Book Spotlight: Running Away to Home by Jennifer Wilson & Giveaway

November 22, 2011 by Darlene

I’ve got a really interesting memoir to spotlight for you today that I can’t wait to read.  It’s called Running Away to Home: Our Family’s Journey to Croatia in Search of Who We Are, Where We Came From, and What Really Matters by Jennifer Wilson.  I think it would be great to be able to trace your roots and just get away from the stress of the world we live in, if only for a while.  Plus we all know how much I love to read memoirs that involve people moving to another country and trying to make a life there.  Running Away to Home promises to be a good read!  Let’s learn a bit about the book and make sure to check out the giveaway of a few copies at the end of the post.

About Running Away to Home by Jennifer Wilson

Have you ever been tempted to run away from home — or at least to run away from the frustrations of the busy, modern, American family life… cell phones, texting plans, school activities, expensive coffee, the long work day…

It was in response to exactly this feeling – and the suspicion that the “American Dream” kindof sucks – that Jennifer Wilson, travel writer and mother of two, decided to move her family of four to her ancestor’s home of Croatia in an attempt to retrace her own roots and find a way of bringing her family closer together – far, far away from the stress and distraction of the average suburban family lifestyle. And that experience led to the writing of RUNNING AWAY TO HOME.

I would really love to read this book. I have traced my family on both sides and have gone to see where some on my ancestors come from. But it never occured to me to move to the countries they came from. What a wonderful idea.
