After Anna by Alex Lake is a psychological thriller that certainly kept me listening every chance I got. I’m so hooked on psychological thrillers lately. Any time the description includes those words I’m on board.
It all starts when Julie is late to pick up her five year old daughter Anna from school. She arrives at the school only to discover that Anna has gone missing. She is frantic. It’s her fault of course. She should have been there. Her husband and mother-in-law agree.
As we learn of the dynamics of these three we are also introduced to the kidnappers thoughts as the story unfolds. They focus on how easy it was to take Anna and on how negligent a parent Julie is. We wonder just what this person has in store for Anna.
Soon enough we learn that Anna is returned unharmed but with no memories of what happened. Just what went on while Anna was gone? Julie is determined to find out and in doing so puts herself in great danger.
I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Antonia Beamish. I’ve never listened to her before but I really enjoyed both her tone and what she brought to the telling of this story. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers this one is a great listen or read if you prefer!

I’ve never read a book by this author, it sounds really good.
Darlene,
I could listen to this because the little girl’s returned unharmed (although without memories). I think this psychological thriller would make an outstanding audio book. Terrific, concise review!
