Today I’m spotlighting The Making of Us by Lisa Jewell which releases today! I really enjoy novels by British authors so I’m looking forward to this one. It’s described as being about love, family, and friendship – what could be better! I’m going to share with you what the book is about, a bit about the author, and of course a great giveaway so check that out at the end of the post.
About The Making of Us
Lydia, Dean, and Robyn don’t know each other. Yet…
Lydia is still wearing the scars from her traumatic childhood, and although she is wealthy and successful, her life is lonely and disjointed. She’s accomplished so much at such a young age, but her brilliance and fortune is wasted with no one to share it with. Until an unexpected letter from her long-lost uncle reveals a shocking truth.
Dean is a young man whose life is on a fast track to nowhere. He is jobless and about to have a baby he doesn’t really want with a girlfriend who hates him. But then one afternoon, life takes a turn and he’s somewhere he never expected to be: a single dad, forced to re-evaluate the direction of his whole life.
Robyn is eighteen, with a loving family and everything going for her. She’s beautiful, intelligent, even studying to be a doctor, determined to one day be a pediatrician like the biological father she doesn’t know. She has never met this man, but neither has her mother. He was an anonymous donor, and that’s exactly how Robyn wants to think of him – a character in her own personal fairy tale. Until the day she meets the man of her dreams and falls in love. He looks like her, he thinks like her, he even has the same freckle in the same place on his left hand. It could be just a coincidence, but she needs to be sure before she can allow herself to be with him. It’s time for her to open the envelope her parents gave her on her eighteenth birthday.
These three strangers have one important link holding them together – their genetics. Brought into the world through anonymous sperm donation, Lydia, Dean, and Robyn have no idea about the existence of their siblings. That is, until Lydia discovers that the man who raised her isn’t really her father at all, and she decides to get some answers. After finding out she has siblings, Lydia contacts them, hoping to create the family she’s always wanted. Dean and Robyn aren’t so sure though… until Dean decides to take a leap of faith and Robyn needs information that could change her life forever. Without realizing it this family of misfits soon discovers that just because you’re not looking for something doesn’t mean it isn’t exactly what you need.
In her signature warm and inviting style, Lisa Jewell crafts yet another novel that is domestic drama at its best. As the UK’s Sunday Telegraph has said about her writing, “it gobbles you up whole.” THE MAKING OF US will do just that, asking you to ponder the meaning of family in every form it takes. An entertaining literary treat about the miracles that happen when we bring life into the world and share our lives with those we love, Lisa Jewell’s latest winner will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

Reminds me a bit of a large real-life family of siblings who were unaware of each others existence, several of whom had crossed paths along the way (two dated briefly, if I recall the story correctly). I’d love to read this. Thanks for the chance. I’m a follower.
