Monthly Reads Wrap Up 2009

Favorite Books of 2009

January 1, 2010 by Darlene

Gosh it’s hard to pick favorites out of over 100 books. You’d think it would be easier but it’s not especially if you’ve enjoyed a lot of the books you’ve read. I tried to narrow it down but didn’t do the best job as you will see (for a few authors I listed both of their books-lol)…

Favorites (in no particular order):

  1. The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister
  2. Galway Bay by Mary Pat Kelly
  3. The Traitor’s Wife and Hugh & Bess by Susan Higginbotham
  4. Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler
  5. The Laws of Harmony by Judith Ryan Hendricks
  6. The Painter from Shanghai by Jennifer Cody Epstein
  7. Holly’s Inbox by Holly Denham (Bill Surie)
  8. Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross
  9. Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran
  10. The Kingmaking and Pendragon’s Banner by Helen Hollick

Favorite authors this year (in no particular order):

  • Michelle Moran
  • Laurie Viera Rigler
  • Karen White
  • Susan Higginbotham
  • Helen Hollick

New to me authors that I’ll be reading more from:

  • Lloyd Lofthouse
  • Sandra Gulland
  • Jennie Nash
  • Nicole Baart
  • Julie Buxbaum

And I could probably go on and on but I’ll stop here. I’ve had a great year of reading and was lucky enough to read many fantastic books. I’m looking forward to the same in 2010!

I figured I’d better get my wrap up done for November before I forget again. So here goes…

  1. Knit the Season by Kate Jacobs (272 pgs) (November)
  2. The House on Tradd Street by Karen White (352 pgs) (November)
  3. The Frozen Thames by Helen Humphreys (192 pgs) (November)
  4. The Peruke Maker by Ruby Dominguez (124 pgs) (November)
  5. Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran (448 pgs) (November)
  6. After You by Julie Buxbaum (352 pgs) (November)
  7. Now & Then by Jacqueline Sheehan (400 pgs) (November)
  8. The Magic Warble by Victoria Simcox (276 pgs) (November)

I guess I did ok all things considering this month. As of the end of November I was at 99 books but I’ve got a couple reviews already for December and a few more to write so I’ve met my goal of 100+ for the year early! Yahooooooooooooooo for me!

My favorites were The House on Tradd Street, Cleopatra’s Daughter, After You and Now & Then. I can’t pick an absolute favorite as I really liked them all.

So, onward to December reading now. Wow, I can’t believe how fast another year has flown by. How is everyone else doing with their reading goals with the end of the year creeping up on us so quickly?

Geez, I’m just finally getting around to posting my wrap up for October. I didn’t get a whole lot of books read but I did read some good ones. Here they are…

Let’s see my favorite was Pendragon’s Banner for sure with Haunting Bombay and The Last Will of Moira Leahy right there too.

September 2009 Wrap Up

October 10, 2009 by Darlene

Well as you’re about to see September was not a good month for reading at my house. My dog was sick and my dad wasn’t doing well at all. All that combined stress doesn’t make for me being able to concentrate on much of anything. I ended up knitting more than reading. Anyhow, here is what I was able to read for September – a measly 4 books – how embarrassing.

  1. The Promised World by Lisa Tucker
  2. Between Me and the River by Carrie Host
  3. Laced With Magic by Barbara Bretton
  4. House and Home by Kathleen McCleary

On a good note, I’m at 85 books this year with these four and I’ve read a couple since here in October so I’m at 88 read so I’m pretty sure I’ll make my 100 books read for the year.

My favorites of these were House and Home by Kathleen McCleary and Between Me and the River by Carrie Host.
