. He seems scared of stuff like that. I wonder if it isn’t because he’s so much bigger and is trying to balance himself or something because Buddy was going up there by himself from a baby.
I wish Bermuda had the change of seasons to see ‘without the snow’ so glad we don’t have to deal with that, lol
Not a slump 🙁 I can’t wait to read Traingles, look forward to your review when you get to it.
Your puppy is so adorable.
Marce, yes you would definitely not want the snow! Much to cold and driving is no fun at all. I’m thinking I should pick up Triangles. I bet that book would take care of the reading blahs. I’m looking forward to your review too.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and following me. You blog about my two favourite things books and dogs 😀
Your dog is lovely! I have a big chocolate labrador, they bring such joy into our lives 🙂
Jenny x Chocolate Chunky Munkie x
Hi Jenny (Chocolate Chunky Munkie), thanks for stopping by! Books and dogs are two of my favorite things as well as you can see. Yes Sam is a sweetie. He can be trouble in capital letters but I love him.
Sammy is too cute and I loved the pictures of your rose still in bloom. Mine have long since faded, but my mums are looking quite beautiful.
Laura, I always find fall so sad when all the flowers fade away so this rose was such a nice surprise. It’s gone now with the cold temps we’ve been having in the morning. Those marigolds are hanging on though. Thanks for stopping by!
The flower is beautiful, how nice that it bloomed during this time of year. And the photo of Sammy with the sock is tooo cute! 🙂 Diego doesn’t go to the groomers since he’s short haired and I wash him and trim his nails myself. I think he’d have a hissy fit if I tried to take him to the groomers lol. He’s a chicken.
I’ve just finished reding Shutter Island and really enjoyed it.
Have a good week Dar 🙂
Naida, that is one nice thing about a short haired dog – so much less fuss. Buddy never liked the groomers at all but Sam seems ok which is good as I was starting to have a lot of trouble doing Buddy with the arthritis in my hands plus the groomers do so much of a better job than I ever did.
I haven’t read Shutter Island but I saw the movie. If you haven’t, you should. It was great!
That Sammy always brings a smile to my face!
I’ve been in a reading slump, too. The book I’m reading is great but I just can’t get motivated to read. Of course, we’ve had company, too, and the temps have been in the eighties. I need a nice rainy day!
Linda, I’m glad that Sammy brings smiles to so many! I hate hearing that you’re in a reading slump too. It’s horrible, isn’t it? I sure wish you could send me some of your weather!
We still have a few flowers in bloom here as it’s been in the 70-80 degree range by day lately, but that will change in a few days – such a pretty flower Dar.
Oh and Sammy is so cute but a handful i bet:0
Diane, I wish it was a bit warmer here. The cold always seems to hit so hard at first. Yeah, Sammy is a handful but I wouldn’t trade him for anything.
Sammy is 25 lbs already? He’s getting so big – but I’m not sure he’s ever going to outgrow his puppy antics!
Lisa, yes Sam is already 25 lbs. He should be done already I hope. The vet did predict he’d be about this size and he was right. I don’t see him outgrowing his puppy antics at all as he hasn’t slowed down even a bit from a puppy yet. lol.
That darn little Sam! He is such a character!
Glad your weather is hanging in there and the snow hasn’t come yet!
Carla, yes Sam is a character all right. No snow yet but I doubt it’ll be long especially with how cold the air is now. Even when it’s sunny, it’s cold. It sure seemed to come on fast this year. Hope you’re well!
Sammy I hope you and mama enjoyed Thanksgiving.
Esme, we did have a nice Thanksgiving. Thank you so much.
I have no idea what to tell you about your slump! I am so sorry to hear that. Maybe a day off from work or something would do the trick/ Recharge the batteries, have the house to yourself kind of thing.
Hope this weeks gets better for you 🙂
Jen, I just finished a book tonight that I hope pulled me out of my slump. lol. I’m just hoping it continues on to the next read as well. It felt good to actually want to keep reading.
Oh and Happy Thanksgiving!
Jen, thank you!
Sammy is just so darn cute, though, you couldn’t be mad at for stealing your breakfast. 🙂
Kaye, yes he’s a cutie – that’s the problem. He’s so cute that it’s impossible to stay mad at him when he gives you that puppy dog look of his.
