Sunday Ramblings & Pictures of Sammy

January 2, 2011 by Darlene

Good morning everyone! How did everyone fare over New Years? Any major hangovers? Not for me. I’m not much of a drinker – I like a few glasses of wine or Baileys but that’s about it. I had a very quiet New Years – I was sleeping. lol. My best friend of over 20 years came by for supper and Sammy was very obnoxious all day long. He wouldn’t settle down and wouldn’t sleep so consequently his mommy spent most of her day chasing him around and not really getting to visit much. When she left I was exhausted so Sam and I went and laid down and that’s about all I remember. lol.

Sammy is still quite the handful. So much for getting a nice calm dog this time. I’m sure Buddy’s spirit is lurking in this little guy. Not to mention he is getting big! I weighed him yesterday and he’s almost 13 lbs now – he’s furry and heavy. The breed is supposed to be 7-13 lbs but obviously Sammy is going to be much bigger. The vet figures around 20 lbs, maybe a bit more. The nice thing is he’s quite rugged – you don’t have to worry about being too gentle with him. He is still bad with his biting but at least this week all my body parts are in one piece.

I wouldn’t give him up for anything though. I love him dearly already and I can only imagine how much more it will be over the next years. He loves to cuddle in bed and I really like that. It’s so sweet when he puts his head up on the pillow with me and takes a nibble from my ear. I know I’ll miss the puppy stage when he grows up even though it’s driving me crazy so I try not to wish him to get older for any reason.

On the reading front I’m not doing the best. I really need to buckle down this week and get some books read. I thought I’d get so much read over Christmas and really read pretty much nothing. What I’m working on now is Beneath the Thirteen Moons by Kathryne Kennedy, Tropic of Night by Michael Gruber and The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. If I really buckled down I know I could finish them this week. Later this week I’ll have my self-imposed challenges posted. I’ve got 5 challenges that I’m going to try hard to finish so we’ll see.

I don’t have too many pictures of Sammy this week. I forgot to take any so there’s only a few. I do have a couple of Sammy and I together. Not the best pictures but they’ll have to do for now. I seriously need a visit to my hairdresser but we all know how crazy things have been for me these past few months. I’ll get there soon I hope.

Hmmmm, what’s in here I wonder? I love those little pom-poms!
Hey, I’ve almost got one of those things out of here! What fun!
Sammy and mommy! Mommy, this isn’t a very good picture – you’re showing off all my private parts you know. lol. But geez, I am one cute puppy!
Awwww, mommy loves Sammy!

That’s it for this week. I can’t believe it’s already 2011 – time sure does fly by. So how about the rest of you? What have you got planned for the week? What are you all reading this week? I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Sunday Ramblings & Some Pictures of Sammy

December 26, 2010 by Darlene

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Ours was very quiet – my parents went to my cousins place for dinner but I stayed home with the Sammy Bear. I wasn’t about to leave him alone yet. Plus, to be truthful, I wasn’t yet in a celebrating mood. Losing Buddy really took it out of me this year and I just wanted quiet and that’s what I got and I was happy with it. I played with Sammy, got him a few toys, and for my trouble got bit in the nose. He got me good too with his sharp little tooth inside my poor little nose and all I was trying for was a kiss. lol.

I finished a good book last week called Beach Roses by Jean Stone and I’ll have a review up later this week. Yesterday I read some of The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly and finished up Dating Mr. December by Phillipa Ashley of which I’ll have a review this week too. Today I think I’ll probably read a bit more of The Winter Rose and start something new. I have several books in my currently reading folder on my Kindle.

So, that’s about it. Sammy Bear is still a bundle of energy. He just doesn’t quit when he’s awake. He goes from one thing to the next – the cutest is the way he sits still for a minute and looks all around himself at just what he can get into next. His newest is chewing the plastic on his pee pads and running away. That may not be so bad if it was actually possible to catch him and get the plastic out of his mouth. Obviously his biting hasn’t gotten a lot better if my nose is any indication. This one is bound and determined to keep on biting people.

I’m going to venture into unknown territory soon and give him a haircut – just take a bit off. It’s too cold here for a real haircut. I may have to muzzle him to do it though. lol. Oh and he’s gotten better outside only because we found these soft treats that he loves! I cut them up into a few pieces and now he knows – he finishes his business, runs up the steps, into the door and promptly sits down and looks up for his treat. It’s really cute.

Well that’s it for this week folks! I hope you’re still enjoying your holiday time and relaxing reading a book or something. That’s what I fully intend to do! Here’s some pictures to hopefully brighten up your day…

Here’s our tree up on the table so that Sammy can’t get at it. He did attempt a few times to pull on that lace but then gave up. I wanted to take one at night but it still comes out looking like this.

Why, oh why can’t I go down there??? Hmmmmm, could it be that I was bad??? No, I doubt it – it just couldn’t be that. Look at me – look how sweet I am – I’m not bad.
She’s watching me right now…but just wait till she looks away for a second…
See, I told you she’d look away. Boy the corner of this new bed mommy bought me tastes real good!
Well…I guess I’ll give mommy a break for a bit. I’m really tired after all that carousing around. It wears a puppy out.

This last picture is of one of those bed pillows we have that we folded in half and stitched. Sammy folded himself right up into it – that’s his tail to the left of him. lol. Till next week everyone…Have a great week!

Sunday Ramblings & Sammy Pics/Video

December 12, 2010 by Darlene

Good morning everyone! It’s snowy and cold here – it hasn’t been winter for long and I’m already tired of it. Not much going on today except for getting the tree decorated which should be interesting since it’s sitting on top of an end table. Other than that I really hope to catch up on some more reading if the little guy will let me.

Sammy has now mastered the outside steps to the backdoor and the one into the house. He’s been scared of that one but the other day he just jumped right on over and has been since. The same with the house stairs – all of a sudden he just seemed to know what to do to get up them. It’s kind of cute how he goes up though – kinda sideways. He still hasn’t attempted going down but I hope he does soon so I can quit carting him around although that will give him even more opportunities to sneak off and destroy things without me knowing. Otherwise he’s just been raining havoc on the house as usual. I put his toys away each night and each morning he proceeds to scatter them across the living room. I’ll get a video of that mess next week.

On a different note Sammy is quite destructive. He destroys every toy I give him. I bought him a nice fleece blanket with a cute little paw sewn into it. Well it now has a very big hole because he’s trying his hardest to eat the paw. Yet another thing on my list to try to repair. Those rope toys – he pulls the strings out within minutes. Buddy had those for years without mishap. It’s just unreal – I have no words for the damage this one can do if he feels like it. I will say though right now I think he’s teething really bad because when he chews on my hand he’s chewing extra hard.

I think the most fun is that he doesn’t know stop or stay so as he thinks everything is a game it’s often quite impossible to catch him. On top of it he’s not really fond of treats so I’m not sure how I’m going to go about training him. Of course I praise him when he does something right but still I need some way of rewarding him. He’s really smart so I know he can learn – he’s also very stubborn and only does what he wants most of the time. I know I’ve said this a million times already but he is a handful and a half. I’m just amazed that one little fellow can get into so much trouble. Stop watching him for one second and he’s found something to get into or destroy. lol.

On the reading front I’m still working on The Forever Queen by Helen Hollick. It’s a chunkster and I fit reading in between chasing the dog. I should have it finished in the next day or so though. That’s the only book I’m concentrating on — I have several others to catch up though and I hope by the end of January I’m at least caught up on the ones I recently had committed to like in August and September.

The video I’m going to share with you today is how much fun I have with Sammy outside (please ignore the doggie do piles). In this video you’ll see that Sammy is learning to bark and bark quite well and loudly. He also hates my big white boots which you can’t see but which he is barking up a storm at and trying to attack.

So, what has everyone else been up to this weekend? Are you all ready for Christmas? Did you manage any reading this weekend? I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead!

Sunday Ramblings and Sammy Pics & Video

December 5, 2010 by Darlene

Good Sunday morning everyone from Sammy and me!

Wow, another week gone by and so fast. My week has been busy as usual keeping track of a very active puppy named Sammy! My goodness this little guy is full of it but he’s a sweetheart and I am so very glad to have him.

He hasn’t really done a lot new this week although he did make it up our back step into the house by himself and up the back porch steps. I think he even surprised himself. It was really cute and then of course he took off in his coat and boots and I had to catch him.

He hasn’t changed outside – he’s still just as bad as ever. We did have to fence in our garden because he was using that as a personal playground and he would run laps so fast I was scared he was going to break something on the outer box of the garden. Have you ever thought of playing dodge with a puppy? Well that’s pretty much what Sammy and I do, either with something in his mouth or without. He will stand and watch me and if I make a move one way or the other, he takes off. It’s just unbelievable to me how something so little could be so smart.

He still loves to bite and chew everything, mostly his mommy’s hands and clothes. He’s funny now though you tell him no for something he turns away from it and flops over on his back for a belly rub. It’s too cute. I just wish he’d do that outside instead of acting like a crazed dog. lol. He does not even remotely like to be brushed and we’re going to tackle a bath today so that could be interesting too. He does love his belly rubs and he loves to cuddle in bed – he is a sweetie.

Ok, now that I’ve rambled on about Sammy forever I should move on to bookish things before we get to pictures. I’m finishing Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning and about halfway through The Forever Queen by Helen Hollick. I am enjoying both a great deal. There’s a bunch of other ones I’m going to be reading to catch up with all that I missed in the last few months and I hope to finish them all before the end of December – that’s the plan anyway. I did my yearly wrap up yesterday because for me 2010 wasn’t a good year and I just want to get everything wrapped up for it and move on; you can see my results here.

Now for some pictures and I even managed to figure out how to get a video of Sammy chasing his tail for you. He is hilarious when he does that and he can sure spend a good amount of time doing it too. Here is Sammy starting his 15th week of life..

This is Sammy’s ‘I’m seeing what I can get into next look since I’m already done with this blanket.’ This blanket, by the way, is the one I bought him so he’d stop chewing the one on the couch. Needless to say it was a useless purchase – lol.
Aren’t I the cutest!!!
Mommy doesn’t know yet that I’m chewing the rubber right off this toy. Unfortunately for me I think shes’ gonna soon and yet another of my toys is going to be gone.

Hee hee, this is where I hide from mommy. Needless to say Sammy doesn’t know yet but mommy is more than willing to crawl under the table to get him if necesssary.

And here is the promised video of Sammy chasing his tail! Enjoy! As you can see once he realized he was on camera he took off. lol.

That’s it for this week everyone. I hope you enjoyed the pictures, video and tales of Sammy’s adventures in life. What has everyone been up to this weekend? I hope you all have a fantastic week!

Sunday Ramblings & Sammy Pictures!

November 28, 2010 by Darlene

Good Sunday morning everyone! Well it’s been one heck of a week. I guess I don’t remember just how much work a puppy can be because Sammy is wearing me out. By the time 9pm rolls around, I’m ready for bed. He never quits. I thank my lucky stars when he finally naps because the rest of the time is a battle – lol.

He’s quite the character though. He loves chasing his tail and it’s pretty funny. I tried to get a picture but it didn’t work for this week so maybe next week. He’s a complete brat outside. His new game is running laps through our garden and it’s impossible to catch him. We definitely need to break him of that because we don’t need him in the garden in the summer. He puts everything in his mouth outside, including dirt, and then runs away from me so I can’t get it out.

Sammy has a list of offenses that is huge. This post would be too long for you all to read. lol. We have had to put gates up to all the bedrooms because he will go in and get under the beds and chew what he can find or try to pull the blankets off the bed. He tries to pull the mat out from under his food bowl and I already had to take the one out from under his other water bowl in the house because he was pulling it up and dumping the water. His other new thing to do is when he has to pee he goes running a hundred miles an hour to his pee pads but I manage to catch him and take him outside. The only time I don’t is when he sneaks off on me but at least he’s being good and going on the pee pads at least. Oh and lest I forgot Sammy’s biggest offense is that he likes to chew my books! Yes I did say books – uggggggggggggggggh!!! As you can see there is never a dull moment in the adventures of Sammy.

What else is going on – let’s see in reading I’ll have a few reviews out this week. I have a few tours for TLC Book Tours that I didn’t get to in November that I’m now catching up on. I feel so bad for having missed my tour dates but I was in no shape to write reviews. Then I still have some reviews for the books I was reading that are mostly fluff reads from last month. Right now I’m reading a few books – I have so many started that I’m amazed I can keep track of them. I’m focusing this week on finishing up Outside the Ordinary World by Dori Ostermiller and The Forever Queen by Helen Hollick.

Now for some pictures of my sweet little monster…

This is Sammy trying his hardest to chew on the tie of my pants. He will literally pull it and I mean hard to try to get it out of my pants. He’s nothing if not extremely determined.

I put this blanket out on the couch when Sammy first came home because it’s nice and soft. Now he will not lay and sleep on the couch without it so I guess it’s there to stay.

As you can see Sammy has no shortage of toys and he will have yet more today as I plan on hitting PetSmart to buy him more. More as in some kind of chew toys and you will know why in the next picture.
Yes, Sammy considers Mommy his very own personal chew toy. Heck I guess the bones on my hand are just as good as any I’ve bought him to chew. As you can see I have a bandage on my thumb where I lost a wrestling match for my pants last night. Anyhow, isn’t he the cutest in this picture?

Well that’s all for this week. I’ll make sure to get one of him chasing his tail for you next week- actually a video would be great. So what’s everyone up to – did you do anything this weekend or just having a relaxing time? I hope you all have a great week – reading and otherwise!

Hey Everyone – Meet My New Baby – Sammy!

November 21, 2010 by Darlene

This is my boy Sammy!

Hi everyone, I think I’m finally ready to start blogging again. It’s been a hard, tough road these last weeks and still is but I’m feeling more ready to face things again.

Being without Buddy has been a horrible experience for me. I miss him everyday and still cry probably more than I should but who’s to say what’s really normal right? Instead of feeling any better I found I was feeling worse and focusing so much on all the things I missed without Buddy here. I would just walk around the house seeing him everywhere and wanting him back. So many people, including a lot of my extended family, said that getting another dog was the best medicine. Since nothing else was working and I felt I was falling deeper and deeper into a hole I may not pull out of, I jumped in and got a new puppy.

This is where Sammy will enter the picture at Peeking Between the Pages. I will treat all of you weekly with his growing up years and plenty of pictures. Sammy is a purebred Havanese and he’s 3 months and a week old as of yesterday and he’s quite the puppy. He’s completely full of it and of himself and he’s the biggest handful I’ve tackled in a while. I think I forgot what a puppy was like or it’s just that Sammy is one of those more active ones. He goes and goes – just like an energizer bunny and those teeth of his – yikes. He loves to bite and he loves to chew – anything and everything! This may sound strange but I asked Buddy to send me a puppy he would approve of and the next week I found Sammy. Sammy not only looks like Buddy did as a puppy (I did want a puppy that looked like Buddy), he also has many of his traits. They are so much alike which is weird being two very different breeds that it’s scary sometimes. It’s also very comforting to me.

Sammy is a great pup though. He loves to eat and that’s something that makes me so happy as those last months with Buddy were rough when he wouldn’t eat. He’s very playful and good natured – except for you know – the puppy stuff- getting into everything and biting and chewing whatever he can find including my hands on a regular basis. However I do know and was prepared for the puppy years so we’ll make it. It’s funny I’m not normally a patient person but when it comes to puppies I have a ton of patience.

I was also worried that I would get a new puppy and he’d love someone else in the house more than me. You know how that happens sometimes but thankfully I didn’t have to worry. I got Sammy at a breeder and when I walked in he was in a pen playing with his brother. He saw me and from that moment he was trying his darndest to get to me. I leaned in to pet him and his brother and he was practically crawling up my arm. Truth be told I noticed him right away when I came in the door. I picked him up and the rest is history. I was in love and from that moment on he was my puppy. He follows me everywhere and cries when he can’t see me. He sleeps in between my pillows on our bed and I’ll wake up to a puppy nose touching mine – it’s really so sweet. He loves to cuddle and have some part of us touching at night.

So while I miss Buddy and always will – he was my first and most precious baby – I know that Sammy also has a huge place in my heart already that will only get bigger as the years pass. He’s sweet, he loves me totally and he needs me. I needed that. Here are a bunch of pictures of Sammy below for you to enjoy. I hope you’ll all welcome him and come to love him as much as I already do.

I’m going to try to get back into blogging starting this week and get to visiting some blogs again. I really miss so many of you and knowing what’s going on in your lives. Again I’d love to thank so many of you for being there for me especially Heather for going that extra mile to try to cheer me up when I needed it – love ya my blogging friend! Thank you to Helen, Janel, Kathy, Bonnie, Carla, Nise, Wendy, Amy, Staci, Millenia, Mary, Fe and my Page Turner gal pals for always checking up on me and the cards – you all are awesome women and friends. I love and appreciate each one of you. Thank you…

Here’s Sammy… Oh and he loves winter as you can tell – I put his coat and booties on and he jumps in the snow – he loves it! Considering where we live and it’s winter 6 months out of the year, this is a very good thing.

I hope you all have a great week! I’ll be hopefully getting some reviews out this week and doing some visiting while puppies are napping.
