My Thoughts
I know the new year has only just started but Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig will top my list of favourites. I started listening to it yesterday and finished it today – I just couldn’t put it down. It’s hard to even put in words how I feel about this book other than to say it really touched me deeply. Listening to it only added to the emotional impact I took away from it. It’s narrated by Em Eldridge and she does an amazing job of portraying the young Ginny Moon and her daily struggles living with autism.
The story is told completely from fourteen year old Ginny’s viewpoint and it’s frank and real. You can’t help but love Ginny from the beginning as she is finally in what everyone hopes will be her forever home with her forever parents after coming from an abusive situation. However Ginny has left behind a past that affects her life daily. The biggest is that she still wants everyone to find her Baby Doll for her. They all keep offering to get her another baby doll while never understanding what she’s really trying to tell them and this obsession leads her into some very difficult situations.
In this novel the author has given us a look inside the mind of a child with autism. I suspect this novel has the impact that it does because he and his wife have adopted a child with autism themselves. I can’t say enough good things about this book. I laughed, I cried, but mostly I loved Ginny Moon. Highly recommended!

I didn’t realize this is about a child with autism. I have it in print and will try to pick it up soon.
