Mercy Snow by Tiffany Baker is one of the She Reads Books of Winter. I’ve read one other of Baker’s books and really enjoyed it so I was looking forward to this one. Mercy Snow was a fantastic book for me! I listened to the audiobook which is read by Christine Lakin and she does a great job. I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to her before but I wouldn’t hesitate to in the future. She has a great voice for telling stories!
Mercy Snow takes place in Titan Falls, New Hampshire and is a small town brimming with secrets. The residents are a tightly woven bunch that doesn’t readily accept outsiders. Not even outsiders that have been in the town for over twenty years and married to the owner of the paper mill – the paper mill that keeps the town running. That is the life of June McAllister who with all of her money and power still can’t seem to find a foothold in the community no matter how hard she tries
At the opposite end of power is poverty and that is the life of Mercy snow and her family who have just moved onto their dead father’s land much to the town’s disgust. They aren’t wanted there. Even more so when one fateful night there is a tragic school bus crash and Zeke Snow’s crashed truck is found not far from the scene. The Snow’s are nothing but trouble and the town blames Zeke and set out to find and convict him of the tragedy.
Not all is as it seems though as June McAllister soon learns when she unearths some disturbing evidence related to the crime. Her mission is to ensure she keeps her family and their power over the town intact. This means finding the Zeke boy, having him arrested, and getting rid of the rest of the Snow’s as well. What she doesn’t expect is how resourceful Mercy Snow can be in order to protect her own family.
Mercy Snow is a really good story with a hint of magic that I loved. It’s a beautifully told, well crafted story that I really enjoyed – especially in audio. Highly recommended!

Kay, I hope you’ll like it as much as I did.
This book sounds good! I’m intrigued by you mentioning the hint of magic 🙂
Meg, I love anything with a hint of magic too. I think all of her books have that quality.
I didn’t love The Little Giant of Aberdeen County the way most people did so I decided to skip this book. It sounds like I made a mistake.
Kathy, I liked this one better than The Little Giant of Aberdeen County although I liked that one too.
Darlene, it sounds as if you really enjoyed this audiobook! Tiffany Baker is a talented author–I will look for this book (or audiobook). You have me curious about the bit of magic.
I like the sound of this! I’ll have to look for it.
I listened to this one on audio too and it made my favorite list of 2014.
I’m intrigued by this one!! It sounds really good and I’m thinking that I will have to check it out myself. Adding it to the TBR list right now. Thanks!
