Book Spotlight: Sea Change by Karen White & Giveaway (US only)

June 8, 2012 by Darlene

Happy Friday everyone!  I can’t believe how fast this week has flown by.  Sorry I haven’t been by your blogs lately.  My papa is unwell and I’m scraping by just getting my own blog in order.  Anyhow today I’m happy to spotlight a book that I can’t wait to read once my copy arrives and that is Sea Change by Karen White.  I’ve been a fan for many years – probably soon after I started blogging.  I love Karen’s books and her writing style – she most definitely tops my list of favorite authors!  So enjoy learning a bit about the book and Karen and check out the giveaway at the end of the post for your chance to win a copy!

About Sea Change

For as long as she can remember, Ava Whalen has struggled with a sense of not belonging, and now, at thirty-five, she still feels stymied by her family. Then she meets child psychologist Matthew Frazier and thinks her days of loneliness are behind her. After a whirlwind romance, they impulsively elope, and Ava moves to Matthew’s ancestral home on St. Simons Island, off the coast of Georgia.

But after the initial excitement, Ava is surprised to discover that true happiness continues to elude her. There is much she doesn’t know about Matthew, including the mysterious circumstances surrounding his first wife’s death. And her new home seems to hold as many mysteries and secrets as her new husband. Feeling adrift, Ava throws herself into uncovering Matthew’s family history and that of the island, not realizing that she has a connection of her own to this place–or that her obsession with the past could very well destroy her future.

About Karen White

After playing hooky one day in the seventh grade to read Gone With the Wind, Karen White knew she wanted to be a writer—or become Scarlett O’Hara. In spite of these aspirations, Karen pursued a degree in business and graduated cum laude with a BS in Management from Tulane University. Ten years later, after leaving the business world, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a writer and wrote her first book. In the Shadow of the Moon was published in August, 2000. This book was nominated for the prestigious RITA award in 2001 in two separate categories. Her books have since been nominated for numerous national contests including two more RITAs, the SIBA (Southeastern Booksellers Association) Fiction Book of the Year, and has twice won the National Readers’ Choice Award for Learning to Breathe and On Folly Beach.

Karen currently writes what she refers to as ‘grit lit’—southern women’s fiction—and has recently expanded her horizons into writing a bestselling mystery series set in Charleston, South Carolina. Her 2011 releases, The Beach Trees and The Strangers on Montagu Street were released in trade paperback by New American Library, a division of Penguin Publishing Group, and debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at number fifteen and fourteen respectively.

Karen hails from a long line of Southerners but spent most of her growing up years in London, England and is a graduate of the American School in London and has a BS degree from Tulane University. She currently lives near Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and two children, and a spoiled Havanese dog (who appears in several of her books), Quincy. When not writing, she spends her time reading, scrapbooking, playing piano, and avoiding cooking.

Her fifteenth novel, Sea Change, was published in June, 2012 and she is currently contracted with Penguin for four more novels.

Holy Cow! After reading that excerpt I a) know I must read this book and b) wrote on Karen’s FB wall and told her that the book resonates so well with me. Just like Mimi in the book, my Grandma, who I lost last year this time, was 93 and insisted on wearing low heels too. The music box that she described? I have the same exact one…and lastly, the relationship with her mother. Seriously, I got chills, and that was just the excerpt!
