I’m really excited to share with you today the cover reveal for Nancy Bilyeau’s newest novel The Tapestry which is coming in March 2015!  Isn’t it just gorgeous – I love it!  It is Book 3 in the Joanna Stafford series and if you haven’t yet experienced the first two books – The Crown and The Chalice – then I urge you to indulge yourself.  These books are what historical fiction is all about and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of The Tapestry myself.  I’m going to tell you about the book and the author and be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the post for a chance to win a copy for yourself.

Genre: Historical Mystery
Series: Joanna Stafford, Book Three

In THE CROWN, Sister Joanna Stafford searched for a Dark Ages relic that could save her priory from Cromwell’s advancing army of destruction. In THE CHALICE, Joanna was drawn into an international conspiracy against Henry VIII himself as she struggled to learn the truth behind a prophecy of his destruction.

Now, in THE TAPESTRY, Joanna Stafford finally chooses her own destiny.

After her Dominican priory in Dartford closed forever—collateral damage in tyrannical King Henry VIII’s quest to overthrow the Catholic Church—Joanna resolves to live a quiet and honorable life weaving tapestries, shunning dangerous quests and conspiracies. Until she is summoned to Whitehall Palace, where her tapestry weaving has drawn the King’s attention.

Joanna is uncomfortable serving the King, and fears for her life in a court bursting with hidden agendas and a casual disregard for the virtues she holds dear. Her suspicions are confirmed when an assassin attempts to kill her moments after arriving at Whitehall.

Struggling to stay ahead of her most formidable enemy yet, an unknown one, she becomes entangled in dangerous court politics. Her dear friend Catherine Howard is rumored to be the King’s mistress. Joanna is determined to protect young, beautiful, naïve Catherine from becoming the King’s next wife and, possibly, victim.

Set in a world of royal banquets and feasts, tournament jousts, ship voyages, and Tower Hill executions, this thrilling tale finds Joanna in her most dangerous situation yet, as she attempts to decide the life she wants to live: nun or wife, spy or subject, rebel or courtier. Joanna Stafford must finally choose.

Cover Attraction (Dec 16)

December 16, 2009 by Darlene

Cover Attraction is hosted by The Printed Page and spotlights a book cover that we find beautiful, or interesting, one that entices, and invites us to stop and take a peek instead of walking right on by.

My cover attraction this week is a book called Maggie’s Girl by Sally Wragg. It’s to be released December 31/09 by Robert Hale Ltd. Here’s a bit about the book from Fantastic Fiction…

The year is 1938 and Maggie Bates, widowed for nine years and blissfully unaware of the explosive family secret threatening to tear her family apart, has returned to her roots. In the Derbyshire town of Castle Maine, the industrialist and entrepreneur, Silas Bradshaw, still casts his giant shadow. But Maggie, now a mature woman, determines to put her past firmly behind her and forge a new life for herself and her two children, Holly and Harry. Fuelled by a looming threat from across the channel, family tensions rise to boiling point and the tangled web of lies surrounding Maggie’s true parentage is in grave danger of unravelling with shattering consequences.

Not only do I like the cover but the book sounds really good as well. How about you – did any covers catch your eye this week?

Cover Attraction (Dec 9)

December 9, 2009 by Darlene

Cover Attraction is hosted by The Printed Page which spotlights a book cover that we find beautiful, or interesting, one that entices, and invites us to stop and take a peek instead of walking right on by.

My Cover Attraction pick for this week is a book called Casting Off by Nicole R. Dickson. It was released on July 28/09 by NAL Trade. I just love this cover and the story itself sounds really good. Here’s a bit about it from Amazon.com…

Casting Off:

1. Ending a knitted work.
2. Releasing lines holding a boat to its mooring.
3. Letting go…

On a tiny island off the west coast of Ireland, the fishermen’s handmade sweaters tell a story. Each is unique-feelings stitched into rows, memories into patterns.

It is here that Rebecca Moray comes to research a book on Irish knitting. With her daughter, Rowan, accompanying her, she hopes to lose herself in the history of the island and forget her own painful past. Soon, the townsfolk’s warm embrace wraps Rebecca and Rowan in a world of friendship, laughter, and love.

And it is here that young Rowan befriends Sean Morahan, a cantankerous old fisherman, despite his attempts to scare her off. As Rebecca watches her daughter interact with Morahan, she recognizes in his eyes a look that speaks of a dark knowledge not unlike her own. And when current storms threaten to resurrect old ones, Morahan and Rebecca find themselves on a collision course-with Rowan caught between them-each buffeted by waves of regret and recrimination. Only by walking headfirst into the winds will they find the faith to forgive without forgetting…and reach the shore.

I love the cover and I’d like to read the book. How about you – any covers catch your eye this week?

Cover Attraction (July 29)

July 29, 2009 by Darlene

Cover Attraction is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. This is what she has to say, ‘I’m a very visual person and love beautiful, or interesting, cover art. It entices, and invites, me to stop and take a peek instead of walking right on by.’

Me too! My cover attraction this week is a book called Wake by Robert J Sawyer. It is apparently the first book in the WWW Series and along with a great cover it sounds really good too. This book was released on April 7, 2009 by Ace. Here’s a bit about it from Fantastic Fiction…

‘One of the foremost science fiction writers of our generation’ (SF Site) comes to Ace with a trilogy of the Web’s awakening.

Caitlin Decter is young, pretty, feisty, a genius at math – and blind. Still, she can surf the net with the best of them, following its complex paths clearly in her mind. But Caitlin’s brain long ago co-opted her primary visual cortex to help her navigate online. So when she receives an implant to restore her sight, instead of seeing reality, the landscape of the World Wide Web explodes into her consciousness, spreading out all around her in a riot of colors and shapes. While exploring this amazing realm, she discovers something – some other – lurking in the background. And it’s getting more and more intelligent with each passing day.

I wouldn’t mind reading it but I most definitely love the cover. I think the use of color is amazing and it just makes me feel like I’m floating. What about you? What cover caught your attention this week? Share in the comments or leave me your link.

Cover Attraction (July 8)

July 8, 2009 by Darlene

Cover Attraction is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. This is what she has to say, ‘I’m a very visual person and love beautiful, or interesting, cover art. It entices, and invites, me to stop and take a peek instead of walking right on by.’

I’m exactly the same way. This week’s cover attraction is a novel called Bird in Hand by Christina Baker Kline. This book will be released August 11, 2009 by William Morrow. Here’s a bit about it from Fantastic Fiction…

The accident was just that – an accident. It was dark, it was raining, Alison had two drinks in her, and the other car ran the stop sign. She just didn’t get out of the way fast enough. But now a little boy – not her own – is dead, and Alison finds herself trapped under the twin burdens of grief and guilt, and feeling increasingly estranged from her husband…Charlie, who has his own burdens.

He’s in a job he doesn’t love so that Alison can stay home with the kids (and why isn’t she more grateful for that?); he has a house in the suburbs and a long commute to and from the city each day. And the only thing he can focus on these days is his secret, sudden affair with…Claire, Alison’s best friend. Bold where Alison is reserved; vibrant where Alison is demure, Claire has just had her first novel published, a thinly-veiled retelling of her childhood in South Carolina (which is also Alison’s, in a sense).

But even in the whirlwind of publication, Claire can’t stop wondering if she should leave her husband…Ben, an architect who is thoughtful, kind, and patient. And who wants nothing more than a baby, or two – in fact, exactly the kind of life that Charlie and Alison have…

Why do I like the cover? I think it’s just the innocence of her hands outstretched with the nest, like an offering. I just think it’s beautiful. The story sounds good as well. What about you? Did you find any covers this week that just grabbed your attention? Let me know in the comments or share your link with me.

Cover Attraction (July 1)

Cover Attraction is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. This is what she has to say, ‘I’m a very visual person and love beautiful, or interesting, cover art. It entices, and invites, me to stop and take a peek instead of walking right on by.’

Me too! This week’s cover attraction is by an author I’ve not read before. The book is called Nothing Lasts Forever by Maureen Lee. I’m not sure who is releasing the book as I can’t find it on Amazon yet but her past ones have been by Orion Publishing Group. Anyhow, this one will be released on September 1, 2009 according to Fantastic Fiction. Also from Fantastic Fiction a bit about the book…

Brodie Logan’s idyllic life with her once-loving husband, Colin, seems to have come to an end. So when she lets out the big house in Liverpool with its enchanting garden where she grew up, she decides to leave Colin and share the house with the other women who have come to live there. First, there is twenty-five year old Diana, so innocent and childlike, yet terribly practical having raised her three younger brothers to be fine young men. But Diana suddenly finds there is no place for her in the only home she has ever known. Then there is Vanessa, once a successful career woman, now miserable and overweight, who still can’t get over the shock of an unexpected rejection. And finally, Rachel, barely fifteen, with her baby daughter, Poppy, who some people seem determined to take away from her. As they while away the brilliant summer under the trees in the lovely garden of the big house, friendships form that will last a lifetime. But it isn’t all a bed of roses; bad things happen too – after all, nothing lasts forever. This enchanting, contemporary novel’s warmth and quiet mystery shows once again that Maureen Lee is quite the exceptional storyteller.

I like the cover because it’s so pretty and I’m always attracted to pretty covers. It looks like some place I’d like to be. The story sounds wonderful too. It seems to be a novel about the friendships between women and you all know how I like those.

So, what covers have caught your attention this week? Let me know in the comments or leave me a link to your post.
