Everything is Tuberculosis is one of the most enlightening books I’ve listened to. Although it’s non-fiction and I’m not particularly a fan, John Green hooked me in and I listened to this book in one sitting. I was utterly fascinated.
I think one of the things that shocked me the most is how prevalent tuberculosis still is. Sure I was aware it still exists but I was horrified to learn that in 2023 alone it killed over one million people. I thought this was one of those diseases we had much better control of. A few more things I found surprising about tuberculosis that I didn’t know is that it is airborne and spreads through coughing and sneezing. Anyone can get it and the medicine schedule for this one is awful. I was also fascinated when John explained how tuberculosis movies through the body. While it is slow, once it has established itself our immune system is no match for it. It’s downright scary for someone like me who has issues with germs and diseases.
The audiobook is read by John Green and I’m so glad it is. He has a nice calming voice and is very easy to listen to. Also it is his research and opinions and it seems fitting he should be the narrator. This book was fantastic! I learned so much that I didn’t know despite the fact that tuberculosis was around long before I was. Highly recommended.
