Sunday Ramblings

Sunday Sam

February 3, 2013 by Darlene

river valley

The River Valley covered in snow.  There’s some beautiful walkways and such and it’s a wonderful place to take a walk when it’s not too cold.

Happy Sunday everyone!  What are all of you up to this weekend?  Well this should come as no surprise but it’s snowing here again. Yup, more snow.  I can’t believe it already – this is the worst winter we’ve had in years and I’ve had enough.  Not that Mother Nature cares that I’ve had enough but I can still voice my frustration.  It has thankfully warmed up though – at one point last week we were at forty below with our windchill.  That’s already dangerous weather as you can’t even step outside if everything isn’t covered up so I’m glad that passed through.  Anyhow as usual Sam is loving the snow as you’ll see in a picture below.  I’ve got to remember to take a video with my phone when we go walking and he’s dragging his head and body through all the snowbanks for next week.  It’s hilarious.

As for reading I’m savoring Temple of a Thousand Faces by John Shors (be sure to enter my giveaway if you haven’t already).  I am loving it.  It’s a chunkster so it’s one of those perfect books that you can really sink into and enjoy for a while.  I’m also reading Shadow on the Crown by Patricia Bracewell and it’s really good as well.  One is a paper copy which I can only read in the daytime and one is a digital for nighttime reading.  The joys of getting older when you can’t see paper copies at night anymore.  lol.  So those reviews will be up at the end of the week and the beginning of the week will be devoted to a few book spotlights and giveaways so I hope you’ll pop in and check them all out.

Now on to Sam.  I got a few pictures of him although it’s like pulling teeth sometimes.  I beg him to turn around and he adamantly ignores me.  I got a few more under the covers because I can’t resist them – they are so cute.  Enjoy…

Sam and the shovels

Sometimes I like to do naughties up against these things but mommy gets a little excited when I do.  There shouldn’t be so many of them standing there tempting a puppy like me since they look a little like trees if you want my opinion.  Sometimes I like to chase them when one of my humans is pushing them along the sidewalk – that’s pretty fun too!

climbing snowbank

This is my favorite snowbank.  I come from my walk and hop right up on it.  Mommy says I’m going to roll myself right off the other side onto that sidewalk but I don’t think so…

sam peeking

I’m really tired but she insists on pointing that iPod of hers at me whenever I bury myself under my favorite blankie.  Oh well it must make her happy because she does a whole bunch of oooooooooohs and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahs when I do it so I guess it’s ok.

sam in bed

Ok, enough mommy.  It’s sleepy time for me.  I know I’m cute but I want to sleep already.  I love everyone on your blog too but two pictures is enough when it’s bedtime for puppies.

sam sticking out tongue

I didn’t want my picture taken and nor did I want to have the hair trimming that mommy had every intention of giving me.  What do I care if I can’t see out of my eyeballs anymore.  I know where my food is and my treats – that’s good enough for me so I stuck my tongue out at her.  She laughed – that wasn’t quite the effect I was looking for.

gorgeous sam

Bye everyone.  Have a good week.  Mommy and I send hugs to all of our bloggy buddies.

Isn’t he the sweetest!  I just love him so much and he’s such a cuddle bunny.  I’m very blessed to have him in my life.  I hope you all have a great Sunday with family, friends, or just relaxing and reading a good book which is exactly what I’m going to do.

Sunday Ramblings and Lots of Pictures!

November 25, 2012 by Darlene

This is how I intend to spend my day today.  How about everyone else?

Happy Sunday everyone!  Can you believe it’s almost December already – I can’t!  Has anyone started decorating for Christmas yet?  I hope to start today with a bit of house decorating and hopefully by the weekend the tree can go up.  One good thing is that I am almost done my Christmas shopping.  Yaaaaaaaaaaay!  I did take advantage of Black Friday deals online and got a lot done then.  Were any of you brave enough to actually venture out to the stores?

Well winter has most definitely arrived here in Canada and especially Alberta.  We got hit with a huge dump of snow not even a few weeks ago and it was a mess here as it had been really wet snow underneath which froze.  Our roads were horrible and truthfully I’m not sure they’re much better now.  To top it off it’s been pretty cold although it’s mostly the wind that’s been getting us.  I bundle up so much to take Sam for a walk that I’m surprised I can move at all.  LOL.  I took a whole bunch of pictures of the snow that day and then of Sam having a jolly good time in it.  He loves the winter and the snow!

Here is a picture of a tree in my backyard that we chopped down this year.  I had hoped to decorate it with garlands before it snowed but I wasn’t fast enough.  I may still try though!

You can see all the snow piled on it and it was still falling as you see in the picture.

Here are a few more out in the front yard where you can really see the amount of snow that fell…

I took this close up of the apple tree because I liked how it looked with all the snow stuck to it.

And then we’ve got Sam in the snow.  The pictures are dark because I had to wait until it stopped snowing to take my camera outside so they were later in the afternoon already when it was starting to get dark.

Yup, I’ve got a mug full of snow and I’ve been running around and jumping in snow banks so I really need a good stretch now.

Awwwww Mom, I don’t want to go in yet.  My face isn’t quite frozen enough yet.  Can’t I go in a few more snow banks?  Pleeeeeeeeeease!

As for the blog – yes it’s been a bit quiet lately.  After Dad’s surgery and all I just seemed to have lost my blogging mojo and it deosn’t seem to want to come back yet.  Dad is doing well but we’ll know more after his appointment in December as to what they may be doing with him next.  I’m hoping nothing too scary.  Anyhow I think with the stress and all I maybe needed a bit of a break.  Hopefully within the next few weeks I start to feel more like blogging again.

I also wanted to tell you about a blog hop I’ll be participating in come December.  It’s the 1st Annual Historical Holiday Blog Hop and it’ll be running from December 10-17 and it’s being hosted by one of my favorite bloggers and that’s Amy from Passages to the Past.  There will be lots of giveaways from bloggers and authors so be sure to pop by not only my blog, but also over to Passages to the Past to visit all the great blogs that will be participating.  If you’re interested in participating head over and check out the post on Amy’s blog.

Well that’s it for today.  I’m going to spend the day much like Sammy up at the top of the post except I’ll be reading and finishing up The Emperor’s Conspiracy by Michelle Diener.  I have a review up tomorrow and let’s just say I’m really enjoying it!  What are you all spending your day doing?

Sunday Ramblings with Sammy, of course!

September 30, 2012 by Darlene

Happy Sunday everyone!  Did you all have a good weekend?  We’ve been having some really nice Autumn weather and I’ve been enjoying it.  The coolness in the air seems to be getting sharper each day and our weather forecast is now heading downhill.  lol.  Sammy is taking advantage of the cooler days by doing this…

Awwwwwww mommy, now everyone is going to be teasing me about my chubby little belly…

He looks like quite the chubbums in this picture.  lol.  I had him at the vet and surprisingly he hasn’t gained any weight since he was there in the beginning of the year so lucky for him the word ‘diet’ wasn’t mentioned.  Everyone was laughing at him at the vet and couldn’t believe how nicely he was sitting.  He sits on my lap just like a young child would and he just looks around.  It’s adorable and I wish I had a picture.  I’ll try taking one with my phone next time.   I’ve been practicing some of Cesar Milan’s training techniques on Sam and I’m happy to report that they are actually working for me.  He is becoming much better behaved on his walks although we still have work to do on the barking at the front door.  I had thought I was taking a video for you all of him barking at a dog going by but no, being the bonehead I can be, I forgot to turn on the button for the video.  Other than that Sam spends his days playing as you can see…  you can also see that he owns a good chunk of the living room…

Mommy, you caught me trying to bury a sock.  Could you please mind your own business while I proceed to make sure you never find this sockie again.

In other news my Dad’s surgery for the pacemaker has been booked for October 12 so keep up those prayers please.  These next few weeks will be stressful waiting for the day to arrive as I already feel sick over it but I pray that after the surgery he will be on the road to being the man he used to be and therefore much happier – for all of us.  I really don’t have a lot booked for after next week on the blog so October will likely be a slow month as I have been kind of staying away from requests in case he was called in.

On another note has anyone else noticed that Network Blogs has gone crazy since they changed it on Facebook.  I’m not sure what’s up with it but my followers seem to be disappearing by the minute and it wasn’t until they changed it that it started happening.  I’m thinking of pulling it off the blog if it isn’t going to be working properly.  I’m also hearing rumors about Feedburner not being around anymore.  Can anyone enlighten me on that too?  What else can you use for people to subscribe to your blog – are there any other good places out there?

Well that’s all I have for you today.  I’m going to settle in and finish up my book, Days of Splendor, Days of Sorrow by Juliet Grey.  This is the second in a trilogy of her novels on Marie Antoinette and this one is fantastic as well.  Look for my review on Tuesday.  As for this week I hope to get some pictures of the leaves turning as I expect this week they will start changing color and I’ll post them for you next week.  Maybe some good ones of Sam too I hope providing he lets me.  He has even wizened up to the iPad and knows it takes pictures of him.  lol.

I hope you all have a great week and again, thank you for the prayers and good thoughts for my dad!  Love ya all!

Monday Ramblings…

September 24, 2012 by Darlene

Our sweet peas are holding on in this warm weather although they don’t really smell nice anymore.  They’re still pretty though!

Happy Monday everyone.  I hope you’re all enjoying what’s remaining of summer.  We sure are here as we’ve been having some beautiful weather for our end of summer enjoyment.  As anyone who has read for my blog for any length of time knows I do not like winter so I’m just hoping that this warm weather will hold out and the ‘s’ word (sssssh – snow – can’t say it too loud) will not even think about showing up until around December.  While I don’t love the fall I do like that it’s a bit cooler out especially for my walks with Sam except that now that he’s cooler when he’s walking he can keep going forever and I can’t.  He’s having his hair cut today so that it grows in some in case the weather changes quickly to cold.  Guaranteed he’s going to be some upset with me by the time he gets home.  I’ll get my camera out and take some pictures when I get him home.  Since Sammy just turned two and I saw that Jenners got herself another puppy I went back to reminisce and look at some old pics of Sammy when he was a baby and I wanted to share…

Wow, I can hardly believe he was ever this tiny!!!  He’s 28 lbs now!  Wasn’t he just the cutest!

And here’s my baby two years later.  Still gorgeous as ever.  Sorry for the bad quality of the pic.  I took it off my iPod and should have used my iPhone instead.

For those following along with my dad’s health I want to say thank you so much for your prayers.  I appreciate them so much.  He’s now waiting for a surgery date for a pacemaker.  As both his upper and lower parts of his heart don’t work properly the pacemaker will be attached by wires to both.  I’m really scared about it but I know it’s his only option and I’m more scared of him having a stroke.  I’ll keep everyone posted – he should be going in within the next month, but in the meantime I’d appreciate it if everyone could keep up the prayers. I’d also like to thank those of you who have stuck by my blog while I haven’t been visiting yours or blogging as much as usual.  I appreciate that as well.  I’ve met so many great people since I’ve started this blog four years ago and I’m honored to call many of you friends.  Love you guys!

Again, I’m late with book winners.  I hope to be able to get the blog back on its feet properly after all this with my dad is properly settled.  Until then it may be up in the air.  As a note I’m just sending in the book winners from the last draw – sorry.  Somehow I totally managed to forget about them.  Here are the newest ones…

Magic Gone Wild by Judi Fennell — Viki S

Spider Brains by Susan Wingate — Carol from Carol’s Notebook

The Twelve Rooms of the Nile by Enid Shomer — Lara

The Things I Do For You by Mary Carter — Steph from Steph the Bookworm

Sunday Update on Dad and Book Winners

August 26, 2012 by Darlene

Hi you guys!  Long time no see.  Mommy’s been too busy to take pictures but she got this one when I was begging to go outside.  How can you resist this face?  One thing for sure – mommy can’t!

Well it’s been a hectic week for me and for those following along with my posts we finally have my Dad back at home.  He’s pretty tired and likely will be until they can go ahead and put a pacemaker in for him.  Because of his past surgery in July they still have to wait for his heart to heal fully before they can go forward.  Last weekend he was having a very hard time breathing and it turned out that he had well over a liter of fluid and blood around his heart.  They drained that and he spent the week in the hospital.  He’ll be seeing his surgeon the first week of September so we should know more then.  I just want to see my dad feeling good again.  Seeing him in the hospital and this sick is pretty scary.  Again those of you who pray I’d appreciate any and all prayers sent up for him.

Other than that there hasn’t been much going on here.  Summer is coming to a close and things are starting to die off already.  We’re in for some hot days this week though so it’s still summer like out there and if not for those awful mosquitoes would probably still be quite enjoyable.  Poor little Sam was sick this past week too.  I think it was the stress of dad being gone and in the hospital and me in and out of the house to see him.  He’s a pretty sensitive puppy so things bother him really easily.  Hopefully things will settle a bit before Dad has to go back in again.

I’ve been doing some reading and listening to some audiobooks.  I hope to catch up on some reviews of them at some point.  It’s been much easier for me to concentrate on audiobooks than actual reading.  When they are well done they can sure take you away from things for a while.  I did finish The Montclair Sisters by Cathy Holton today though and it was fantastic.  I’ll be posting a review this week both on the blog here and on BookTrib.  I really enjoy her books and once again she didn’t disappoint me.  This week will be a slow week and that’s fine for me.  I’m spending most of my time keeping an eye on my dad anyway.

Now for some book winners – as usual I’m a bit behind.  Just as a note if you won a book last time I announced winners I haven’t had a chance to send those in yet and will do so this week.  My dad hadn’t been feeling well for about a week before he went in the hospital and I just didn’t have the chance.  Here’s the winners for the last few weeks…

A Girl Like You by Maria Geraci — Michelle James

The Making of Us by Lisa Jewell — Mary from Bookfan, Lisa G, and Tammy J

The Shadow Queen by Rebecca Dean — Patricia N and Kay G

Dance, Gladys, Dance by Cassie Stocks — Cassandra G and Leslie from Under My Apple Tree

The Sisters Montclair by Cathy Holton (very good book!) — jennygirl from Jenny Loves to Read and Carl

Big Sky Mountain by Linda Lael Miller — Ann H

India’s Summer by Therese — Bethie

House of Shadows by Rachel Neumeier — Suz Reads

That’s it for today.  I hope you all had a great weekend.  I’m sorry I haven’t been by anyone’s blogs but I hope to this week.  I feel so completely out of touch lately.  Anyhow, have a great week everybody!

Sunday Night Ramblings and Book Winners

July 8, 2012 by Darlene

Good evening everyone.  I hope you all had a great weekend!  It’s been quiet here as Sammy is sick and it’s so hot outside that nobody wants to move anyhow.  On a good note my dad came through his surgery good and is doing well so far.  We’re praying that this new-fangled surgery works because if it doesn’t back he goes for a pacemaker in both the upper and lower parts of his heart and we don’t want that at all!  Poor little Sammy isn’t too happy though – he has tummy troubles and I doubt this heat is helping.  It worries me sick when he doesn’t feel well though so I hope it passes soon.

This week will be busy with book reviews on the blog.  Thankfully the last couple of days I’ve really felt like reading so that helps.  Of course there isn’t much else to do when you’re sitting down in the basement all day with your puppy.  It’s really the only place he’s comfortable because it stays cooler down there and truthfully I don’t mind it either.  Because we have winter for so much of the year most people out here don’t have air conditioners but really we should because we can get some awfully hot weather in the summer.  The only bad thing is when we get hot weather like this we also get tornadoes so I hope that doesn’t happen.  On a  blogging note I sure hope to get to reading your blogs this week.  The last few weeks between worrying about dad and trying to get caught up so I could have posts ready for the week I didn’t pop by anyone’s blog.

Finally, I have some book winners for you tonight.  As a side note I just finally sent in the book winners from the last few weeks so if you haven’t seen your books arrive yet that’s why.  Sorry but I was sidetracked by everything else and quite simply forgot.

The Queen’s Vow by C.W. Gortner — Aimee

The Bird Saviors by William J. Cobb —Colleen Turner

The Concubine Saga by Lloyd Lofthouse — Hattie N.

The Last Romanov by Dora Levy Mossanen — Nise

The Secret Keeper by Sandra Byrd — Amanda

Ocean Beach by Wendy Wax — Mary W

Congrats to all the book winners and that’s it for this week.  I hope you all have a great week.  Take care everyone!
