Ramblings on a Tuesday – Sammy & Summery Things

June 9, 2015 by Darlene

white peonies

Well I’m having Sunday Ramblings on a Tuesday because I completely forgot to do up a post for Sunday.  In my defense I’ve been really sick with a terrible summer cold and couldn’t do much of anything including read.  I’m starting to feel better so hopefully I can get myself back on track with reading, dieting, and blogging.  Anyone do anything exciting over the weekend?  Reading anything good?

I started back on my reading on Sunday so I’m finishing up Doughnuts & Deadly Schemes by Janel Gradowski which is just as good as I expected.  This should have been reviewed last week so my apologies to Janel but I was just too sick.  I’m finishing up The Killer Next Door by Alex Marwood on audio and all I can say is wow.  It’s creepy and sooooo good!  Just what I needed when I wasn’t feeling the best and needed to take my mind of things.  Next up is Second Life by S.J. Watson which I’m looking forward to and which is coming up for review this week.  I’m also listening to Misery by Stephen King for the Misery Read-a-Long and it fantastic.  It’s so hard to stop listening but the read-a-long is a month long so it wouldn’t be the best to finish it in a few days – lol.  I also have a few book winners and they’ve already been emailed and responded but congrats to them a little late:

The Promise by Ann Weisgarber – Lisa G
The Dream Lover by Elizabeth Berg – Sandra F
The Mapmaker’s Children by Sarah McCoy – Shannon R

In summer news the garden is doing great.  We’ve never had our garden come up so fast and I’m already excited for the beans especially but there is also zucchini, beets, peas, carrots, and potatoes.  I didn’t take a picture but we’ve also got cucumbers, lettuce, and tomatoes planted alongside our garage.  I’ll take a picture of them for next time.

garden juneCan’t wait for the yummy veggies!

yellow rosesI  love when these little yellow tea roses bloom!

white lilacsWhite lilacs are one of my favorites -wish you could smell these!

In Sammy news he’s the same as ever.  His skin is slowly getting better once again but I’m going to take him in to the vet this week anyway and see if we have to check his thyroid.  He’s been a little more sluggish again and while it could be the hot weather I want to be sure.  So as you all know he hates having his picture taken so while these aren’t the best photos in the world they are all he would allow.  LOL.

sam waitingMommy I want to go ‘in house’!  Why aren’t we going ‘in house’ yet? (Why – because mommy would like to stay outside for more than five minutes)

sam guardI’m not barking mommy.  I’m guarding you and the house!

sam relaxingAhhhh, this is the life mommy… I’ll just wait here for you…

So that’s it for another week.  I hope everyone has a great week ahead!

You’re brave to tackle Misery… too scary for me! Your flowers are beautiful, the garden looks great, and Sammy is adorable, as always. Glad you are starting to feel better.

JoAnn, I love horror so Misery is right up my alley. I’ve seen the movie countless times but haven’t read the book. It’s really good!

Hope that you feel better soon! Love the Sammy pics, he’s adorable!! The flowers are beautiful, and I’m impressed by your garden. I’m reading The Killer Next Door along with you and it is definitely creepy but has some good characters.

Bonnie, The Killer Next Door was so awesome wasn’t it. We need to pick a new book to listen to now.

I hope you’re back to your old self soon. Your garden looks wonderful – there’s nothing better than fresh veggies. Give Sammy a hug from me.

Kathy, I’m feeling much better now. Thanks. Yes fresh veggies are the best. I always get so excited when the garden starts to grow. I can almost taste those beans and peas. lol.

First of all, your flowers are gorgeous! Love them. I love flower pictures of all kinds. Sorry about your cold, but glad you are feeling better. Some good things you are reading and about to read. I have that Alex Marwood book to read. I read her Wicked Girls last year and liked it a lot. Have a better week!

Kay, thank you. I love flower pictures too. I picked up Wicked Girls on audio the other day after you said you liked it. Can’t wait to listen to it!

Love the garden! That’s something we can’t have where we live now, but someday I hope to learn not to kill all plant life. 😉 Hope you’re feeling better!

Anna, I’m not good with house plants but we manage to keep the outside ones alive. lol. I am feeling much better – thanks.

I hope you are completely illness free soon, Darlene! Your garden looks lovely. And Sammy, as always, is adorable. 🙂 Thank you for sharing the photos with us.

It’s been years since I read Misery. I am glad you are enjoying it.

    Have a wonderful week, Darlene!

Wendy, I am feeling much better. Misery is awesome. Different from the movie version which I’ve seen numerous times. I always find it interesting to see how the book and movie differ.

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been so sick. It’s really bad when you don’t feel like reading! Your garden and flowers are gorgeous. The white lilac is so pretty I can almost smell it.

Hope Sammy’s tests come out good and you are on the mend soon.

    Take care!!

Connie, I know. When I don’t feel like reading that means I’m really sick. I’m feeling a lot better now though. Those white lilacs smelled wonderful and I think they are so pretty too. I had Sam at the vet yesterday and he got a needle full of antibiotics to help with his skin and he’s doing a bit better already.

I’m really glad to hear that. I worry about our precious fur-babies when they’re sick. My son had to take one of his cats in yesterday for a urinary tract infection. The vet gave her the needle full of antibiotics and she feels much better today. Three cheers for the good meds to heal the babies.

Hope you are feeling 100 percent yourself soon.

Connie, I hope your son’s cat will be ok. The meds should help a great deal. Yes it’s good that there are meds out there to help them. For Sam the needle is much better as with his liver issues he can’t handle oral antibiotics. I’m the same as you I worry when any of my friend’s fur babies are sick. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Beth, thank you. I love peonies – they are just so beautiful. I’m feeling much better now thank you. Hugs to you and Sammy said to give you a whole bunch of extra slurps from him 🙂

I haven’t read Misery in ages but I am behind in other books. I am loving Janel’s book right now. I am glad you are feeling better! That garden is awesome; ours is much smaller but we have a small yard. We try to rotate crops each year.

I hope sammy stays in good health

Serena, I’ve seen the movie so many times but I never read Misery. The book is quite different from the movie and I’m really enjoying it. I’m almost done now and I’m trying to make the last half hour of the audio last a while because I don’t want it to be over. lol. I wish we had a bigger garden yet but then Sam wouldn’t have any yard to play in so we can’t do that. Sammy got a needle of antibiotics yesterday so he’s starting to feel better.

Would you believe I’ve only seen that movie once — it disturbs me more than the book. I think its the visuals.

I have a small yard, so I’m glad I have space for the garden and the dog, but she tends to go on walks through the pathways in the community more than hanging out in the backyard.

          June 12, 2015 at 2:40 pm

Lol Serena. I am much more disturbed by the book. I actually had to turn it off the other morning when I was having breakfast. I love horror movies and have no issues watching anything they throw at me but for some reason listening to it and letting my imagination take over is scaring me more. You know Sammy isn’t much for playing in the yard either. He likes to run around it though. Buddy loved playing out back but the little Samster is a bit different that way.

Your garden looks absolutely wonderful. I’d love to have one, but know it would not get the tending it needed. So I will support the local farmers at the twice weekly market. Lilacs are my favorites and I could almost smell the picture! ;o). Give Sammy a hug for me and I hope he is feeling spry soon! Hope you are better too. I got that summer cold and it was miserable.

      June 12, 2015 at 2:30 pm

Nise, I love the garden. Ours isn’t too big so it doesn’t take too much tending. I love the farmers markets though. We have several in the city here and they are awesome. I wish I could have sent you the smell of those lilacs. They were heaven. You got that awful cold too? Geez it wa horrible. Mine is pretty much gone now but I’m still tired. Sammy got a needle of antibiotic yesterday and he’s doing a bit better today so all is good so far.

Darlene, your garden looks very organized and the flowers are lovely. After the long winter I’m especially glad to see these photos. I hope you’re feeling better now (at least you could read then though). Sammy is such a doll! 🙂

Susan, I wholeheartedly agree! It’s so much nicer to see the garden and flowers than all that snow! lol. I am feeling much better thank you.

You have quite a garden! I’m impressed. Glad you’re starting to feel better and always happy to see and read about Sammy.
I was reading Misery, but I kept thinking of the movie too much. I gave up. I always give King a try at least.
    Enjoy your reads Darlene.

Jen, too bad you gave up on the book. It’s quite a lot different than the movie. I know what you mean though because as I’m listening all I can see is the characters from the movie. lol.

Sammy’s so cute! I’m glad you’re feeling better – summer colds are the worse, because mostly you want to be outside in the nice weather. I need to get my hands on Janel’s new book – it’s such a good series!

Belle Wong, he is a cutie and he knows it! I think summer colds are worse than the winter ones too. There’s so much more that needs doing in the summer. I agree on Janel’s books. I’m so happy for her that her books are doing so well!
