Sunday Ramblings

October 10, 2021 by Darlene

Happy Sunday! Wow this week seems to have flown by. Sam wasn’t in the mood for picture taking this week so this is an older one. He’s funny about the camera. You’ve got to move fast if you want a picture because as soon as he sees camera he turns away. Smart little bugger!

I finally made it through Fall if Giants! I am so happy to be done with it. There were parts that I liked but a lot of it dragged. I’ll eventually review it but I’ve got to let it sit for a while. My next buddy read with my book club friend is The House Guests by Emilie Richards and I’m really looking forward to it. I started Lisa Unger’s newest called Last Girl Ghosted and I’m really enjoying the audio. I should have a review up this week. I also finished Hour of the Witch by Chris Bohjalian and all I can say is wow. Be ready for some gushing in my review this week. Today I hope to finish Last Girl Ghosted as the weather isn’t the best anyway.

I’m not sure what this week will hold. I need to take my computer in to get fixed, Sam’s hair needs to be cut, and I’ve got a doctor appointment so the week will likely fly by as usual. All the yard work is finished so we’re all ready for winter. This time of year always makes me sad. Anyone have any plans for the week ahead?

Well that’s all for today. Hope you’re all having a wonderful Sunday doing what you love to do.

Sunday Ramblings

October 3, 2021 by Darlene

Happy Sunday! My dog and his socks! I wish he loved bones as much as socks but no. I have never been able to get him to chew bones. Oh well he likes playing chase with his socks or just walking around crying with them in his mouth. It cracks me up. I’m not sure if he’s crying because he can’t decide where to bury them or some other doggie reason. Either way it’s cute.

So I didn’t really get a lot read this week. I made it through Phantom Limb by Lucinda Berry. I’m still working on Fall of Giants by Ken Follett and hope to finish it this week. I’m also almost done with Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr and I’m planning on having that review up tomorrow. I had my book club meeting with my library group. We had read Watching You Without Me by Lynn Coady. The decision on that one was split. Some really liked it and others not as much. I was in the not as much group but it was still fun to discuss.

In other news I broke a piece of my back tooth off. I need to get that fixed. I think I likely had a fracture in it for a while and ignored it. I have to wait a bit though as I get sedated for dental work. On a good note though no cavities! Not much else is going on here with Covid as bad as it is right now other than a lot of visiting outside with my neighbour trying to enjoy what’s left of the warm weather while it lasts. The picture below is of my apple tree. It’s really turned yellow in the past week. Let’s see, oh I was going to mention what I was watching while anxiously awaiting the season of Dexter that’s coming. I watched one on Netflix called Midnight Mass. It was really good. Has anyone watched it?

That’s all for this week. I’m going to relax and read. It’s too cold today for sitting outside. It looks like it’s going to be too cold to sit out the whole week. Ugggh, I’m not ready for winter! Hope everyone is having a great Sunday doing whatever makes you happy!

Sunday Ramblings

September 26, 2021 by Darlene

Happy Sunday to all! I hope everyone is having a nice weekend doing whatever it is that brings you joy. It is becoming very fall’ish here already with the leaves starting to turn color and the much cooler mornings and nights. We’ve already gotten the yard ready for the inevitable snow that will come sooner rather than later I’m sure. This time of year always bothers me with the garden veggies done and the flowers no longer blooming. We do have a couple of plants still hanging in there though. One is this pink basket that is still blooming despite the colder temps and the other is one of my lavender plants. I’ve found that I really enjoy growing lavender and I actually manage not to kill it. I really like this one though with its branches that overflow it’s pot with very pretty flowers.

Well I’ve made it two weeks blogging now and I think it’s going to last this time. This past week has been a slow reading week because I’m trying to make my way through the audio of Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. It’s a Buddy read with my book club friend Millenia and wow it’s a big one. The audio is about 30 hours and not all of it is very interesting. Either way I’ll finish it this week and then move on. I’ve also got an online book club on Monday night with my library. It was supposed to be in person finally but sadly the COVID is really bad here right now so it’s been moved online. The book is called Watching You Without Me by Lynn Coady. It’s an ok read for me but I’m only halfway through so it may get better.

So that’s about it for me. I’ve been listening to podcasts this morning but I’m going to settle in soon and finish this library book. Sammy says hi to everyone. He’s had a good week trying to get into as much mischief as he can which of course he gets away with because he’s so darn cute!

Have a great week everyone!

Sunday Ramblings

May 31, 2020 by Darlene

Happy Sunday everyone! I can’t believe how fast this week flew by. What has everyone been up to? Are more places opening up in your area? They have been here. However they opened up some skating parks and such and ended up closing them again as people weren’t practicing social distancing. When I’ve been out most people aren’t even wearing masks. It’s so hard to know what to do anymore with it being such a different reality.

Well the garden is in and has started growing. It really came up fast this year. I was surprised. We’ve got tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, carrots, onions, and potatoes planted. I love summer for all these signs of life. It just makes a person feel better to feel the sun on your face and see flowers and things growing again.

I did miss a couple of days for posts but I’m pretty impressed that I remember most of the time. I still have a backlog of reviews to write. I’m just finishing the audio of When You Disappeared by John Marrs. I really enjoy his books. I’ll likely have the review up on Monday. I also reread The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley for my book club. I had read it before but I was curious to see if I still liked it as much. I’m happy to say I’d still give it 5 stars. This time though I’m planning on finishing up the whole series. The only other thing I did this past week was give Sam a haircut and a bath. He’s ok with a bath but he hates a haircut now with a passion.

That’s about all for me this week. Not much planned other than getting my hair done. It’ll be really weird to wear a mask and gloves in the hair salon. Hope you all have a great week ahead!

Sunday Ramblings

May 24, 2020 by Darlene

Happy Sunday! Well it’s certainly been a long time since I’ve done one of these but it’s one of the things I want to get back to doing every Sunday. Sharing the happenings of the week and a photo of Sammy was always something I enjoyed doing.

It’s been a crazy world these past few months full of so much uncertainty and even though things are starting to open back up, it’s to a strange new normal. Losing my mom last year and then this virus has been a struggle for me. Worrying about my dad as his health isn’t the best and even myself being that I have a compromised immune system has been rough. How has everyone been doing? How have you managed to cope with this new normal?

It has been a pretty good week getting book reviews up. I’m pretty impressed I kept up with it and I’m enjoying it so I think that this time the blog is likely back up for good. It’s still not too summery here. We’ve had rain most of the week but this next week is looking better so I’m hoping to be able to sit outside and read a bit.

Sam has been pretty good. He still has all his health issues but has been really stable lately and for that I’m grateful. He needs to get his teeth done as soon as things are back up to normal at the vets office and that has me worried. He’s never been one to chew bones so his teeth aren’t the best and he’s not so young anymore. It’s hard to believe that he will be ten years old in August. It seems like just yesterday he was a puppy.

Well that’s all for this week. I hope that all of you are staying safe and well. 💕

The Loss of my Mom and Going Forward…

April 8, 2019 by Darlene

There are many of you who follow me on Facebook who know that my mom passed away on March 2 of this year.  It was very unexpected and the loss has devastated me.  My mom and I fought all the time – well not all, but we loved each other just as fiercely.  She was my friend and confidant and I’m quite lost without her.   She has left a huge hole in my life and my dads and at this point I don’t feel as though I’ll ever move past this deep loss and hurt.  Anyhow I wanted to acknowledge the loss here on my blog where I’ve shared many things throughout the years.

Through other hard times in my life I turned to blogging so I’m going to try concentrating on it again.  I really want to write short reviews and I’m going to attempt that this week but I will likely share thoughts on my mom and just getting through some days as well.

Reading and listening to books hasn’t been going the best.  Im having a really hard time concentrating so not much is getting finished.  I did finish The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver for my face to face bookclub.  I listened to it and while I loved it years ago when I read it I didn’t enjoy it so much this time.  I think it was just too much of a novel for me at this point.  Now I’m listening to Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen for my other book club and I’m enjoying it.

So that’s all for now.  Hope everyone is doing well.  I’ll leave you all with a pic of Sammy and I hope to see you all over the next while as I make my way through this new reality of life I find myself in.
