The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth (Audiobook)

April 1, 2022 by Darlene

I have been a fan of Sally Hepworth for a while now. I was really excited to listen to The Younger Wife and it didn’t disappoint in the least! She is an author who has a way of writing a psychological thriller that holds you just on the edge wondering what might happen next and then she throws in a few twists and turns just to hold you there a while longer. This one grabbed me from the first few lines and held me there until the end.

Rachel and Tully are shocked when their father introduces them to the new girlfriend and announces they’re going to get married. Why you say? Well first he’s still married to their mother who is suffering from dementia and let’s just say the new girlfriend is younger than the both of them. What is he thinking? They are sure she is just after his money as he’s a prominent heart surgeon. But then they start to learn little things about their father and long ago memories start to surface that leave them questioning if they ever really knew this man they called Dad.

The audiobook was so good and with fantastic narration! It’s narrated by Barrie Kreinik, Caroline Lee, Jessica Douglas-Henry, and Zoe Carides and they did a fabulous job of bringing this story to life. Barrie Kreinik and Caroline Lee are two of my favourite narrators and I’ve listened to them many times. I haven’t listened to the other two before but wouldn’t hesitate to in the future.

Another winner for me from Sally Hepworth! If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers add The Younger Wife to your reading list!

Don’t Look Back by Ben Cheetham (Audiobook)

March 31, 2022 by Darlene

Don’t Look Back by Ben Cheetham is the first in the Fenton House series and oh my did I ever like it! This one was hard for me to stop listening to and right from the beginning I was invested in the story.

I’ll be straight up with you and say this story does start on a sad note but it fits in with where it takes the family when they win a competition to stay for free in a beautiful mansion. It seems to me this house was just waiting for this troubled family. Of course we know that anything free comes with some kind of trouble and in this case the rumours are that the house is haunted.

One of the main characters, Adam, doesn’t believe in ghosts but as time passes even he begins to have doubts. Strange and sinister things start to happen at every turn and the family begins to wonder if they are even safe staying there. I am someone who loves horror but haunted houses always scare me. This book is creepy and eerie and I was constantly on edge wondering what was coming next and I love that feeling when listening to something on the scary side.

The audio was just awesome! The narrator Ralph Lister was amazing! Ive never listened to him before but wouldnt hesitate to in the future. He brought the creep factor big time in the telling of this story! The second audiobook in the series is due out the middle of April and is once again narrared by Ralph Lister. I can’t wait to listen!

If you love creepy stories and haunted houses this one is so good and its such a fantastic one to listen to!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen (Audiobook)

March 30, 2022 by Darlene

The Golden Couple is by two of my favorite authors – Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I’ve read both authors on their own and love them but have to admit that together they create magic on the pages of a book.

I was hooked on this story from the beginning and listened to it in a day. The storyline is great and there are many twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat! We’ve got the golden couple who seem to have it all until one of them is unfaithful. They’ve been married a long time and have a son so they decide on marriage counselling. However they end up going to a counsellor who deals with issues differently from your conventional therapist. None could know that all of their lives will change in unpredictable ways because as usual there is much more than just one secret being kept in this group of people.

The audiobook was fantastic! It’s narrated by Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland and they do a great job of portraying the characters. I’ve listened to Marin Ireland many times and she’s a favorite of mine and just recently listened to Karissa Vacker and really enjoyed the tone of her voice in that novel and this one.

The Golden Couple is one to add to your spring/summer reading and hold on – you’re in for a good listen or read!
