Book Winners

Book Winners!

April 9, 2012 by Darlene

This is what it looked like here just last Thursday.  It’s still not all gone.  Is summer ever coming?  LOL.

Good evening everyone!  Sorry there was no Sunday post yet again.  I’m still not feeling the best so I took the day off from posting.  My review for Empress of the Seven Hills is still coming – this Friday for sure.  Unfortunately still no new pics of Sammy as he wasn’t feeling well last week so I cancelled his appt for his hair.  He’ll be going this weekend instead.  By not posting on Sunday everyone also missed a picture of our lovely snowstorm so I’ll post it here today.  We had a freak snowstorm with I’m sure pretty near 2 feet of snow.  It was pure craziness!  We had to shovel just to get out the back door.  LOL.  Anyhow, on to our winners…

The $25 gift certificates from my blogiversary go to Carol from Carol’s Notebook and Lisa S

How to Eat a Cupcake by Meg Donohue — Sherri from Sherri’s Jubilee

Losing Clementine by Ashley Ream — Kathy P from MysteriesEtc

Gossip by Beth Gutcheon — Kaye from Pudgy Penguin Perusals

The Sister Queens by Sophie Perinot — Maureen

Dinner with Lisa by R.L. Prendergast — Diane B

Congrats to everyone!  I hope you’ll enjoy your winnings!  Have a good week everybody!

Sunday Night Book Winners

April 1, 2012 by Darlene

Awwww mommy, don’t bug me – I’m not feeling all that good.  I guess I can manage a Happy Sunday to everyone though!

Happy Sunday everyone.  I hope you’ve all had a great weekend.  We got hit with a mini snow storm this morning so it was back to winter for a bit.  The snow is still on the grass but the roads and sidewalks are already dry.  It’ll be good for all the things that are going to be beginning to grow soon.  It’s been a quiet week here otherwise.  I have no new pics of Sammy for you.  He’s off for a haircut on Tuesday so I’ll make sure to take some there.  I’m still not feeling the best so I haven’t been into picture taking and then Sammy was sick this morning so I doubt he would have wanted the camera pointed at him anyway. Reading is going ok – as a matter of fact once I’m done this post I’m going to go curl up in bed and watch The Killing and read.  So here are the winners for this week:

Abby Finds Her Calling by Naomi King — Wendy from Wall-to-Wall Books and Angela/Griperang

Another Piece of My Heart by Jane Green — Karen B and Margie

The Turning of Anne Merrick by Christine Blevins — the book goes to Carla and the survival kit goes to Bonnie from Redlady’s Reading Room

The White Pearl by Kate Furnivall — Nise from Under the Boardwalk

The Crown by Nancy Bilyeau — Amanda from A Library of My Own

The Reeducation of Cherry Truong by Aimee Phan — Linda K

Congrats to you all and I hope you enjoy your winnings!  Emails are on their way once I get settled under my blankies.  Hope you all have a great week and I’ll be by to visit on your blogs!

Saturday Night Book Winners!

March 24, 2012 by Darlene

We got snow again!  Yup, I’m happy!  Happy Sunday everyone (yes I know it’s Saturday but I usually make my appearances on Sundays)

Good evening everyone!  I hope you’re all having a great weekend.  There won’t be any Sammy this weekend  except for this top picture.  I haven’t been feeling the best and haven’t gotten any new pictures so I’ll be posting a book spotlight tomorrow instead. Sorry.  I’ll try harder for next week.  I’ve been keeping up with my reading thankfully but that’s about it.  I’m reading a pretty good book right now that I’ll be reviewing Monday called Being Lara by Lola Jaye.  I’m liking it!  I hope to do a much better job of visiting blogs next week – I just didn’t have the energy there either so sorry once again.  Tonight however I have a whole bunch of winners for you so without further delay here they are…

Woodrose Mountain by RaeAnne Thayne — Pat L

Embrace by Jessica Shirvington — Linda Kish

An Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff & Alex Tresniowski — Nancye D, nfmgirl, and Jayme @ Beachreader

Girl Talk by Nicole O’Dell — Staci at Life in the Thumb

The King’s Agent by Donna Russo Morin — Na S.

The Sister Queens by Sophie Perinot — Allison M and Lisa G

Blood Orchids by Toby Neal — karenb

Congrats to all and enjoy your books!  I’ll catch up with all the rest of you sometime this week.  I promise!

Sunday Ramblings/Book Winners & Video of the Sock Eating Monster

March 4, 2012 by Darlene

Happy Sunday everyone!

Happy Sunday everyone!  What’s everybody up to this weekend?  Is anyone reading anything really awesome?  I hope none of you are in the areas that have been getting hit so hard with the storms.  If you are my thoughts and prayers are with you.  In comparison I can’t complain about our weather.  It’s been cool but as I said before spring is almost here so that’s ok.  Sammy has been trying valiantly to climb all the snowbanks and I can see that he will get stuck one day and I highly doubt I can lift his heavy butt out.  lol.

So I said last week that I was trying to get some crocheting done and this week I started a simple blanket in knitting.  I took a couple of pictures and I was lazy so I just set them down on the floor and as you can plainly see Sammy had to be right in the middle of them.

The first one is of my knitting – if any of you have made the granny square dish cloths, then this is the same concept.  You can make a blanket the same way by adding stitches until you have your desired size and then decreasing back down.  It actually turns out quite nice and what I like is that it’s easy to do while watching tv or reading on my iPad.

The second one is my crocheting and ignore all the pieces of yarn that aren’t weaved in yet.  This is also really easy to do while watching tv or reading.  I usually shy away from the complicated things that I have to count on because I do like to multitask.  I have such a pile of yarn that I’m thinking of throwing together a few blankets and seeing if the cancer institute here still takes them or we have an old folks home a few blocks away and maybe they’d like them too.  I sure can’t imagine using them all myself.

On the reading front I haven’t been doing too bad.  I read both of Meg Cabot’s books, Insatiable and Overbite and liked both.  Right now I’m reading The King’s Agent by Donna Russo Morin for my review tomorrow and enjoying it.  Here’s what the week looks like….

Monday – Review of The King’s Agent by Donna Russo Morin
Tuesday – Book Spotlight/Giveaway of  Blood Orchids by Toby Neal
Wednesday – Guest Post with Naomi King, author of Abby Finds Her Calling & Giveaway
Thursday – Review of The Turning of Anne Merrick by Christine Blevins
Friday – Book Spotlight/Giveaway of Another Piece of My Heart by Jane Green
Saturday – Book Spotlight/Giveaway of the White Pearl by Kate Furnivall
Sunday – Something to celebrate my Blogiversary which is on March 8!

So another really busy week here on the blog.  I’m not sure what I’ll be doing to celebrate my blogiversary but it’ll be some kind of giveaway I imagine.  I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for 4 years already.  It sure has gone by in a flash!

Now for Sammy this week I thought I’d share this video of him having a jolly good time chasing me around the house to get my sock and then of course he got it.  Watch your volume though as I was laughing and yelping at him while he was almost landing me on my butt.  It’s a bit unsteady as well for obvious reasons – it’s really hard to take video when being attacked by your pup!

And then this was the all innocent Sammy when I showed him just what he had done to aforementioned sock!

Awwwwwwww, come on mommy – it’s not that bad!  It’s just a little teeny tiny hole.  Come on mommy… look how cute I am – you know you can’t resist this face and this oh so pathetic look that I have mastered just for you!

There is certainly never a dull day with Sam in the house.  He continually keeps me on my toes or off of them occasionally.  lol.  If I had even a third of his energy I’d be one happy gal!

Now for some book winners this week…

Diary of a Mad Fat Girl by Stephanie McAfee — Anita Y

Dating the Undead by Gena Showaltter & Jill Monroe — Shelley B

Before She Dies by Mary Burton — Nise from Under the Boardwalk

Sonoma Rose by Jennifer Chiaverini — scottsgal

Day of Honey by Annia Ciezadlo — Rhonda

Congrats to you all!  I hope you’ll enjoy your books and these will be coming to you from the publishers.

Well that’s all for this week.  I don’t think I’ll be up to much this week other than I hope getting ahead on my reading.  I’ve got a ton of organizing in my basement I want to get started on as well so I may tackle that too.  Have a great week everyone!

Sunday Ramblings, Book Winners, and of course Sweet Sammy!

February 26, 2012 by Darlene

Welcome to Winter!

Good Sunday morning everyone although you can see by the above picture that all is not so pleasant here right now.  Yes, that’s right – as usual I spoke too soon about our lovely weather and now look.  We got quite a bit more snow after I took this picture and we had gotten over 10 inches of snow already at the time of me writing this and it was still going pretty good.  It was snowing and blowing and yucky!  I got a kick out of Sam Saturday morning as he didn’t even want to venture out for his first walk.  He braved the second one although we didn’t go far.  It was hilarious though as we went down the alley and he was running inside the tire tracks which were as high as he is.  He’d look side to side and then all of a sudden take a big jump over one.  lol.  Anyhow, while I don’t like snow and icy roads we did need the moisture so I’ll grin and bear it for now.  It’s supposed to snow more today as well so we’ll see how much we end up by the time it’s completely over.  Spring isn’t that far off…  I hope…

I thought I’d update you all on my tests – thank you so much to those of you who sent me emails.  That really meant a lot to me.  The one ultrasound I had I do have to wait for results but the other — the one lump I had was in fact a cyst and while it’s quite big it’s not bothering me and we’re leaving it alone for now.  Unfortunately though I do have one that is not normal and I have to go back in six months for another look.  If I notice any changes or if they do at that time, it’ll be a biopsy.  So, while I’m worried I’m trying not to really think about it for now.  Thank you all for your well wishes and all that good stuff.

Ok, let’s see what’s up for this week.  Well my reading has been going pretty good.  I’m not getting as much done as I’d like to but at least I’m not in a slump.  What I do need to do is clean up this blog a bit and get some monthly updates done and – I know this is bad, but I need to catch up and do last years because I still want a record of my reading for last year.  What am I reading right now – Insatiable by Meg Cabot in preparation for Overbite which I’m reviewing later this week and also The Book of Lost Fragrances by M.J. Rose for later this week as well.  I haven’t started The Book of Lost Fragrances yet but Insatiable is pretty good!  Anyhow, here’s a look at the week ahead…

Monday – Guest Post with Nicole O’Dell, author of Girl Talk and Giveaway
Tuesday – Review of The Book of Lost Fragrances by M.J. Rose
Wednesday – Guest Post with Donna Russo Morin, author of The King’s Agent and Giveaway
Thursday – Guest Post with M.J. Rose, author of The Book of Lost Fragrances
Friday – Review of Overbite by Meg Cabot
Saturday – Book Spotlight and Giveaway of The Sister Queens by Sophie Perinot

Yes, another very busy week.  Oh well hopefully I can do a few posts ahead of time and then it’s not so bad.  I usually sit down during dinner and get my posts done or when Sammy is napping otherwise it’s impossible to concentrate.  So, I hope you’ll all join me for another fun filled week at the blog!

Well I do have a few pictures of Sammy enjoying the snow for you this week.  I’ll tell you though it is close to impossible to get pictures of this guy outside.  He does so many funny things out there until the camera comes outside and then that’s it.  He stops, gives me the ‘look’ and heads for the stairs or if he’s inside the house turns around and walks away.  It is so frustrating!  I hope you enjoy the ones I did manage to get!

Hello everyone!  Boy oh boy there is a lot of snow here to play in.  But… she has that camera…  I’ll just scoot up the stairs instead.  Ooops, I guess not.  She booted my butt back down.  Guess the camera stays.

Kind of hard to see with all this snow blowing in my eyes.  Do you see how big that snowbank is beside me?  Where did that come from?  It wasn’t here last night…

Ok, I’ve rooted through the snow a few times and I’m ready to go in.  The truth is I’m sick of that camera mommy keeps following me around with.  Can’t a puppy just come out and play without being bugged all the time by his mommy.

Ok mommy.  Enough is enough.  Do you see this snow falling on me and my snowy booties?  It’s about time we get inside for that treat of mine!

Now for some book winners and there’s quite a few since I forgot to do the two from last week.  Congrats to all…

The Summer Garden by Sherryl Woods — Kitty

Holly’s Inbox by Holly Denham — Cassandra G

Compulsively Mr. Darcy by Nina Benneton — Karen K

The Firelight of Maalda by Melissa Douthit — Carla

Into the Darkness by V.C. Andrews — Lisa G and Linda K

Far From Here by Nicole Baart — Na S

The Turning of Anne Merrick by Christine Blevins— the books were won by Linda B and Carrie at In the Hammock Blog and the 18th Century Paper Goods were won by Wendy at Wall-to-Wall Books

So, that’s all for this week for me.  What about you guys?  What have you been doing and reading?  I hope you all have a great week.  I’ll be busy trying not to get buried in all my snow.  lol.  Sammy sends out Sammy slurps to all his fans…

Sunday Evening Ramblings & Book Winners

February 12, 2012 by Darlene

Yup, as you can see I am very busy with my sock in my mouth but I thought I’d stop by and say Happy Sunday and Congrats to all you book winners!

Good evening everyone.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was ok.  I did manage to get some reading done despite one of my famed migraines.  What I wouldn’t give to be migraine free some day.  Otherwise not too much has been going on.  Our weather was absolutely beautiful today despite the last few days being really cold.  So, I don’t often do this but at my doc appt a lump was discovered in my breast and I know a lot of you pray and believe in the power of prayer so I’m asking you to send up a few for me.  My appt is on the 23rd for a mammo and ultrasound and I’m just praying to come home with good news.  I’d feel a lot better knowing my friends were praying for me too.

This next week is busy on the blog again – all of February is.  What’s up…

Monday – Review/Giveaway of Sonoma Rose by Jennifer Chiaverini

Tuesday – Book Spotlight/Giveaway of Day of Honey by Annia Ciezadlo (I can’t wait to read this one!)

Wednesday – Review of Paris, My Sweet by Amy Thomas

Thursday – Review of The Night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian

Friday – Review/Giveaway of By the King’s Design by Christine Trent (I haven’t started yet but I am so looking forward to reading some historical fiction finally!)

So, another busy week.  I have no Sammy stories this week or at least none I can remember right now but I do have some book winners for you…

A Demon Does it Better by Linda Wisdom — Serena

Food Allergy and Gluten-Free Weight Loss by Nicolette M. Dumke — Marie

The Night Sky by Maria Sutton — Nancye D

Senseless & Merciless by Mary Burton — Linda B

That’s it for tonight folks.  Let me know what you did this weekend – anything good?  I hope you all have a fantastic week and I hope to do a better job of blog visiting this week than I managed last week.  Sammy sends slurps to all his fans (sorry for only one picture – I’ll have more for you next weekend).  Take care everyone!
