All the Single Ladies is the latest from best-selling author Dorothea Benton Frank and as usual she serves up a fantastic summer read! I’ve been enjoying her books for years now and always look forward to a new one and a chance to visit South Carolina’s Lowcountry again. All the Single Ladies is about the beauty of friendship and so much more!
Lisa is a geriatric nurse and has devoted her life to taking care of people. She’s a single mother of a grown daughter and now only has her adorable dog Pickle as a housemate as there are issues with her daughter and presently they aren’t speaking. So right now she’s more focused on caring for her patients and one of them is Kathy Harper who is dying from cancer. Lisa has become close with Kathy and when she passes it’s difficult and she turns to the two women, Suzanne and Carrie, who were by Kathy’s side continuously. As the women get to know each other better they find a strong bond of friendship developing.
Lisa, Suzanne, and Carrie begin to share everything with each other – their secrets, their hopes, wine, and definitely a lot of yummy food because of course women have to have munchies while they chat. To add to the already interesting mix is Miss Trudie, Suzanne’s grandmother and she’s a ninety-nine year old pistol. What I loved most is these women are all in their fifties and I have to say it’s quite refreshing to read a novel about women close to my own age with many of the same concerns or thoughts as I have.
Add to that a bit of a mystery concerning their beloved friend Kathy, some new men in their lives, and the ever present concerns of aging and things really heat up. With almost every page I wished I would meet some ladies like these ones and join them walking on the beach or having a glass of wine on the porch. While I think some things were a bit over the top I took it all with a grain of salt and just let myself enjoy the humor and also the important message that it’s never too late to form new and lasting friendships or relationships. Just because you’re over a certain age doesn’t mean that life is over – you can still go out and enjoy each day and all it offers! Highly recommended!

Frank’s books are so much fun! Thanks for the giveaway!
Kathy they are probably even more fun for you being from the South.
Glad to see you recommend it, Dar. I won a copy from LibraryThing but haven’t received it yet. Can’t wait to read it!
Mary, it’s a fun summer read!
I keep hearing the Beyonce song in my head. LOL
Kay, which one? I’m not really familiar with her music.
It called ‘Single Ladies’. LOL
Lol. Yes that would have stuck in my head too.
I have not read any of her books but they all look good to me!
Wendy (wall-to-wall), her books are good and perfect for summer because they’re nice and light. Plus the covers are always amazing and like you I’m a sucker for a nice cover.
I have this book on my TBR list! It sounds like a great read and perfect for the summer!! Great review! (P.S. I’m not entering the contest since I already have the book).
Lisa, it is perfect for summer. I love those light reads for summer although I tackle the harder ones too. It’s just nice to be outside reading!
Great books by Miss Frank.. Sounds like a good beach read.
Thank you for the give away
Diane C, it is the perfect beach read. Good luck in the giveaway!
This sounds like it is a fun book. I have been hearing a lot about it lately. Many years ago someone told me I should read something by Dorothea Benton Frank and I still haven’t. Someday.
Wendy (lit feline), her books are fun. I like her sense of humor even though some is corny but I guess that’s what makes it more fun. I’ve read quite a few of hers now and they’re like a comfort read for me.
This look great! I’ve read a couple of her books.
Nise, it is good. Perfect for summer. I like her books because they’re light and fun.
Although come to think of it I have read one of hers that was sad. I just can’t remember the full title. Something with Grace in it. I’ll have to look it up.
These ladies sounds like the kind of friends I want to have. Thanks for being a part of the tour!
Heather, me too. Too bad it’s harder in real life to find friends like that. lol.
I’ve only read a few by this author, but have liked them all. She’s a reliable summer read. Thanks for visiting and have a great week!
Elizabeth, I agree. She comes out with a book usually in the summer and even the cover of this one screams summer.
I loved this: “Just because you’re over a certain age doesn’t mean that life is over – you can still go out and enjoy each day and all it offers! ” Sounds like a fun read!
Belle Wong, that’s what I love about books geared for the older generation like me – the message that you can still go for what you want. It’s never too late!
