ABOUT MEET ME AT THE CUPCAKE CAFE

Baking is in Issy Randall’s blood. Growing up above her grandfather’s bakery taught Issy that a delicious pastry could make any day better. So when she’s laid off from her desk job—by the man she thought was her boyfriend, no less—Issy knows now is the time to start her own little café.

Armed with her grandfather’s tried and true recipes, as well as her own new dishes, Issy’s new dream job should be a piece-of-cake, right? But managing a café, delivering products on time and trying to have a new love life aren’t exactly going as Issy planned. And when her ex comes back into the picture, perhaps with his own motives, Issy’s search for the perfect pastry and a groundbreaking idea to save her café are much more than she bargained for…

A former columnist for The Guardian, Jenny contributes regularly to national BBC radio and is the bestselling author of more than eleven novels, including The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris (coming out in the US in early 2014). She is married with three children and lives in London and France. For more information, please visit http://www.jennycolgan.com/ and follow her on Twitter, @JennyColgan.

Believe it or not, but my favorite baked goods are cupcakes. They are right sized and just delicious. My children and grandchildren love for me to make them for them because I add my real, homemade buttercream frosting. Yummy! This is another reason I was drawn to the cover and the book here by Jenny. Would so love to win a copy of this yummy book!

My favorite baked good is Orange Kiss-Me Cake that my mom used to make. I have wonderful memories of making it with her. My job was to crank the grinder to grind together the oranges, walnuts and raisins. I still use that grinder to this day.

My favorite baked good would be cherry pie. However, my most meaningful memory baking sugar cookies with Jiffy white frosting with my mom and siblings. We made them for St. Patrick’s Day (clover), Easter (bunnies and eggs), 4th of July (stars), Halloween (pumpkins, ghosts, and bats), Thanksgiving (turkeys) and Christmas (Santa, star, gingerbread man, candy cane, ornament, and teddy bear). I don’t make them for all the holidays above, but have all my mom’s cookie cutters and I keep Jiffy frosting in freezer (so hard to find it in NY).

My favorite baked good is any and all. But for my husband’s birthday for 34 years I bake him a homemade peach pie every year. It got interrupted before his 39th birthday while I had our youngest daughter – we just had it a week later.
I am not hard to please – if it is dessert, I like it.

My favorite memory is that of my grandmother cooking. She would always make it look so easy, especially rice pudding. She would never measure, just a handful of this and a pinch of that and it always tasted so good.
