Jenny Colgan writes the kinds of stories that make you want to crawl right into the book and be friends with her quirky and very likeable characters. Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery is no different. It is such a delightful story and while it is the follow up to Little Beach Street Bakery you don’t have to have read the first one to thoroughly enjoy this one – I didn’t and I loved it! I enjoyed every minute spent with the quaint little town of Mount Polhearne and its inhabitants immensely!
Mount Polhearne is the small Cornish town where Polly Waterford runs a bakery on Beach Street. Things couldn’t be going better for Polly right now. She loves her job as her passion is feeding people and seeing their pleasure in what she creates, her boyfriend is amazing, and she adores their little pet puffin Neil. However with the arrival of a few new faces in Mount Polhearne Polly’s life along with some carefully kept secrets threaten to crumble all that Polly has built for herself.
I could totally see myself moving to a town like Mount Polhearne and enjoying some of Polly’s mouth-watering breads and baking while enjoying a cup of coffee with her. The setting of the book and all the supporting characters round out the novel perfectly. One of my favorites by far is Neil the puffin. I love any type of animal in a book and this little bird’s antics threw me into more than one fit of giggles.
Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery is the perfect book for your summer reading. There’s love, friendship, turmoil, and best of all any book that has anything to do with food warms my heart. I’m anxious now to read the first book and I’d certainly love to see another novel from Mount Polhearne and its great cast of characters!
