Shortlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger for Best Crime Novel of the Year
From breakout thriller writer Paula Daly, the story of a husband and wife and the devious best friend who comes between them.
Natty and Sean have a rock-solid marriage—with two daughters, a successful business, and a beautiful house, they are a model family. When their younger daughter falls ill on a school trip, Natty rushes to her side. Luckily, Natty’s best friend from college, Eve, is visiting and offers to stay with Sean to lend a hand in the household. But Natty returns home to find that Eve has taken to family life a little too well: Sean has fallen in love with her. With no choice but to put on a brave face, Natty attempts to start anew—yet no matter how hard she tries to set herself upright, Eve is there to knock her down again. Then Natty receives a mysterious note that says Eve has done this before—more than once—and the consequences were fatal. On a mission to reveal Eve as a vindictive serial mistress, Natty must navigate through a treacherous maze of secrets and lies that threatens her life and the safety of her loved ones.
My Thoughts
I’m so hooked on psychological thrillers now. Well I have been for a while. I love all kinds of books but there is nothing like a great thriller to keep you occupied in such a good way for hours. Keep Your Friends Close is one of those books! This was such a good listen for me. It sure leaves you wondering if you ever really know your friends. Sure you know them but do you know the inner workings of their minds… probably not.
I loved the characters. Natty has a great marriage and family. She’s someone people love. On the opposite end there is her best friend Eve who personifies evil. The Eve that Natty thought she knew is not the person she actually turns out to be. When Natty is called away to tend to her sick daughter Eve pushes right in to take over Natty’s husband, family; her life. It’s really pretty scary just how easily psychopaths can worm their way into your life and destroy anything and everything you ever thought you knew.
Audio Thoughts
This was a fantastic audio. It’s narrated by Colleen Prendergast and she does a great job. I haven’t listened to anything narrated by her before but I wouldn’t hesitate to again.

Miss, so am I. I’m hopelessly hooked on audios now.
I’ve been really hooked on psychological thrillers this year too. I’m adding this to my list.
Vicki, they are so good aren’t they. Every time I try to read something else I get bored.
