Sunday Update on Dad and Book Winners

August 26, 2012 by Darlene

Hi you guys!  Long time no see.  Mommy’s been too busy to take pictures but she got this one when I was begging to go outside.  How can you resist this face?  One thing for sure – mommy can’t!

Well it’s been a hectic week for me and for those following along with my posts we finally have my Dad back at home.  He’s pretty tired and likely will be until they can go ahead and put a pacemaker in for him.  Because of his past surgery in July they still have to wait for his heart to heal fully before they can go forward.  Last weekend he was having a very hard time breathing and it turned out that he had well over a liter of fluid and blood around his heart.  They drained that and he spent the week in the hospital.  He’ll be seeing his surgeon the first week of September so we should know more then.  I just want to see my dad feeling good again.  Seeing him in the hospital and this sick is pretty scary.  Again those of you who pray I’d appreciate any and all prayers sent up for him.

Other than that there hasn’t been much going on here.  Summer is coming to a close and things are starting to die off already.  We’re in for some hot days this week though so it’s still summer like out there and if not for those awful mosquitoes would probably still be quite enjoyable.  Poor little Sam was sick this past week too.  I think it was the stress of dad being gone and in the hospital and me in and out of the house to see him.  He’s a pretty sensitive puppy so things bother him really easily.  Hopefully things will settle a bit before Dad has to go back in again.

I’ve been doing some reading and listening to some audiobooks.  I hope to catch up on some reviews of them at some point.  It’s been much easier for me to concentrate on audiobooks than actual reading.  When they are well done they can sure take you away from things for a while.  I did finish The Montclair Sisters by Cathy Holton today though and it was fantastic.  I’ll be posting a review this week both on the blog here and on BookTrib.  I really enjoy her books and once again she didn’t disappoint me.  This week will be a slow week and that’s fine for me.  I’m spending most of my time keeping an eye on my dad anyway.

Now for some book winners – as usual I’m a bit behind.  Just as a note if you won a book last time I announced winners I haven’t had a chance to send those in yet and will do so this week.  My dad hadn’t been feeling well for about a week before he went in the hospital and I just didn’t have the chance.  Here’s the winners for the last few weeks…

A Girl Like You by Maria Geraci — Michelle James

The Making of Us by Lisa Jewell — Mary from Bookfan, Lisa G, and Tammy J

The Shadow Queen by Rebecca Dean — Patricia N and Kay G

Dance, Gladys, Dance by Cassie Stocks — Cassandra G and Leslie from Under My Apple Tree

The Sisters Montclair by Cathy Holton (very good book!) — jennygirl from Jenny Loves to Read and Carl

Big Sky Mountain by Linda Lael Miller — Ann H

India’s Summer by Therese — Bethie

House of Shadows by Rachel Neumeier — Suz Reads

That’s it for today.  I hope you all had a great weekend.  I’m sorry I haven’t been by anyone’s blogs but I hope to this week.  I feel so completely out of touch lately.  Anyhow, have a great week everybody!

Glad to hear your Dad is home! Yea!!! Not only does it stink to be the patient but it’s a lot on the family members too. All the running back and forth to the hospital and making sure their loved ones are ok.

Just glad he is home and with a little TLC and maybe some physical therapy he’ll be back to normal soon. He should feel good after the pacemaker implant too. It’s true, they need to wait a bit to give his heart some healing time.
A little loving from Sammy should help too 🙂

And congrats to the winners! and yea for me too!

So glad your dad is doing a bit better but it sure is scary when the fluid causes problems with breathing.

    Love the photo of Sam!

Thinking of and praying for your dad. We are going through the same thing with my father-in-law. (fluid around his lungs and shortness of breath, etc.) Not fun!

I’m sure little Sammie is picking up your tension and stress about your dad. They are sensitive dogs. I hope your dad continues to get better and better. Being home should help a lot I would think. Hang in there! Hugs.

My Mom-In Law just put us through the heart trouble scare too so I know how exhausting it can be. She got her pacemaker & is doing great now. I’m happy your Dad is home again & hope he heals fast so he can get his pacemaker too. Give Sammy an extra hug for me & Ya’ll take care. 😉

I have been pretty scarce in the book blogosphere for the last month or more and I didn’t know your dad hasn’t been feeling well. I’ll be keeping your dad, you and the rest of your famly in my thoughts and prayers. I’m glad to read your dad is out of the hospital and home (it’s always better at home with loved one and Sammy). I’m glad there’s a plan in place for your dad and I know pacemaker’s can do a world of good.

Poor Sammy, I hope he’s feeling better. Pets are often very sensitive to illness and stress in the people they love. Sammy was probably very worried ~ what a sweet dog! I love the photo of him at the top of the post…that’s how he asks to go out?!

Dar, take care of yourself and your dad.

I’m busy playing blog catch up and just got to this post – since we’re well into September now, I’m so hoping that your dad is doing better and was able to get the care he needed!
