Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan

July 17, 2013 by Darlene

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe Cover

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan is the perfect novel for foodies and for those of us who love novels of women’s friendships! This is one of those stories that leaves you feeling happy, not to mention hungry too. Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe makes you realize that it’s never too late to go after your dreams!

Issy Randall has always loved to bake and she can create the most mouth watering delectable little cakes you can imagine. Her earliest memories are of baking with her grandfather who owned a bakery and she has definitely inherited her love of baking from him. So why is she is at a desk job when it’s the last thing she really wants to do. Well I guess then it’s a good thing she’s laid off from her job because it forces her to reevaluate her life and her relationships.

Issy decides to open up her own shop. It’s something she’s always wanted to do but has been too afraid. The only problem there may be is she’s opening up on street that isn’t all that popular anymore called 4 Pear Tree Court. The shop is perfect though and there is beautiful courtyard – Issy can picture the perfection of her shop clearly in her mind. So she embarks on the journey of getting it all going and while dealing with that she’s also dealing with one love she thought she had and one she may have as well as finding new friendships in unlikely places.

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe is a wonderful story with characters you will come to love. I really liked Issy for her determination in following her dream and making her shop a success. The only thing about her that drove me crazy was her lack of judgment when it came to men but many of us can attest to being the same way at some point in our lives. It’s awesome to read a book about a strong and smart woman who makes her dreams a reality even if the odds aren’t all in her favor.

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe is a delightful novel that is sure to please any foodie with the yummy recipes at the start of each chapter. I thought it was really well done how the author weaves the recipe in with what the chapter is about. Anyhow just a few of the recipes that caught my eye were Peppermint Creams because I love anything peppermint. There was also Lemon Getting What You Want Cake, Double Chocolate Cupcakes, and Strawberry Meringue Cookies and that’s just to name a few of the great recipes in the book. I also loved how she made little funnies while relating the recipe like while you’re baking eat the extra ingredients and then proceed to eat all of the baking while laying around in your jammies. There were quite a few laugh it loud moments.

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan was a winner for me! Check back tomorrow for a spotlight and a chance to win a copy of this great novel for yourself!

My favorite is my mother’s Red Velvet Cake. She took her special frosting receipe to the grave unfortunetly. The cream cheese frosting is not the correct one.
