‘Your husband didn’t kill himself.’
Five years rebuilding your life. Five words will destroy it again.
Mia Hamilton lived the perfect life with her husband, university teacher Zach, and their two-year-old daughter, Freya. But everything changed when Zach committed suicide on the same night one of his students, Josie Carpenter, vanished.
Five years later, and Josie is still missing but Mia has finally found some happiness with new boyfriend Will.
Until one day when stranger Alison walks into her life and tells Mia that her husband didn’t kill himself.
Desperate to find out what really happened to Zach, Mia is forced to put her trust in Alison. But she soon discovers that Alison has her own agenda behind exposing the details of Zach’s death. Can Mia really believe anything Alison says?
Mia must decide how far she is willing to go to uncover the truth – even if she risks losing everything she loves.
My Thoughts
Silent Lies is the latest from Kathryn Croft and yet another great book from her. I’ve read several now and have enjoyed them all. In this novel we meet Mia who is a single mom and has lost her husband to suicide. Not only suicide but a totally destroyed reputation as it looks like he was involved in a relationship with a student. Years later she has a visitor who utters the words ‘your husband didn’t kill himself.’ Those words utterly cause Mia’s world to crumble once again.
Mia is determined to find out the truth and begins looking into everyone involved at the time. There are so many secrets and lies. Who or what can she believe? As this novel unfolds there are many twists and turns keeping the reader or listener in my case engrossed. As I was listening I thought I had it all figured out only to be quite surprised by the ending.
The audiobook was a great listening experience for me. It is narrated by Antonia Beamish and Rosie Jones. They do a great job of keeping up the suspenseful feel to this novel. I’ve listened to so many great psychological thrillers lately and Silent Lies is another one to add to the list!
