From Notting Hill with Love…Actually by Ali McNamara

From Notting Hill with Love…Actually by Ali McNamara was such a fun audiobook to listen to. The book is narrated by Finty Williams and what an awesome job she does! This is the perfect book to grab for the beach or just if you feel you need something light and really good to escape into for a while.  I read it with my book club and we all enjoyed it and despite being a fun book it also has some serious issues that can be discussed.

Scarlett loves the movies and I must say that I related to her very well on this level as we seemed to like the same movies and I really enjoyed how snippets from movies were added into the narrative. I really think that added so much to me liking this book. Anyhow Scarlett thinks life should play out like a movie and as we all know it just doesn’t. Her fiancé David isn’t quite living up to her expectations but then how can he when he doesn’t resemble the gorgeous Hugh Grant. So when Scarlett is offered the opportunity to house-sit in Notting Hill for jumps at it. After all it is the setting for one of her all time favorite movies so it has to be a good sign.

There she meets her neighbour Sean who, while being very good looking, is pretty much just as equally irritating. Interestingly enough as time passes by it seems that Scarlett’s life is following right along with some of the scenes of her favorite movies. Another thing she can’t deny is her attraction to Sean and when he begins to help her in her search for her mother – well let’s just say that makes him all the more appealing. So what will Scarlett do: go with the safe choice in David or live on the edge and choose Sean?

I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this book. So much so that I already picked up the audio of the sequel From Notting Hill to New York…Actually and can’t wait to listen to it. Even better is that the narrator is again Finty Williams and I think she’s the perfect choice for these books. If you’re looking for some great chick lit I’d say this is one you don’t want to pass by. I will say though that it helps to have a love of romantic comedies as they are referenced a lot so knowing and loving those movies really does add to the enjoyment of this book.

This sounds like a very well-done book. I like the ideas of the movies woven into the story. Terrific review, Darlene!

I’m not much into chick-lit but this sounds like a fun book to escape with.

I would love to listen to this, but audible is not allowed to sell this for download in the USA. 🙁
