Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen (Audiobook)

March 5, 2014 by Darlene

lost lake

Sarah Addison Allen has long been one of my favorite authors and I’ve read every last one of her books just as soon as they come out. She has shared with us once again the beauty of her magical story telling in Lost Lake which I devoured!  Lost Lake is  the She Reads Book Club Selection for March and I couldn’t possibly think of a better choice! I listened to the audio version narrated by Janet Metzger and she does such a phenomenal job! I’ve listened to a few audios narrated by her now and I really enjoy my time spent listening to her and when such a beautiful story as Lost Lake is being told it just enriches the listening experience even more.

Having lost her husband a year ago Kate has literally been sleepwalking through her life but that’s about to change as she once again wakes up to the life around her and her young daughter Devin. As Kate and her daughter prepare to move in with Kate’s mother-in-law, Kate and Devin discover an old postcard from Kate’s great aunt Eby who lives at Lost Lake. On a whim Kate decides that she and Devin are going to go and see if the magical summer cabins that Kate spent that memorable summer when she was twelve are still there.

Upon arriving Lost Lake is everything Kate remembers. The beauty and serenity of the place is just what she and Devin need. When Kate learns that this will be the last summer Eby has the cabins at Lost Lake she feels saddened by this news. As she and Devin begin to fall under the spell of Lost Lake Kate realizes she doesn’t know if she ever wants her old life back. Maybe it’s time to write a new ending to her and Devin’s life and move forward.

From the moment I met Kate and her wonderful and perceptive daughter Devin I was hooked and then the idyllic setting of Lost Lake was just icing on the cake. Add into that mix the wonderful cast of characters and you can’t help but fall in love with these people and their stories. Lost Lake is a wonderful book but then I expect nothing less from Sarah Addison Allen! To put out such a beautifully haunting novel after all that Sarah has been through with her health amazes me. I applaud you Sarah and wish you nothing but good health in the future!

I’m kind of embarrassed to admit I haven’t read Allen’s work yet. I went to an event for her and she has lots of rabid fans! I hope to read this one soon.

Janet Metzger narrated COMING UP FOR AIR by Patti Callahan Henry, and she was wonderful! She’d be a great choice for Sarah Addison Allen too. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
